The Pros and Cons of Samurai Cop 2 (Movie Nights) 

"It's a mess." sounds like they did a good job of making a sequel.

I saw this movie in a theater screening, with some members of the cast and the director in the audience, who did a Q&A afterwards. It was pretty sweet

All these years later, and I'm jealous of Matt Hannon's hair.

Say what you will about Tommy Wiseau, and I mean this: The man has this wild, intense screen presence. He can't keep his lines straight and he can barely speak, but he's always the one thing you want to look at on the screen.

"Tommy Wiseau barely has a grasp of English"? I think you meant to say "Tommy Wiseau barely has a grasp of human"

The movies fatal flaw in my eyes is that the phrase "You're tearing me apart, samurai" is never uttered by Tommy Wiseau's character.

HAHA! I once got knocked on my ass by a VERY drunk Robert Z'Dar when he came stumbling around a corner at a con. He was very nice and apologetic. He saw me the next day and gave me a signed Maniac Cop poster and a head shot to apologize. Rest in Peace

matt and mark are actually both solid actors. That being said, having watched the movie, i think Tommy Wiseau is the biggest reason to watch it.

FUN FACT : I met Bai ling while I was learning to speak Chinese. She was very sweet and talking to me in Mandarin Chinese and English. VERY VERY COOL. Great video.

With Kickstarter, they raised only 62,000 for the movie. That's not too much, so that's amazing how they had stars in the movie and everything. :) Looking at the IMDB, a several of the actresses are not "pornstar looking", but actually real pornstars. :D haha But hey, why not? If they are good looking and they can act. :)

This really could've gone in the wrong direction the way Hobgoblins 2 did (though that really didn't have a prayer in the first place). Hannon was great in his interview with Red Letter Media and he seemed psyched to do this.

This sounds much better than I expected. I honestly didn't have any hopes for this one (the original is a cinema masterpiece after all), but I might have to check this out now. Especially when it has so many returning cast members

I think you missed the big plot twist: Milena is Jennifer from the first film. It's not made clear like most things in the movie, but it also makes her a much more interesting character.

spoiler alert: Tommy Wiseau throws a huge "Lisa-left-me" tantrum from The Room when we are first introduced to his character in this movie. Except this time he had more props to destroy lol

I have to agree with you on Mark Frazer and give credit where credit is due. He is a very good comedic actor and probably quite a good actor overall. I also found him to be the best character, although totally underutilized , in Samurai Cop 2. He was also a big reason why the original was so funny and enjoyable. I always have to laugh at the scene where he, with a totally jolly expression on his face, kicks the downed villain in the parking lot fight scene. The random expressions used during the nurse dialogue are classic of course.

Saddest part for me was the soundtrack, I really missed the 80s stuff from the 1st movie.

The movie's look reminds me of the last, and worst Highlander sequel, Highlander: The Source. I can see what you mean about Samurai Cop 2 looking like it's from the early 2000s. The cons are outweighing the pros, but Joe Estevez is a big pro.

Tommy Wiseu may not be the greatest but he does have a genuine passion for what he is doing which is something that is missing from a lot of movies anymore.

Someone should inform Chris Stuckmann of this.

The "hyper-stylized" look you refer to is really the only thing that has turned me off to seeing it. It would have been cool if they filmed it on Super 8 film like how they did with Black Dynamite. They should have introduced Fujiyama with him revealing to Frank that he is indeed smarter than him, because he too was wearing a bullet-proof vest when Frank shot him. Also, they should have come up with a better title than "Deadly Vengeance". Should have been called "Samurai Cop 2: Keepin' It Warm'

Hold the phone! Screen capture at 15:09. The sword that lady is holding has the Arashikage hexagram. That's from G.I. Joe. They used a sword from a different movie that still has the branding from that movie. That is fantastic.

Samurai Cop was done on adult candy as the budget, the second one was adult candy and a bit of extra cash to hire ahem, adult performers. The robots and the explosions on the plane was extra weird. I agree, both seem to be different films.

