…so. Quality of games is low. Cost of consoles with incomplete features is high. And the expectation is to accept these degradations of standards as “the price of progress.” I miss my Wii and my Wii Fit Balance Board…at least I got decent returns from working out while gaming…
Despite Sony’s success with PS5. Their actions dont equate to a healthy company. They appear to be more of a company struggling to find growth and more profits. Example : Huge increases in PS+ cost, $5 increase on controllers, huge losses on Concord, and now the PS5 Pro. Which is a terrible value proposition. Lack of Original AAA single player experiences. Also the diskless Pro is a coal mine canary, they want nothing more than to squash all physical media, that way they control everything. Goodluck getting digital sales, with no options besides their store front. When these companies have reached max saturation these are the actions they take to increase profits as they can longer grow the consumers base. This is just the start, it will get worse I venture.
Absolutely. I actually think this is the beginning of the end for Sony and deservedly so. They have shown nothing but anti-consumer behaviour for decades now and have not positively advanced the gaming industry in any way since the PS2 era. Instead they have spearheaded the push for increasing graphical fidelity and realism in games which has ballooned cost and dev time to unsustainable levels, while not advancing actual gameplay or the way we game in the slightest. PlayStation more than any of the other players is symbolic of what is wrong with the AAA games industry right now.
That is actually quite true. Many think Sony is just being arrogant with the pricing but actually they can't afford to subsidise it like they usually do with consoles. Although PS5 gave them a lot more revenue than ever before their profit margins have been horrible due to Jim Ryan wasting tons of money trying to make PlayStation rich in live service games. Basically their expenses had an even bigger rise than their revenue. Buying Bungie and Firewalk and throwing millions in live service projects that brought nothing or got cancelled made their expenses rise to the sky. Jim Ryan was an absolute disaster for them. Xbox has similar issues by throwing so many billions to buy so many studios. So they are in such a bad place that they can't subsidize their new hardware release even a little because they can't afford their margins going any more down. So they ended throwing all the cost to the consumer and therefore the price is high. Actually their situation is so bad that they rose the price of normal PS5 in Japan just because they noticed Chinese buyers were buying them all to play Wukong. Sony actually acted like a scalper trying to sell their console more pricey when they notice they could just had them bought by well off Chinese people. They are so desperate for profit margins that they are even scalping their own system.
It's also not as big of a success as people think. PS5s are only outselling Xbox Series at a ratio of 2 to 1. It's actually lost its advantage from the previous generation where it was a 2.5 to 1 for PS4s vs XBOnes. So while it's "winning", it's actually doing worse than before. On top of that, their games are selling less copies, which is they they're continuing to lump PS4 and PS5 game sales together. Rumor has it that the software tie ratio for the PS5 and Xbox Series this generation is only around 4 when your average is closer to a 6, making it one of the worst performing consoles in the history of video games. By comparison, the Switch has a software tie ratio of 8.5, essentially taking Playstation's dominance this generation.
I feel that pcs have gotten better at that "middle" gaming. Steam has done great strides in that with the Deck and Steam OS. Nowadays consoles are x86 pcs with a unix like os stripped tailored for the games and the whole multimedia experience. The difference is becoming negligible. Up until the PS3 era, consoles had exotic config with stuff you had to program with the SDKs provided by the companies (or you built your own tools).
Hi Brian your description of the middle gamer describes me perfectly. Ive never owned a Gaming PC as I've always seen the Value in out of the box ease of use of consoles and I always prefer physical ownership of media. I've owned every PlayStation since the PS1 but not yet a ps5 as I was unsure whether to get that or a PC. The direction Sony has taken and the price for it offers diminishing returns for me. My next big gaming purchase will be a PC instead.
