Keyleth has been commonly and accurately described as 'reverse batman'. If you give her prep time, her intelligence and anxiety makes her overanalyze all the possible ways she could mess things up... but if you push her back against a wall and force her to make a snap decision in the moment, she'll generally pull out a response that's genuinely useful out of sheer instinct.

Comparing Keyleth to an indoors kitten is pretty ironically spot on. Great cosplay as well!

With regards to Keyleth and having to become Resilient by going through situations that force us to become resilient: Patrick Rothfuss was a guest on a few episodes and he wrote Keyleth a letter and gave her a gift from his character to hers. He played a Paladin turned Blacksmith and gave her a ring that was engraved with "I have passed through fire". He likens her mistakes and fumbles to a ring being beaten and twisted by a blacksmith until it is the thing it needs to be, and also reminds her that some seeds will not sprout until they too have passed through fire like a leader becoming wise and learned by experiencing mistakes and learning life's lessons the hard way.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Keyleth's shapeshifting as well. While there's the obvious D&D power levels and character arc stuff, her early forms are very small and not very useful in combat (compared to say a wolf which is the default example for initial transformations) and I wonder if you'd attribute it to her fight or flight instincts as she doesn't shift into the sabertooth tiger until she gets angry enough to really fight. Also, a full series analysis would be awesome, I hope you do more.

A key thing to know about Keyleth, is this; unlike the, "Mighty Nein Campaign", which people saw from beginning to end, by the time, "Vox Machina", started streaming, that campaign was already well on its way. Important moments, in the early goings of the campaign, are never seen. We never get a complete picture of Keyleth, because we do not know what happened to her, before the group began streaming.

I was a Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine Corps infantry battalion, trained & equipped. When shit hits the fan, all the plans evaporate. I was legit in the same situation as Keyleth in a war-time situation: absolutely petrified in the face of a duty I NEEDED to perform. To summon real courage in a combat situation is one of the most difficult things I have ever experienced. But I did it. These things *can* happen, if we just don't give up. The power of the phrase "stand up, move forward" should never be mocked.

Keyleth's whole journey really resonated with me. She has an amazing journey thats really grounded in her own insecurities that alot of people have. She is able to face them and become a great leader knowing her own flaws which is so important in a leadership position.

This is an absolutely fantastic look into Keyleth. She is one of my favourite characters from Critical Role first campaign. As someone that struggles with self confidence, I identify very much with both Keyleth and this reaction video!!

It's amazing to see Kiki's character growth because at the end of the show she willingly and without hesitation does a lot of brave and cool stuff whether its SPOILER (facing Sylas one on one, using all of her power to kill Sylas and taking the killing blow for Vex)

A friend of mine observed that Keyleth is the most powerful member of the group when she acts on instinct but, when she has a couple of seconds to think about it, she overthinks everytime and gets in her own way. Thanks for taking the time to look at Vox Machina!

I am so interested in seeing what you say for Percy and his journey and mental condition throughout the story. The whole dynamic with Percy and his desire for vengeance while being manipulated by the demon I think would be really cool to go over.

This video really helped me understand how and why I love Keyleth so much. She's so much like me that I really feel for her. It's been nice to see her get so much love since the show came out because for a long time many CR fans have been really mean about her and towards her player Marisha.

I really want a video on Vex & Vax. I really want to see how you tackle the sibling jealousy that Vex gets. You've kind of already done it with the Vi and Caitlyn, but this is a stronger bond between siblings and how they've only ever relied on themselves until now.

The nod at the end was also ketleth accepting her role so she could be gracious to her friend and let pike feel comfortable walking away because Keyleth cares more about others than herself. And in the same moment she was reaffirming that she needed to step up and fill that role so when pike does return she wont be disappointed or feel guilty about leaving.

OMG, I'm so happy you're doing TLOVM character dives! Looking forward to seeing more of that, especially Pike and her coming to terms with who she is, even if it clashes with some of her clerical dogma. Especially the moment of realization, when she faces her Goddess

Glad you're reviewing this show. It was a lot of fun. An interesting mix of characters and personalities. I got up one Saturday morning, gave the show a chance and was glad I did. So much so I did a marathon viewing of the whole season.

This is the first therapist reaction I've seen for LoVM! I really hope you decide to do more, I'd be hyped to see your thoughts on all the other characters.

