I spent the day at camp making a Pump Drill with Willow Cordage. I used the Pump Drill in my first video RISE AGAIN so I thought I would make a video to show how I make one, completing it in about 8 hours.

Hi guys, I hope you enjoy watching the process of making this basic Pump Drill 🔥 NOTE : You don't need fire to make a pump drill as you don't have to boil the Willow cordage. You can just use the Willow straight off the branch and twist it up. You can choose to boil it in ash water (lye solution) to give the cordage greater longevity and flexibility. I choose to do this as it was a bushcraft project around camp and not a survival situation or a quick job. I made the pump drill and tested that it worked and will use it for starting future fire around camp 🌿 SPECIAL THANKS to Lalo Brickman (All Good Things) and Audiomachine (Remembrance) for letting me use there music for these scenes 💚

Thank you Connor, really appreciate the comment mate. Yes its been a long wait for this video but it only took me 2 months or so to make tbh :) Iv'e just been a bit busy. It's only my third ever video but i'm fully committed to channel now and i'm hoping for a big year with a lot of videos. Your bush craft skills are undeniable but you have an amazing eye and skill for the camera. Your opening scenes are David Attenborough documentary style. How you time each scene with the tune is an art. At 0.39, that fade past the tree 💯. Another amazing video. Would like and share everyday if I could.

That tree bit was very hard dude, it was my first time trying a masking technique and im using a GoPro , so it was very difficult to do and that was the best i could come up with :)

I've always thought the pump drill design could be used for not only making fire but also as a tool for boring holes . I'm very interested in attempting such a tool . Thanks for sharing

In the cold where your breath condenses in the cold air it's best to cover your mouth with a piece of cloth and blow on the amber because the moisture from your breath can put it out when ever your breath condenses and is mostly moisture. Or you can decide to wave your hand over the amber to direct air across the amber that way. Thanks for sharing your videos.

Awesome, thanks. Hope I can make one for my trip in a couple weeks. @23:16 hit the knife so the blade cuts into the stump, not side to side. Sincerely, a knife thrower.

Instant new subscriber Thx to randomly finding you. I am In a wheelchair & keen on bushcraft/Survival. I have found it pretty difficult (Near impossible) to use a bow Drill to any success, BUT, You, Sir are a Hidden Genius. Not only will a Pump Drill be easier to use as I can pump it one-handed (Tried & tested) BUT, I never thought of using Rocks to secure the Board. Up until now, I only seen people steady the board with their foot, which is useless to me as the only use for my feet is to stop my socks falling off LOL. Securing it with rocks is Perfect. ALSO, the idea of making wood shavings by sticking the knife in a stump is another genius idea. Thank you.

Many thanks for watching, very grateful! haha yes its a baby Spruce Tree and it got trampled on when the shelter got destroyed, so i wrapped the scuff in jute twinge and supported it up straight with a stick :) So you see me remove the Y stick and it stood straight on its own :))

I really like the video. especially that you planted a lot of willow saplings to replace the tree, you just cut down. One thing that came to my mind though. If you'd made the whole in the stone just a little bit wider, you could have slided the stick almost the whole way through and then it would stick by itself without the need of that tiny wedge you made. But other than that. its just a pleasure to watch you building all this stuff.

Glad you appreciated the Willow plantation.....was the right thing to do. If you secure the rock to the drill alone by pushing it all the way until its tight then the force of the rock spinning as your using the pumpdrill eats away the drill wood and it quickly becomes loose. By adding a oak wood wedge holds it even tighter and the counterweight does not move or eat away the drill wood as quick :)

Thank you man...appreciate it. It took about 3 hours for the first rock and about 4 hours for the 2nd rock :)