A lot of people crying jesus. The xbox 360 cost 399 at launch. If you readjust the inflation would be basically $650. Companies don't exist to make us happy. They focus in proffit and if you want a ps5 pro that's the spot they need to make a profit. Just stop crying lol if you can't afford don't get it
People are price sensitive on everything. In their mind there is a maximum amount that people are willing to pay for a particular product. The price of controllers have gone up with no real reason why the price hike happened. The optical drive is sold as an add on with no real reason as to why. Of course people aren't going to be happy about it. Doubling the storage on the SSD isn't something that will alleviate their anger since the PS4 mid generation refresh came with an increase of drive space. The PS4 Pro sold something like 13% of the total of PS4s and I expect the PS5 Pro to sell similarly. Personally I don't think it's a good deal but, I don't think it is something that people should be raging over weather positive or negative.
I don't need one. Don't even want one. Hardly have time to play games as is. Sitting on a ps4 pro customized with ssd right now. Better keep that, than selling for a meager 150 to 100 euros

Whats is your point here? A RTX 4090 has about 250% of the GPU-Speed of the Pro. The actual price performance advantage over PC is pretty tiny in my eyes almost non existent. That is the sad thing about this launch. Was way better at PS5-Launch, PC-GPUs were already expensive and PS5 was massively better than any 599€ PC - but we all know we could not benefit from that thanks to the scalpers.
@@derschnuff8819 I use a mac because it just works. 60 FPS 4k on most games, is probably worth the upgrade for me. Console gaming respects my time more than PC gaming. Not futzing with Windows is priceless. All of the consternation over price is relative is my point. 3x the price but only 2.5 the performance seems relevant.
I don’t care about physical games. I have not bought a physical game in over 10 years. I will still hold off on the PS5 pro and wait for the PS6. My regular PS5 is fine until then. I just hope the PS6 looks cooler, as I think the PS5 is the worst designed console ever. Here’s hoping 🤞.
Literally the only thing I'll still occasionally buy physically is select number of switch titles/ ports that come fully on the cartridge if possible. Games like TW3, KCD, RDR, etc.
Sorry Brian but I don't go with that adjusted for inflation crap. If something costs 400 bucks 20 years ago and something costs 400 currently it is still 400 bucks. That inflation crap is nothing but excuses.
“Hardcore gamer” is a label that gamers give themselves to make themselves validation in life! So the average person will game,have work hobbies..let’s say the gym or musical instrument. Hardcore gamers say nooo I’ve got none of that stuff,I sit on my arse all day and sweat and become really good at this game because I’m “Hardcore”(This is how they see themselves or validate one’s lack of movement) They are usually found in basements or bedrooms amongst dirt,wrappers and piss filled clothing because being “Hardcore”it’s no toilets 🚽 allowed! Also i have thousands of games but very few limited editions etc because my priority is to get more games than a limited super expensive edition. Why waste 250 on a limited edition when i could use that money to buy more than one game? I think that philosophy is more inline with a gamer than getting a limited edition because i care more about having games instead of just getting little statues and cool collectibles.

Also just because gamers play a lot does not mean they don't buy stuff. I for example don't collect just games but older console hardware too.

Is not just that. Saying that when we adjust for inflation they are not that pricey is a lie. Because this logic applies only if purchasing power adjusted with inflation. It doesn't. That is why people can't afford homes etc anymore. If inflation goes up 10% then the average paycheck only rises 2%. So purchasing power decreases by 8% etc. Therefore you can't say current systems are cheap due to inflation because purchasing power has decreased. Inflation makes people more poor it doesn't leave them unaffected. Because of that the older systems were easier to buy than the ones today. You can't adjust inflation prices and behave like inflation hasn't made people poorer and their salaries went the same percentage up us inflation when that didn't happen.
i remember when they had the 3D0 in try out box. When I showed my mother the price, she almost cursed me out for wanting it. I have started to switch to the pc now. Last summer, I bought an expensive pc for the first time. My last pc cost me about $700 from amazon. if the next consoles don't have a disc drive, I will not get them. I don't buy physical games anymore, but I don't want to get a console without physical media.

