How did he not get life in prison? the fact Max was able to move past this and continue a career in the Boxing industry makes him a stronger and better man than I would have been. RIP Sam Kellerman, guilty only of giving someone undeserving a second chance.
He accepted the plea deal for voluntary manslaughter and arson, which still confuses me to this day. Voluntary manslaughter, by definition, is saying that he intended to harm the victim, but not to kill. 30+ blows to the head with a hammer and burning down the apartment is NOT intending to kill someone? Butler's defense lawyer must've been top-tier because the only way I can see how they convinced the judge for a plea deal was to tell them that Butler and Sam were close friends and only did what he did because Butler was having issue with his girlfriend at the same time. And apparently that worked. Anyways, voluntary manslaughter in New York is 5-25 years, and arson depends on if it's a misdemeanor or felony when charged (misdemeanor = 1 year, class-A felony = 15 years to life, class-B = 5-25 years, class-C = 1-15 years, etc). So it sounds like he got the maximum for the voluntary manslaughter but probably 4 years for class-C felony arson, which adds up to 29 years. He'll be out in 2033 at the age of 61
I remember this story. Dude's named the "Harlem Hammer", then he kills someone by bashing their head in with a hammer. Talk about nicknames being destiny; a very messed up guy...
One of the most evil things one can do is betray someone trying to help you. It's why Judas Iscariot is one of the most reviled figures in history and what James Butler did to Sam Kellerman is certainly warrants his place in hell alongside him.
*Norm Macdonald's voice* Also, one of the most evil things you can do is hit somebody over the head 32 times with a hammer until they are .."immediately dead"
The world is so against God they literally a slave to be tech, phones and evil anti god goverment feeding us bad frequencies to corrupt us. The devil is the A.I
Really? How do you figure? Sam appears to be a good person victimized by a psychopath. What is heroic about this? Max has some shady history, I used to respect him, no more. I don't deny the talent, that doesn't make his family heroic.
@backagain5216 you disappoint me. I'm sure you're fine with that, but not with your lame racist comment that I doubt you even believe, it's that there are humans exist with nothing better to do but to get their adrenaline rush arguing with people online and saying foul nonsense they would never dare say in public. I hope you're really a better person than this, and that you will quit trying to light fires online. It's ridiculous, and who knows it could even backfire on you one day so just stop. You're no better than anybody else just as nobody else can claim to be inherently better than you.
I didn't know the details of this story, only that Max's brother was murdered years ago. Now knowing the story behind it makes it truly heartbreaking. Hard to watch, but a great video, well done.
Man, I love the storytelling skills of BLTV. The visual timeline was perfectly used in this one. He never comments back but I know somewhere he is reading our comments eating cheetos menacingly.
Butler only got 29 years for murdering someone with a hammer? Figured that would be a life sentence, but this was in Ny so not surprising he didnt get life.
Way too good, hopefully he keeps them coming and post more frequently, but there are other good channels out there. Rhythm Boxing and Joseph Vincent, you’ll love those videos. Let me know if you like them
You mean because Kellerman wrote a column in support of his brother's best friend without disclosing that relationship to his readers, thereby nullifying his credibility?
One of the darker sides of boxing. The interview where Max talks about it and clearly doesn’t want to is tough. Never see it brought up in general boxing chat. Covered properly, good job. Thoughts to the Kellerman’s
Woohoo! The best that ever did it back at it for the 3rd time in a couple weeks. Hope this trend continues, man. Your content is top notch and i get a lot of enjoyment from it.
It's still crazy to me that not many people know about Kellerman's brother. It pisses me off when people say that he's just a talking head in terms of boxing. The whole family's bread and butter is boxing.
The problem with Kellerman is that he has moved on to other sports where he knows nothing. He was right up there with Rob Parker in 2015, saying Brady was washed up, and the man went on to win 3 more Superbowls. He is just always wrong unless he is talking about boxing, so most people think he is a dickhead. They aren't wrong.