Lupa, there is only one Chosen One and he is in Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Nice to see a sequel to Samurai Cop, but it is hard to make a sequel to any just so bad its good movie. Just does not quite work like it did when Jame Wynn and the Birdemic movies.

yeaaaa idk i personally would've gone with a "hostage " with bruce willis direction in terms of story structure and tone ,something a bit of noir with a the kitana gang adapting to the new decade becoming the criminal underbelly forcing the police to track down mark who would know more about the case only to discover that matt is already on it( supposedly dead) being revealed having a "your right about joe .... I'm not dead .."moment , more serious but have its funny moments like a jackie chan movie where its sprinkled in the fights and situations . hell maybe have like cap with thors hammer and finn with a lightsaber , have mark pick up a kitana as both struggle to take down the big baddie in a desperate attempt to save matt from being crushed ( shot , killed etc) idk just some ideas that popped in my head when it comes to a sequel for a movie like samurai cop .

My biggest fan moment was seeing Kristine DeBell was in it. Most of my viewing experience was mumbling "....what" over and over again

My biggest sadness, is when something comes along, like the first Samurai Cop, and naturally and unintentionally becomes a cult, unplanned, so-bad-it’s-good classic, only to squander and falter when given the opportunity to make a follow up. As you say in your video, it’s very hard to purposefully create something in the so bad it’s good genre. Only films that are made with genuine passion and good intentions can ascend to such a status. When such bad/good movies are born, they often stay frozen in a genre time bubble, languishing forevermore in a cult bubble, waiting to be rediscovered by future generations of fans, but mostly never get the opportunity to add to their cannon with sequels and offshoots. So for me, when classic gems like Samurai Cop are gifted the chance to make such a follow up, but don’t quite hit the same mark, it can be quite disappointing and frustrating, even more so when so many of the original players are able to participate. Another reason it’s a shame, is there might be less impetus and enthusiasm to attempt yet more entries, as funding for additional projects would probably be more difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they gave a second entry to the Samurai Cop universe a try, but it could’ve been so much more special

I watched this twice and I had problems following it but the intent to do it right was there. Still confusing. There are capable actors in this and it is worth it.

The digital blood bugged me too. I kept thinking maybe it was because for continuity sake and they didn't want a mess to deal with. I wouldn't mind if they did a third film some time in the near future though.

2:50 Oh god that theme. I just binged the Mega Dumbcast and that's the intro. So after almost 200 episodes it's just ingrained in my brain.

First let me say that I absolutely love the first one. Now, some stuff I wanna say about the sequel: I really didn't like the sets and colors of this movie, the tone was somewhat dark and wasn't as joyful as I would say with the sunny sets and bright colors in Samurai Cop 1. It was like a lot of the sets were on some futuristic space stations.

Mark Frazer is a great actor that never really got a chance to shine. He looks like an A-lister doing b-actors a favor to hang out with them!

i could be wrong, but i swear i've also seen the actor who plays fujiyama, in a couple godfrey ho movies (same haircut, mustache.etc that he had in first samurai cop), but knowing how godfrey ho made his films, he probably credited him under an alias (had to do lots of digging just to find out one actor in ho's movies is named eugene thomas, & was credited under a mandarin name lol)

Mel Novak was in Game of Death, it was made 6 years after Bruce Lee died. The director of Enter The Dragon took the footage Lee had shot, chopped it down and shot a movie around it using look a likes and using footage from other movies Lee had done

"What is going on at any point in this movie?" That was my exact reaction. I finished it thinking wow... I have absolutely no idea what that plot was. Why was anyone doing what they were doing? What were the character names of the off duty porn stars? What actually just happened? I don't remember anything, just a flurry of weird colors and occasionally awesome throwback bit parts. It is genuinely impossible for me to summarize the plot after one viewing.

I had to watch your review on the original Samurai Cop before watching your review on the sequel, which is shockingly rated 8.1 out of 10 stars on IMDB. Wait. ...Tommy Wiesau is in this? ...What parallel Earth have I woken up to? Also, with the goggles, I'm thinking he's trying to pull off a Dr. Insano performance. This movie has more plots than the entire Hobbit Trilogy.

Yay! New Movie Nights!

I once edited a friend's short story about that revolved around his trip to Timbuktu. It was 10 pages long and there were 14 characters. I was able to condense it down to 3 characters and the story flowed a lot better. There is no reason that these movies can't do the same thing.