No you do not need "a high end PC". You can build a stronger PC for the same price as this "pro" thing. Lets look at the PS5. It has and 8 core CPU that is the same performance as an R5 3600 (6 core, September 30, 2019) CPU. I gave one of those away two weeks ago for free. The GPU is, "a RX 6700". No it is not. The PS5 GPU has the same core count as the RX 6700. But the core clock speed is 217 MHz lower than the RX 6700. For context: The RX 6750xt has a core clock 150 MHz faster than the RX than the RX 6700, with same core count. So the PS5 is nearly 1.5 tiers below an RX 6700. But it get worse! PS5 Memory speed is 1750 MHz, 14 Gbps effective. Memory speed of the RX 6700 is 2000 MHz, 16 Gbps effective. So now the PS5 is a solid 1.5 to 1.6 tiers below the RX 6700. But it does not stop there. Memory: PS5 has 16GB of memory that it shares with the CPU. So if the PS CPU needs 8GB and the GPU needs 9GB, see the issue? The RX 6700 has 10GB of dedicated VRAM that it shares with NOTHING. So you could build a PC with an R5 5600x, B450 motherboard, RX 6750xt, 8GB of DDR4 3200, 2TB NVMe, case & power supply for the same price and be faster than the PS5 pro. With no online service fees. The upgrade in CPU would give you roughly a 50% performance boost and the GPU would give a solid 20% over the PS5. Cerny said what 45 or 46% more performance for the pro? Sony just priced itself out of the market. PC part prices are low and bang for the buck is to be had.
I don't understand all these people complaining about the PS5 PRO cost. It's not for everyone. If you find it too expensive.... here is an idea, don't buy it! Get a PS5 instead. The way people re acting is as if the Pro is the only choice. A PS5 digital is $450 and a PS5 PRO is $250 more. It literally has $250 to $300 worth of upgrades. I remember when $1000 smartphones became a thing. EVERYONE was complaining about how ridiculous it was. Now it's the expected norm.
Pc gaming is, to me, an intimidating ballpark. But I am interested in some types of games that are more accessible on pc or only accessible on pc (and im not getting rid of my ps5) so making the big jump into the pc sphere just makes sense for me at this point. The ps5 pro is not interesting for me, I hate that it's going digital only, and I may as well pay the same or a bit more for equipment that will outlast the ps5 pro and maybe even the ps6 before I even feel like getting a new console lol. And especially because consoles are pushing for digital only libraries, why would I stay with console? I can get every console game on pc, I think, like if I'm gonna be forced into digital only, I will pick what platform will actually serve me best in way of just the amount of games available and what will be cheaper longterm anyway. I like physical media, but now that's going away apparently so I guess i will too. 🤷🏼♀️ but I'm just one person and this is my opinion on it as a pretty casual gamer.
These Pro consoles are for the most hardcore of players who do things like Stream. But if you don't, there's really no reason to pick one up. Nintendo learned real fast that making exclusive New 3DS games wasn't worth the time or money and Xbox too understands this with the two different models that already exist for the Series X/S. The PS5 Pro is going to be along the same lines
Consoles used to go down in price because silicon yields got cheaper to manufacture + and they cost reduced the components on the board I’m sorry Bro this is BS People buys consoles becase: 1. Consoles are cheap 2. A console should have everything on the box “specially a PrO console” 3. Where are the NEW exclusive games?
It's not the price, it's the VALUE. No disc drive, online mandatory fee, no stand, only one pad (not even the pro version). Sony, you ain't Apple. You are only offering a graphical upgrade. Not even a cpu one.
Im going to hold off and see what next gen looks and goes for. will keep and eye out on the rest of the spec for the ps5 pro. i am interested in what the HD space is, know the current ps5 with the disk is not even a full 500gb they said it be. I still looking forward to ps6 having a disk drive, that *crossing fingers* is backwards compatible. as for the price, i will wait and see how far they push it.
