What most people don't get is that this game was actually a tactical shooter where you have to get as many points as you can so you can get cool and useful upgrades that make you an even more effective killing machine in no time flat. Many people complained that the game is too easy to beat. Sure, if you go for survival. The main character being hard to kill is not only fitting, but the game is actually a lot of the times about not getting hit at all because that will zero down your points instead of them starting to multiply. Using human shields and not running through the whole level doing quick kills actually makes a lot of sense if you consider that scoring system, but me personally I try to do quick kills whenever I can because they are just so badass. The trick is to lure the enemy closer and not get hit, also give close to perfect headshots and don't mess up interrogations. If you are playing very effectively, you can get three times as many points as you need for a gold medal on the first few levels and then you can upgrade for the later levels where you really need that extra health, better aim, scopes and grenade launchers. Don't even get me started on the levels where the enemy keeps respawning and never run out of numbers. That's where you can really rack up your style points and make a real killing, excuse the pun. This is one of my favourite games ever, just cannot get tired of it.
You said it. Trying to end a level without being hit at all is maddening but worth the challenge. I did it in the Crackhouse (my points got to over 100k when only 30k was needed for the gold medal), the Zoo and the Gnucci State (not counting the fight with Bushwacker and the escape because it's impossible to get through these without being hit, no cover whatsoever).
When I was younger, I only played on easy, just to feel like a killing machine.. Also got stuck on The Russian's battle in the island And I tried my best many months ago to get a gold medal on all levels