What's interesting is, Keyleth is on a journey to complete a set of trials in order to become a leader of her people, her mother iirc went missing during these trials and wasn't seen from again, in Campaign 2, the party, unrelated to Vox Machina, encounter her mother on a random island and when they suggest getting a drink says "Oh no, we don't drink" which I'd say means you're pretty spot on abt the sheltered life thing

I haven't checked to see if you've done Percy yet, but that moment when he compliments Keyleth was just as important for him. Born into a ruling family, never given the chance to lead. It starts with one person looking up to you for help. And for the first time, he turns away from his weapons and offers support to a friend.

I love what they did with Keyleth in the show because truth be told: Marisha was not really doing good with Kiki in game terms due to the switch from Pathfinder to 5E D&D, she thought many of her spells did one thing and they worked in another way, which was frustrating for her and for the audience watching her struggle and wanting to see her shine, but what didn't work in the context of the game, when translated to the story made for an amazing character arc in a TV show, they "incompetent weapon of mass OPness" actually works for a story about growth and learning to overcome your weaknesses. Truly amazing!

Ooh, tackling Vox Machina now? I love it! And I'd love to watch your analysis of Percy from flashbacks to that final episode. I feel like there's so much there for you to dig into!

I don't know how much they will adapt or how much they could even get to adapt from the stream, but for Keyleth I feel like her character could be a fascinating rabbits hole to analyze by the end of her story. She goes through the bloody ringer in a lot of ways. Could also probably do a whole video essay just on The Goldfish Incident from an in-character point of view.

I never expected to see critical role related content on this channel. I love it!

(Very Mild Spoilers for the game, they may change it in the show) - - - - - - - Her sheltered upbringing may have something to do with her mother's disappearance. Her father is a great guy but obviously deeply affected by the loss of his wife, especially as her mother disappeared during her own arimente (the journey Keyleth is on), and he had to raise his only child alone while knowing that he may lose her at a young age too. I can imagine that this fear may have shaped Kiki's upbringing

I’m writing a novel about a “coward” who discovers his courage, and this has crystallized something for me. I just wrote for the first time in two days, and I love these lines: Main Character: “Why do you keep acting like you believe in me?” Love Interest: “Why do you keep inventing reasons to doubt yourself?”

I loved Keyleth so much in season 1. I will say that Percy though, is my favourite character, but I look forward to you covering each member of the cast. They are so well written and well performed by the voice actors (as per the original campaign and the show) that you can see so many little cues of depth, ripe for your big psychotherapist brain to explore. The scene when she uses the light spell properly isn't the only time she shows courage. She does so again against Lord Briarwood. She was absolutely terrified of him, and knew she wasn't powerful enough on her own. However, she still stood against him anyway, and got the Sun Tree to help her defeat him. She later shows even more courage when she willingly got in the way of Lady Briarwood's spell meant to kill Vex. She was willing to die in place of her friend. She started out her arc freezing in a stressful situation, and ended up acting in an instant without hesitation by the end.

i'm thrilled that you've decided to analyze tLoVM! i think this season did a fantastic job focusing on Keyleth, Pike, and ofc Percy but all of the characters are great~

Pike's comment ''You are their light now'' also comes from before the game was brought online for us to see. Pike was always the one with the cantrip spell Light that illuminated their descents to dark dungeons etc.

this is the beggining of her path to becoming the leader to her people. Shes still going to grow so much

I love this so much - Keyleth and Pike have been such a big part of me starting to figure my own stuff out. I came here for Encanto insights, I wasn't expecting Vox Machina too but that's amazing!

I loved your take on how she faces the dragon, but there is one issue. Since seeing that I have always taken her freezing as to also do with the dragon fear effect. This show is based on the actual gameplay and in the game Dragons have a built in fear effect that characters have to deal with.

I have really enjoyed your views on these beloved characters. You have great insight. And your cosplay is so much fun!

Great analysis. BTW. The reason Keyleth does not believe in herself is not because she was sheltered, but because she made some decisions before that led to horrible outcomes. One of her actions even accidentally killed a few children.

I've seen this comment many times and it's pretty accurate: Keyleth is the anti Batman. Give her time to think and she messes up or doubts herself. Force her to act and she becomes the most powerful member of Vox Machina.