@@j.m.5744That’s literally it. He’s great in the boxing space, but floats over to other sports acting like he had the same base of knowledge & it always comes off poor
No one Rests in Peace unless they Realize they are Unrighteous Sinners headed Straight for Hell; then they must Place 100% of their Faith in the Biblical Lord Jesus Christ as Personal Saviour!!! And there is Absolutely No Evidence Whatsoever that Max Kellerman and his Dead Brother have done that!!!
Kellerman published a column in support of Butler without telling his readers that Butler and his brother were very close friends. That is beyond sleazy.
I remember watching that fight where Butler assaulted his opponent. knocked him out and broke his jaw. Total classless act. His defense was that he had 'blacked out' and didnt realize what he did. I said to myself that night, 'this guy is going to kill somebody one day...' sad, sad shame Kellerman lost his life.
Wow!! All of these years I've been watching and listening to Max on radio and TV, I had no idea that this transpired. I stumbled upon your channel and was pleasantly surprised about how your storytelling was so engaging. Subscribed
The James Butler vs Richard "the alien" Grant was televised on ESPN.. I watched that fight live, as back then I was training to be a boxer myself, and I watched almost every fight I could.. I remember it vividly
Max has my respect after this, I lost a sibling to violence over 30 years ago and not one day that passes that it doesnt cone into my thoughts. Also, still being so passionate about boxing after what happened to his brother.
Clicked on a cool looking video.... Heard the voice and was like oh shit this is boxing legends TV! Thought you were out the RU-vid game! So glad to have more of your videos to watch man, you always make great content! 🙏
Thanks sir 🙏 I uploaded a video I made about this case years ago but RU-vid deleted it. Yours is the best I've seen including mine! Good to see someone tell this dark boxing tale again!. 🥊
I actually saw the fight where Butler suckered Grant. I could not believe what I had seen. Butler was reverting back to a street thug when he did that. I had lost interest in boxing in part due to that and as well as the corrupt federations. I never knew that he murdered Kellermans brother. Excellent documentary.
I'm shocked that "voluntary manslaughter" was the charge, how the fuck is that not murder? You don't accidentally kill someone by hitting them in the head with a hammer 30+ times
This is honestly the best RU-vid channel I've ever subscribed too (not just boxing - Motivedia isnt bad but you're on another level) I've been a fan for years! Your videos feel like a Hollywood produced epic every single time, I got worried when you disappeared but having you upload even as little as you do is a blessing. Keep up the good work mate you're the GOAT!
I cant believe I never heard about this. I even heard that Max had a rap album before and clips of him on the public broadcast channel. Guess no one wants to talk about something so dark. Glad BLTV could shine some light on it in a respectful way.
Bro you’re the fkn man. Aside from the jaw dropping Kellerman brothers story I had no idea they had fights at freaking Essex county college in Newark until I saw Butlers record.
No idea how kellerman could be that smart and then also that stupid for allowing that animal to live with him. He should have know what he was and always would be.
Wow. What a story. I wasn't expecting all of that. To think that he wasn't found guilty of murder and he will one day be set free is disappointing . And prison for him is not justice because he will thrive in there. Sam was doing him a solid as a good friend and that's how the scumbag pays him off. Unbelievable.
Woow really good job on this . Never knew the back story of this what a crazy connection with this story. Never knew herl had a brother and watch him EVERY MORNING SMH
Do a deep piece on Tony Ayala, Jr. You might have difficulty getting his family, or anyone in the San Antonio boxing community, to speak about him. There's enough info out there to to piece together a reasonably accurate portrait of the troubled life of Tony Ayala, Jr.
I know about Butler's infamous sucker punch on Grant, but him murdering Sam is also sad. Because he had been sentenced for 29 years in 2004, by now, in 2023, he still has about 10 years left.
A violent murder with a hammer, setting fire to the building and wasn't man enough to admit anything. Yet he gets 29yrs is just as disgusting as the murder itself. Plus he will never serve that long.I can only hope he makes a real effort while in prison to change his life around before he's let loose in someone's community.
