This is my part two of my UTK housing videos where I discuss housing windows, the housing portal, and my experience!!! Choosing housing can be stressful, so I want to make this process as easy as possible for incoming students.
Like I said in my video, my experience of choosing housing will not be the exact same as your experience, but hopefully this video will help give a better idea on what to expect!

This seems like a fun experience to have when going to university, but I'm going to one close by home so I don't think it would be necessary, also I haven't looking much into it to see if they offer housing lol. This video is very helpful for all the seniors getting ready to go off to college!

You apply for on campus housing through UTK’s housing portal!!! Current students in past years select housing in February; however, things could have changed. Hope this helps!!!

When you choose your exact room how can you tell whether the room is in a good spot? Like whether the window has a good view or if you're too close to the laundry room or bathroom.

Maggie Fontenot hi! Unfortunately, when I chose housing at least, you could not see a diagram of where each room was located. It’s just kind of a guessing game. You won’t know where your room is and what position the window is in until you get there from my past experience. Most laundry rooms are in a separate space from dorm rooms, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that!

Do you know when the freshman are going to be choosing their dorms this year and what the housing windows are going to look like.

Sydney Issa hi! When I made this video, I was assuming that May 1st was still the last day to make a deposit to enroll in the university as usual. Because of the corona virus, my understanding is the university backed dates to enroll until June meaning housing will most likely be chosen sometime in June. I don’t know anything about the housing windows at all for this year, but hopefully university housing should be giving you a housing window soon in an email!!!

how does the buyout process work? do we still have to choose a roommate for it despite wanting to be single?

Ashika Nadella I believe that buying out a room is a thing, but I do not know how that process works or how much it costs. I would contact housing as soon as possible to find out the information you need!!!

So if your roommate has an earlier time slot and they sign you up for a room do you need to do anything or do they automatically pull you in if you put in each other’s housing numbers

Leanne H last year we used a different housing software than this year, but yes. My roommate chose our room, and I didn’t have to do anything else. I would maybe verify that with housing though just to be sure!

So I know you can guarantee your roommate by their roommate number be is there a way to pick who your suitemates are?

Unfortunately no :( But most people really like their suite mates despite them being random! The only thing you share is a toilet and shower

Do they separate genders in that dorm? If so do they separate by floor or how does that work?

Cameron All the dorms at UTK are separated by gender. Girls and guys can live on the same floor, but they live on different sides of the dorm. It’s hard to explain, so feel free to watch my Magnolia Hall Tour to get a visual of what I am saying! :)

Hello! i'm an incoming freshman at UTK and this video was super helpful. My housing time slot is on 7/1. I really hope there are some nice rooms left. Also I have a question.... what do I need to bring for moving day? Is a bed provided? please let me know.

welcome to UTK!!! For moving day, just bring everything you want to have in your dorm room! The bed, a dresser, bed side table, and desk are provided pieces of furniture! In addition, your dorm room also comes with a mini fridge and microwave

Ashika Nadella housing windows are based off of when you signed your housing contract with the university!!

Ashika Nadella I’m not sure for this year because I heard that deciding to go to UTK has been pushed back to June 1st. I feel like last year the deadline was May 1st, which is typically college decision day, but I’m not 100% sure
