You can't tire your dog out by walking no matter how many walks a day you take! The walks are for structure and not exercise anyway. Walks done properly are the MOST effective way to give your dogs what they need to feel secure and be happy!

No. If your dog is alone all day because the owner is at work, the purpose of the walk is the highlight of the dogs day. In this instance you let him sniff and get some stimulation. I am not saying structure is not important, it is very important. But let your dog have something pleasant in his day.

You are absolutely correct. I regret that I didn't mention it in this video. I do say it in many of my videos though. Your dogs need FREQUENT opportunities to sniff and pee on the walks, but it should be only where and when you tell them it's okay. In other words, the owner should choose the spots rather than the dog. That's the structure piece. Thanks for watching!

You probably shouldn't own a dog if it is just left alone all day tbh. The video was about establishing trust and pack order. For example never leave the food bowl out. Every feeding is another opportunity to show them that you are in charge. But of course you hope they enjoy their food.

he has an untrained dog that is disobeying him and do you see him give the dogs commands and the dog obeying them ?

Good point. This was not a demo video. I do have quite a few of those. I let Jack in these videos exactly for that unpredictable behavior. Plus, he's a looker.

Youre advice please How do you deal with leash reactive dog (towards dog) that walk wonderfully on structured walk but when he sees other dogs on walk start to fixate and lunging barking. If you correct with leash pup its make activation forward if you try to redirect with food the dog dont care. Thanks

@@Susweca5569 Watch Tom Davis or Larry Krohn they take the time to train the dog and build engagment instead of setting the dog up to fail and janking on the leash till the dog gives in.

"All aggression is fear-based"? That is a terrible generalization. I am working for over 20 years with dogs and had my fair share of leash reactivity and aggression. Some dogs simply like to fight like some humans like to fight MMA. There is zero fear in those dogs.
@JaimieScott
@JaimieScott 4 месяца назад
I can believe that and trust your experience. I still believe that those dogs started off fearful. Sounds like they evolved past the fear and got to a different place.

Apart from toilet breaks, I take mine twice a day (weather permitting), for about a 3 mile at his own pace sniffing walk through the local woods, to mentally tire him, followed by a 10 minute play of fetch, then a slow 10 minute walk back home for him to calm down

I can attest to this. He likes to walk. He does not get tired from the walk. He gets tired from the heat. He gets tired from the playing if his girlfriend's in her yard. He does not get tired from the walk. The walk is for MY exercise and he gets to come along and be mentally stimulated and oftentimes played with.

Best high drive dog exercise rig ever- freedom to gooo under excellent steering and dog control- the rider steers the dogs- no commands needed- the dogs ADD stability to the scooter- you don't crash with this design- on or off road- urban mushing perfected- even good for agro, deaf and blind dogs- d o g p o w e r e d s c o o t e r

I don't necessarily agree that all aggression is fear-based, but I may be caught in semantics, in the sense that I don't equate insecurity to fear. Nonetheless, I do agree with you saying that dogs need structure first and foremost. I'll mull over your other messages. Thank you for sharing.
@JaimieScott

An excellent point. There is a subtle difference between insecurity and fear. I may be painting with too broad of strokes with that claim.

All aggression is NOT fear based. Everything else you said is spot on
@JaimieScott
@JaimieScott 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for your comment. I'd love to know of an example you have in mind that proves your point. I did see a case of a dog that had a viral infection of the brain that was causing erratic and aggressive behavior, but I consider that an exception to the rule.
@k9psychologist

@@JaimieScott there is a myriad of reasons why a dog can be aggressive. Genetics, learned aggression, yes fear as well as dominance to name a few. Look into Ivan Balabanov, he's pretty good
@jaimiescott3536
@jaimiescott3536 5 месяцев назад
@@k9psychologist I may not be stating my position clearly, but this seems like just a semantic difference. I agree that there are many factors that can influence aggression in dogs. But I also stand by my claim that all aggression has a basis in fear. I guess I am saying that fear is always the underlying emotional component when a dog exhibits aggression. That can absolutely be influenced by genetics, conditioning, etc.
@dan_kay

I'd even say that most aggression is not fear based, no matter what the American Kennel Club is trying to promote. "Fear aggression" is simply low hanging fruit for dog trainers.
