As a park ranger, the three minute mark got me, unfortunately many that I speak to before starting a trail are cocky, I’ve even had a woman get upset with me for asking what she brought with her for a certain hike. So many get injured, unfortunately some are fatalities as well. Even great hikers with all sorts of gear get injured and die. Being cocky in the outdoors is just backwards, shout out to the seals who said they knew more than a “tree guy” and had to be helo’d out.

I got my green grunt proof patch. Im so exited to have a friendly identification patch. It blends in pretty well with the current chinesium outfit I currently have. I hope that whoever ends up aiming at me with magnification is able to see my patches clearly and know what they mean.

Appreciate the work put into this, because while I was able to memorize the 9-line (why FiST & JTAC exists, we're the 4th graders in the military), but I have forgotten a whole lot in 30yrs of civilian life. Im gonna buy this series. Looks like a solid investment. I'd recommend Politics by Aristotle and The Prince by Machiavelli to understand other humans' behavior. To learn more about yourself and improve yourself, read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Really, it will help you lead others and rebuild a local, state, or national government. Remember, no matter what kind of government you are given, it is up to us to keep it or replace it - paraphrased from Ben Franklin. Hygiene and sanitation kills and disables more people worldwide than any weapon ever has. The common tasks of the US Infantryman is invaluable. Skills with a weapon are secondary. If you know how to hide, run, or conceal you can avoid a fight. The simplest injuries in modern society are survivable. In a dystopian world or conflict, they're deadly. A tooth infection will end your life just as quick as a bad laceration. The acronyms used in the military all have meaning. This is how your trained to remember the most important basic ideas and survival skills. There's a reason Delta Force hammers so hard on the basics. They're the skills that if perfected, will save your life and the life of your family. If you want to protect others, then you have to be really good at all skills not just shooting skills.

I understand the fact that failing to plan is planning to fail. The reason why we carry all that equipment just so that we are used to carrying it and operating it also seeing if it's a shtf scenario you'll probably have to leave your area so having a good idea of how to use a compass and other forms of navigation should always be something you should stay current on as a part of your situational awareness. 100% the gorilla fighter's guide to ham radio the Baofeng is a good bathroom reader it has great skills if you already know how to use the baofeng I'm also still after all these years a big fan of the old pre 90s or even 80s boy scout field books and handbooks they have great basic skills and I always harp on the basics because the basics are the biggest thing that you need most of the time when there has been a wilderness emergency what saved those people or would have saved those people really gets down to the bare bone basics and I will not have anything to do with Boy Scouts of America anymore but I sure do practice and use those skills just about daily. I use knot tying skills all the time I have a multi tool on me at all times and use it often I still to this day when I do burn piles use the woodstove or have a campfire have a one match rule and because I limit myself to 1 match I ensure that I do it right every time and it doesn't matter if that wood is wet dry snow-covered or there's wind I can get it going every time. I know it sounds like I'm using an excuse to pet myself on the back a little bit too hard but the point is that those basics can be mastered and can do a lot more than all the fancy field craft and Bush craft skills in the world and heck once you have The basics honestly mastered go ahead and move on to other stuff but don't stop practicing the basics
