I was so confused about cranial and caudal ends. The way you rotated it and showed it, now I understand what those images in the books taken from different angles mean.

THE LEFT & RIGHT SIDES ARE LABELED WRONG!!! It really confused us in our embryology class. I didn't want everyone else confused too.

No they're correct, I think. It's based off the embryo's right and left, not the viewer's.

Al final de la segunda semana de desarrollo, se formó el disco embrionario bilaminar que consiste en hipoblasto y epiblasto. A lo largo de la tercera semana de desarrollo, este disco bilaminar se diferencia para establecer tres capas germinales primarias. (proceso conocido como gastrulación). Alrededor de los 15 días después de la fertilización, se forma una estructura engrosada a lo largo de la línea media en el epiblasto cerca del extremo caudal del disco embrionario bilaminar. Esto se llama la línea primitiva. En esta etapa, la línea primitiva de la formación define los ejes principales del cuerpo del embrión, incluidos los extremos craneales (hacia cabeza) y los extremos caudales (hacia la cola), así como los lados izquierdo y derecho del embrión. en el extremo craneal del disco embrionario, la línea primitiva se expande para crear un nodo primitivo, que contiene una depresión circular, conocida como fosa primitiva. esta depresión continúa a lo largo de la línea media del epiblasto, hacia el extremo caudal del linea formando un surco primitivo. Una vez formadas, las células del epiblasto migran hacia el interior hacia la línea, se desprenden del epiblasto y se deslizan debajo de él, hacia el interior del embrión. Este proceso se conoce como invaginación. estas primeras células para invaginar a través del surco primitivo invaden el hipoblasto, y desplazan a las células. las células hipoblastas finalmente se reemplazan completamente por una nueva capa de células proximales, que se conoce como el endodermo definitivo. Para el día 16, la mayoría de los hipoblastos han sido reemplazados. Las células restantes del epiblasto ahora se denominan ectodermo y forman la capa más externa y distal. algunas de las células epiblastas invaginadas permanecen en el espacio entre el ectodermo y el endodermo definitivo recién formado. estas células forman una capa germinal, conocida como el mesodermo. Una vez se formó el endodermo definitivo y el mesodermo. Una vez que se completa la formación del endodermo definitivo y el mesodermo, las células epiblastas ya no migran hacia la línea primitiva. A lo largo de la gastrulación, el ectodermo continúa formándose desde el cráneo hasta el extremo caudal del embrión, estableciendo tres capas germinales primarias distintas en todo el disco embrionario. El proceso de gastruación es finalmente completo.

I have a question. Since the primitive streak is formed at the dorsal side of the embryo, shouldn't left and right be switched?

Imagine a fully grown person lying on their back on a table. If you were standing at the foot of the table, looking up at their feet, their right side would be to your left and their left side would be to your right. This is convention used in the video, and it's pretty much the standard for cross sectional views in the horizontal plane.

I think you're wrong there. The blastocoel is indicates the ventral side of the embryo, and the person is thus lying on their ventral side. We're indeed standing at the foot of the table, and thus is the right side on your right and the left side on your left. Or am just mixing up everything? ;)

at the beginning you talk about primitive streak forming in caudal end and then you talk about this end as a cranial part of a body... why?

Thanks for reaching out, Kristian. In the video we’ve said that the primitive streak forms at the caudal end of the embryonic disc. Then the cranial end of the primitive streak expands to form the primitive node. The head of the embryo will form at the extremity of the embryonic disk near the primitive pit, which is surrounded by the primitive node. We hope this answers your question. The epiblast cells migrate inwards and detach from epiblast, then slip beneath into the interior embryo to form the definitive endoderm, hence the process should be referred as ingression rather than invagination indeed. Thank you for your query. The archenteron is a cavity surrounded by the endoderm, which later becomes the cavity of the digestive tract. As this video explains the gastrulation process of a human embryo, the archenteron would be present. Hope this answers your question.