Love your costume! I think it is brilliant to look into the characters in this show. Not only are they quite interesting and unique, but there is also a certain part of randomness to them (like all people to a small degree). The first thing you said about Keyleth is to interpret her as having lived a sheltered life. That may be right (haven't watched the campaign, so don't know her backstory), but also; she just has a very low constitution stat. To make a good backstory, one has to have it largely match with ones stats, so it is very interesting to see how they match :D

Not me crying over you analyzing a character that i like, nope. The only thing different between her and I is that I've been through trauma after trauma(I have cptsd) but I STILL freeze, and I STILL don't know how to structure a response around danger. So again and again the scene with the dragon feels the same for everything I've gone through. It's not until after the fact that I move and respond. When I saw this character for the first time, it made me think how much I resonate to her. She is me on the inside and seeing her get brave makes me think I can do the same. There's so much more to this. But yea Thanks for coming to my Ted talk haha

I love the character analysis for this show as it definitely shows really great character depth and arcs and doesn't shy away from raw emotion. I do wish Georgia would have addressed where Percy snapped at the group for letting the Briarwoods escape and Keyleth was stuttering because even though Percy's rage was directed at everyone in Vox Machina, Keyleth took all that anger and blame on herself which further shows her lack of self confidence and how low her self worth is. As someone who does the same thing when confronted with conflict, it was something that made me attach myself to Keyleth even more as a favorite character because I can relate to her so much and I felt so proud seeing her growth through the series.

I know that a lot of people really don't like Keyleth, but I love her so much! She is arguably my favorite character from Vox Machina as I can relate to her so much! I have a lot of natural talent and inner strength, but I also lived a very sheltered life and have many anxieties that fill with me self-doubt and fear that I struggle to let myself shine properly. I have been working on improving my confidence and overcoming my anxieties (one of the big reasons why I started playing Dungeons & Dragons was to help me overcome my social anxiety), but it's something I still struggle with. It's not something you can overcome in an instant. Quite often you have to learn the same lesson multiple times before it finally sinks in and you can finally begin to feel confident. It takes a lot of courage to step out of your comfort zone and take risks that may seem insignificant to others but is major to you. Sometimes you'll have an anxiety attack even after you succeed in taking that risk because you're trying to grapple with the fact that you actually did it when you never imagined yourself able to do so before and will need some time to reoperate from the experience. I'm not at all trained in psychology or anything like that and can only speak from my own personal experiences, so don't look to me as some great insight on anxiety and such. I'm just sharing my thoughts on this and explaining why I relate so much to Keyleth. I see a lot of myself in her and it honestly makes me happy to see a character like her. It might be unpleasant to see someone who embodies things about yourself that you may hate and want to overcome, as I've heard is the reason why so many dislike her, but it's also that much more satisfying when you see that embodiment overcome struggles and prove that they are so much stronger than everyone thought them to be. It can give you so much hope that you can also overcome your fears and struggles and prove that you are more than what you believe yourself to be limited by or what others think of you. Characters like Keyleth inspire me because they remind me that I am so much stronger and braver than my mind believes in myself and push me to reach similar heights of greatness in my own ways. I may not be able to summon spheres of light that can destroy ghouls nor create shelters of indestructible vines to protect the ones I love, but I can fight back against my anxieties and face the things that scare me to do the right thing. I can defend others from bullies, spark joy in others with my art and stories, and help someone grow into a better version of themselves as a teacher and a friend. That's my magic power. And characters like Keyleth help remind me of that.

I absolutely love that you break down so many shows I’d never expect to see and characters that I wouldn’t think would get a video! It makes me so happy to see the things I love being analyzed with the same intensity that I do 😂😂 Critical Role makes me so happy and it’s hard for me to find people who like it as well in my real life. (Even online sometimes) so it’s always fun to see more people who share the same love for Critical Role.

So I found Georgia Dow randomly from a recommendation due to Vox Machina. This is the 5th video of hers I've now seen as halfway through this video I started saying "wait...why does all of this sound like me? Am I learning something new about myself?" lol. I knew I had self-esteem issues, so I guess this wouldn't be too different.

What i like about this show is that all the members of the group have their shining moments and they don't bicker about who's the leader or the boss....It is very difficult to create or portray a friendship like that with SO many people. I wonder why that doesn't work in real life (or at least I wasn't lucky enough to experience it). For me, Keyleth's moment with the ghouls and the light was much more impactful than the final see with the Suntree (although I love all her scenes)

I’m so happy you are doing these characters! Critical Role and D&D are a huge part of my life and Keyleth is one of my favorite characters. I think it would be interesting for you to look into Marisha, her voice actor and player because she related Keyleth and her growth with her own progression as an independent producer in a field dominated by men! I hope you look into more CR media, because there is SO much to discuss from a psychological perspective! If you do the twins that will be so interesting because there are a lot of codependency issues there due to growing up having only each other to rely on!
