Great video. I would argue though that MJ's confidence began on the practice floor. His confidence simply carried over to the game. Instead of copying Jordan's style, create your own confidence that fits you best. Truly love the video.

Thanks man! Yes, I totally agree. I always compared it to a skyscraper. There are certain engineering requirements to build something that tall, but the facade can be totally different on each one. Certain types of self-talk and body language are necessary - but they can have their own style, as you say. Thanks for watching. Sorry I just saw this.

@junglekutz5625

Exactly.....as confidence cannot be learned. It's the type of energy that comes from hard work, consistency and dedication to producing, learning and studying yourself/self! It's not a regimen that can be copied, pasted or taught. Watching someone and studying them for reasons that's meant to serve you or give you whatever swag, won't give you anything *real. You'll just be a carbon copy of whoever you're aiming to be like. Everything about Micheal Jordan or anyone for that matter is unique and is supported and grounded in an energy. Something that no one can ask for, buy or evolve into. As energy and all that it stands for usually aligns with who that person ***naturally is. The more I watch these MJ videos, I realize that most were way to focused on either trying to break him or figure hom out. Meanwhile he just got on the court and did him consistently.

Basketball Brain - Nice video, and I agree with many of your points. I also view Michael Jordan as one of the most confident players to ever play the game, but I wouldn't rank him #1, since I think that title easily belongs to Wilt Chamberlain. It's more difficult to put clips together in a similar fashion to display examples of Wilt Chamberlain's confidence on the basketball court due to their being less footage from when he played; there's not even a single video of his 100 point game in 1962 for instance. But from what everyone says about him and also from his own words and the way he carries himself you can easily see that Wilt Chamberlain is the most confident player to ever live. Wilt exuded confidence, and unlike Michael Jordan, it was always genuine confidence. Jordan used confidence as a weapon against other players when he wanted to dominate them psychologically, and would use friendship when that worked better like he did with Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing. Wilt Chamberlain didn't need to use mental tricks to dominate his opponents. The man used to average over 50 points a game and dominated NBA greats like Kareem Abduljabar, Magic Johnson and Bill Russell. As examples to prove my point, I would like to direct you to two clips below. The first clip is of Larry Brown talking about a pickup basketball game between Magic Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain. Magic Johnson had several NBA greats on his side whereas Wilt Chamberlain was playing with a squad of UCLA freshmen and he was long retired and 43 years old whereas Magic Johnson was a young NBA phenom at the time. Magic claimed that Wilt's block was goaltending and it was game point so Magic claimed the victory. Wilt challenged the goaltending call and Larry Brown agreed with him that it was a clean block. To prove his point though Wilt Chamberlain challenged Magic and his side to a rematch, going to 12 points, and told them ahead of time that they wouldn't make a single shot. He blocked every single shot during the next game and his side won. That is extreme confidence to tell a squad of NBA greats like Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Byron Scott, etc. that they won't score a single basket on you and to then prove your point by blocking all of their shots and winning the game 12-0 at the age of 43. The clip is below: /watch?v=PN0Q3KcKA_E The second clip below was shot during a 90s All-Star game where Clyde Drexler and Wilt Chamberlain are being interviewed on the sidelines while they watch Michael Jordan, a young Kobe Bryant, etc. play on the court. Wilt is asked by the reporter, Craig Sager, how many points he would score in the NBA of the 90s era and he says that with the softer rules regarding what constitutes a foul, etc. that he would average around 65 or 70 points. Keep in mind that during his prime years he was averaging over 50 points a game, so it's not an outrageous boast at all by him. Also, there's a funny moment in the clip when Wilt Chamberlain pretends like he's paying Clyde Drexler for giving him false praise. /watch?v=TCAtn0dPi8E Lastly, I will direct you to a video which shows clips of Wilt Chamberlain when he used to play while people who knew him talk about how great he was, including a moment when Arnold Schwarzenegger talks about how strong Wilt was; how he was able to lift him easily and how he lifted a ton of weight in the gym like it was nothing. /watch?v=iwvdsi6gLl8 Wilt Chamberlain was probably the most physically gifted specimen to ever play the game of basketball, which is one of the reasons why he was so confident. When your confidence is based on facts, like being stronger, and better than everyone else, it's much easier to display it on a consistent basis. In the video above, there's a clip in there which shows Wilt Chamberlain standing next to Muhammad Ali and they are comparing their hand sizes. Even though Muhammad Ali was 6'3" his hand looks like the hand of a child next to Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt had the largest set of hands in NBA history. Surprisingly, Jordan ranks at #2, but he had abnormally large hands for his height, which is one of the reasons why Phil Jackson gives the edge to Michael over Kobe; Kobe has much smaller hands whereas Michael had huge hands so he could manipulate the ball easily and trick players with his one handed pump fakes. foxsportsradio.iheart.com/articles/the-locker-room-486404/the-largest-hands-in-the-nba-12467252/ Jordan pump fake compilation: /watch?v=ltPYXdtBXnU (having huge hands enabled him to do this)

Great post! I have seen all those videos before (I'm a bit of a basketball nut). I'd love to do some posts on Wilt, but as you said, there isn't a lot of footage. Wilt was very confident (even with the ladies). And I see your point. My only disagreement is this: Confidence as a shooting guard and confidence as a guy who only has to dunk the ball is much different. When your job is to make shots from about 2 feet away, it's a lot easier to be confident than if you actually have to shoot the ball from midrange and three. You'll notice most guys who trash talk in the media don't typically have to score the ball. Either way, we can all go through our life with that much confidence in everything we do - after all, what other option do we have?

I understand your point of view, but research and clinical experience has shown us that you have to first believe it before you see it. If you wait to see it before you believe it, you might be waiting a long time. When you talk to yourself positively you are re-programming your mind - so right now is as good as any to begin! If you start to say it, you will start to feel better and play better. You must believe IN SPITE of how you might play at the beginning.

@ΝικοςΚαρακασης-β1υ
He does this when he puts it in but what does he do when he misses?
@basketballbrainnyc
@basketballbrainnyc 7 лет назад
When he misses he keeps the same rhythm its just more muted. If you imagine a volume dial on a stereo - as he makes shots, he starts to turn up the rhythm, the "bounce." But even if he's missing, he's still in that same rhythm it is just not as apparent or visible. Very rarely did you see MJ with bad body language. The only time I can think of was when he made his comeback and was knocked out by the Magic.
