There is really no resale on natural diamonds either. Unless you have a museum quality piece, no one will give anything for your diamond. Remember, Debeers jacked up the prices of natural diamonds. Thay are not rare either.

Natural diamonds are still a finite source. There is a resale value on them, just not as much as when you first bought it. Think of it like buying a brand new car. In a couple of years, it won't hold the same resale value on it because of wear and tear. Natural diamonds are the same way.

@@rbtheballer they aren't really a commodity as no two diamonds are the same, there are subtle differences that affect the price of each, compared to two 1oz gold coins, they are worth whatever gold is worth that day. Faceted diamonds are a luxury product that no-one needs but people want.

Yes, technically true. But lab grown diamonds are much harder than moissanites and don't break as easily as moissanites.

Is it actually possible for anyone to tell the difference between the lab grown and the natural diamond? How would a jeweller know if buying a second hand diamond if it’s natural or lab grown?
@ajewelerslife21
@ajewelerslife21 Год назад
So it’s not possible to tell with the naked eye or even under a microscope the way you would with a cubic zirconia vs a natural diamond. As jewelers we actually need fancy machines to tell us if it’s lab grown or natural.

So cubic zirconium is essentially plastic; while lab grown diamonds have the exact chemical makeup of a natural diamond and have the same brilliance and durability.

Nobody can tell them apart with the naked eye. We need fancy machines to tell us that they are lab grown. They are different on their molecular form.

If diamonds can be grown in a lab, why aren't they all vvs1 and D color? Can this not be controlled?

Unfortunately we can't control the way a diamond grows on a molecular level. It's like a plant. You can't control how tall it's going to get and how big the leaves are going to grow.

Lab diamonds are the price that Earth mined diamonds should have been sold for all along. There's literally no reason to choose an Earth mined diamond over a lab one. Especially when the only difference is the amount of money that's being deducted from your bank account to call it yours, or theirs. If your fiancé insists that you spend 10X the amount on a solid chunk of sparkly carbon over the exact same carat, cut, color, and clarity chunk of sparkly carbon........ Then ya might want to reconsider whether or not you'll be happy married to an idiot.
