Nice to hear someone that knows what he is talking about. There are other racing RU-vid channels run by younger racing enthusiasts, but none better than Wolfden. I’m a bit older than Kingsley, I was betting big in the late 70’s and all through the 80’s. I had no trouble getting $2k on with Bill Waterhouse on the rails. Other bookies would restrict me to $500 or even $200. You had to do a lot of running around in those days because there were so many plungers. Today all the bookies put up the same prices, if you could call them bookies. I remember Harry Lobb giving you great value on roughies. Quite often when most had 50/1 , Harry would have 100/1. And he bet right up to 1000/1 in those days. For me going to the track was more than just getting the best price. It was about watching the horses parading to see what condition they were in, that’s where I got most of my great winners. So different these days, sadly.

I'd given up on punting the horses but Wolfden is giving me some hope of possible winning in future .Wish I'd had this 30 years ago .

watched the interview live and really enjoyed it, touched on the taxes and take out percentages which is obviously killing the punting side of the industry but didn't really address the root causes of why the product is becoming less and less attractive to punt, mega stables killing off the smaller and country trainer's, it is no different from Coles or Woolworth killing off the local butcher or green grocer....Sydney's leading trainer has stables at Rosehill, Warwick Farm, Flemington and the Gold Coast....really...you want to guess how many Maher has in work at his multiple stable locations ?duel acceptances, the amount of scratchings and the associated deduction system...Hong Kong racing addresses all the above issues, yes it is run with a "Iron fist " but they understand the punter is the Golden Goose of the industry....Australian racing is run with a limp wrist, a slave to the breeding industry leaders....way too much " tail wagging the dog " and self interest, and most importantly for us, choking the neck of the Golden Goose....my solution in a nutshell...trainer's train their horses in work from 1 address only, can only scratch with a Vet's certificate and of course a royal commission into the breeding industry....ouch

I'll believe weight doesn't matter anymore when the Formula 1 engineers stop spending a fortune trying to lose 200 grams from a Formula 1 car - weight does matter because the laws of physics say it always does.

All of my life(and that is a bloody long time) I have argued that Gambling should be taught in school, Gambling can be applied to almost everything that Life entails, it even helps you with school work, I always topped the class in maths, fractions/percentages etc, I was buying and selling Marbles in primary, I employed the best marble player in the school to win the marbles back for me, then I sold them again, almost every day I was selling the same kids the same marbles, all because I learned early where the "value" was....and I learned that from Gambling from the time I was about 9 or 10, I always felt sorry for the "smart kids" cos I always had their money and their Marbles!

talking about weights in racing, that is like discussing how long a piece of string is without knowing what piece of string we are talking about, you say Weights matter more in staying races than they do in sprints, you think it is the distance that matters most? Then Terry talked about giving Kingsley a bag of concrete to run a 100m or run a mile you will feel it more over the mile and that is true......but totally irrelevant, you are talking about Kingsley over both distances, Give Black Caviar 57 to carry over a sprint distance or carry over 2 miles, would it be the weight or the distance that would slow her down?, again it is irrelevant, Now Give Usain Bolt 20kg's of concrete to run a 100 metres, then give Abebe Bikila the same 20kg of concrete to carry over the same 100m, who would struggle the most or do you think given the same task that would be similarly affected? They were both great runners.....but built completely different Stayers and sprinters are chalk and cheese, Sprinters are more compact and more powerfully built(Like Usain Bolt) whereas Stayers stand over more ground, they are usually longer and leaner(like abebe) that is the "real reason weight affects Stayers more than sprinters, it is not JUST about distance......and then it all comes down to the individual horse, Horses carry the weight over their shoulder, stayers need lung capacity and not a strong shoulder(of course it's better if they do and the Top stayers usually do, but staying is about oxygen more than strength, Sprinting is all about strength, they need to hit the ground running, hence they are better weight carriers Now that is a very basic explanation, some sprinters can't handle weight and some can, just because a horse has 52kg's is not initself a reason to think it will run faster, it may be able to handle 60kg's just as easy, whereas some may be affected by extra weight, like put 5 kg's on a strong horse carrying 52 will not make any difference but put another 1KG on a horse carrying 57 may be the straw that broke the camels back......and the line is drawn at a different weight for every horse, you would have to know the horses physical makeup to be able to give a definitive answer Of course in theory it is better to have a weight advantage than a weight disadvantage.........but NOT if that means taking a significantly shorter price....as a weight advantage might not really exist, if the disadvantaged horse can handle the weight, weight is just one factor and it is the hardest factor of all to quantify

Can you still get the fraction when betting on course?

Doesn't matter how you cut it, gambling is wrecking the younger and current/older generations.
