This is awesome! A local coffee shop here in Sacramento use all her ceramics exclusively. I was just looking at her instagram/website last night. What a small world!
I'm a metal artist just getting into ceramics and this was exactly what I needed to see to get inspired. Part of the challenge of being an artist is to master the materials so you can create what you want.
2 things, First, i love videos like this, showing someone super passionate talking about their craft and giving new insights into things the average person might never really think about. And second, i love the community here in the Eater comments, cause I dont think ive seen comment sections on RU-vid this polite and engaged on any other channel this size also her smile when shes talking about all this is just everything, you can tell how much she loves and cares about it all
Its always so great to hear people talk about something they're passionate about. This was such a good video. So much thought and collaboration goes into it. Such great care to make sure the diner has a good experience 😄
Very beautiful craftsmanship. I love how patient and knowledgeable she is about her craft. When Erin kept saying Kim’s name my eyes got big lol Because I want to have my own line of dinnerware in the near future.
What an amazing journey with food and pottery , as a human race this beautiful person has brought to the modern time a new story of timeline in which food shall be served. Bravo 👏🏻
Beautiful plates👍🏻😊 it was enjoyable watching her making them. This is my first time seeing someone using snail caviar, I didn’t know it could be used that way😅
Actually it is not the air bubbles that result in explosions in killns, its the water trapped inside of those airbubbless so as long as ur clay air dries enough to get most of the water out it should be fine i guess...
Air bubbles don't cause explosions in the kiln. I regularly throw bowls with rolled rims that have a ring of air trapped in the rim. I've never had one explode. Water, though? Yeah, water in the clay will cause explosions every time.
@@gnarbeljo8980 poorly thrown dishes with probably non food safe glazes that are a pain to clean contradict your statement. Functionality of ware and food safety are the most important factors in this field.
That struck me as odd too as one wouldn't do that with a dirty plate, only one set out clean ie before (but these plates arent, they come with the montage of the course) . I'd have stamped the inside of the revealer cups for the caviar and tiny dishes.
For the ones who reads this just know this is only the beginning keep pushing, grinding, and fighting. Whatever it is in life you want to do to go after it life is to short. Life is a marathon not a sprint so go out there and live it up I hope all is well and goes well for you peace and one love.
As a professional and highly trained potter myself I don't get how she became so successful. She isn't a very good thrower (maybe she was just nervous because of the camera team), I wouldn't bet on the food safety of her glazes, cleaning these plates with this bubbly glaze must be a huge pain (no go in fine dining), in this clip she wasn't able to correctly describe what the different ingredients of glaze do.... I could go on forever to point out the things that appear extremely unprofessional to me..... But hey, good for her.
@@NativeAsElizabethWarren ceramic plates and bowls make up some of the most valuable and historical antiques in the world. there are many museums focusing specifically on ceramics... but go off clown.
@@ratwhocankickflip maybe ones that are actually beautiful. These are ugly as all get out, yet she talks about them like they’re fine art. They look like stuff I made in middle school for fun.
I LOVED watching you create your art. I feel exactly the same about creating, presenting and eating from beautiful ceramics. It takes dining to a very special level. Please, please do more videos!!!!!
I really dislike her pottery. It's ugly poorly thrown and the glazes come across as pretentious. More power to anyone doing their thing, just isn't mine.
