When I was a kid I was watching an old movie with my parents, in which Quakers had their share of troubles. I said it must have been tough being a Quaker and my dad said, "Yeah, every day the same breakfast."

Just to note that "Quaker Oats" was a brand invented by Pepsi in order to convey trustworthiness. It has no connection with the Religious Society of Friends.

And there were still murderous both of the pirates and the quakers, which both had a war for a long time It's one of the reasons why the United States is not a Christian country. It's a secular country But now they want more republican freedom over the top of everybody else, so they can be hateful And that comes from the evangelism that started with quakerism It's when the reasons why religion is be stamped out the world completely

Even he himself was wrong about some things and admitted it. Broken treaties with the Algonquian Tribes because the Quakers were objectively far too Pacifistic of a people and did not defend their alliances against other settlers. He admitted it, he opened the flood gate for too many immigrants who did not share his ideals regarding the sovereignty of the Algonquian Tribes.
@JohnDove-d8d
@JohnDove-d8d Месяц назад
The Quakers' greatest crime against the Algonquian is not what they did, it's what they didn't do, they had treaties and defense agreements between the Quaker settlers and the Algonquians which were violated by non Quakers and the Quakers did nothing and were also plunged into obscurity due to the same events. Moral of the story: stand up for your friends, because someday it'll be you.

My entire maternal side of my maternal side were Quakers. Most came from England, Germany, and Wales. Settle in Hughesville, Gwynedd, Williamsport, Muncy. Many had to fight in the Revolutionary War which went completely against their beliefs. Their freedom was that important to them. I know for certain, one was William Hughes, friend of Penn. Not my direct lineage but obviously related to Jeptha Hughes who Hughesville is named after. William surveyed the city to what it is today. Hughes, Hill, Boone, Lee, Lincoln, all are intertwined in my family tree. All Quakers. Yes, that Boone, those Lincolns. A Hill was in Durham boat with General Washington on Dec 26 1777 to Valley Forge. Quakers were foundational to this country.
@LadyAngharadLlewelyn-Giovinco
My 10x great grandfather was Sir Thomas Lloyd who was a friend of Fox and Penn. There were a lot of Welsh people who were quakers.

Quaker Oats have nothing to do with the Quakers (Religious Society of Friends) The Oat company adopted the name because Quakers were and are known for there honesty and integrity among other things.

My dads mother's paternal side were Quakers for some time. William Thorne and his Son William Thorne Jr were some of the signers of the Flushing Remonstrance. Eventually one of their kin were disowned by the Society of Friends for their participation in the Revolutionary War. And in turn all future Thornes dropped the "e" from their names.

Quakerism attracted English who were extremely wealthy. Many of the most successful names in American commerce are Quaker: Folger, Woolworth, Macy, Penny. Not sure where the "despite Quaker modesty..." thing comes from but it shows up in a lot of these overviews. 'Despite Quaker modesty William Penn named the biggest chunk of America after himself...' They left out how William Penn got the land grant -- the Royals owed his rich dead father for a loan he had made to them so they gave William land that they didn't really own. Context would have helped this overview. Less dates and anecdotes; more story arc.

10:15 My 8th great grandfather, Samuel Edgerton was born in Norwich, CT. (My 9th great grandpa, Richard, fought at the battle at Fort Mystic, and at Fort Saybrook. ) Samuel married my 8th great grandma, Alice Ripley, who was the daughter of Major Joshua Ripley, a son of a Mayflower passenger, and Hannah Bradford, granddaughter of Mayflower Immigrant William Bradford. Samuel and Alice Edgerton would go on to own something like 300 acres in what became Franklin, CT. They were heavily prominent in the Quaker church. And they sheltered over 1,000 individuals in their home on the underground railroad. Samuel and Alice would give birth to my 7th great grandfather, also Samuel, who would move to Cazenovia, NY., to attend seminary and become a minister. My 7th great grandpa, Zebulon, was a private in the Revolutionary War. I LOVE history! ❤ 14:08 John Post and Hester Hyde, Mayflower passengers, were a set of my 10th great grandparents. I'm sure Amy is their descendent.

What made me curious about them is the quaking part, because when I was closest to God I used to shake by body and feeling fire, my eyes would open but I would not see this world. In many groups of worshippers I know that there are some people seeking God with all their hearts and soul, I am happy that they were nice to native and black because they are also in my bloodline.
