The entire city turns out to see her return. That's unbelievable...I mean that in a good way! In later years with air travel so common place, I guess her movements were met with much less fanfare. Sad that such an iconic figure is now gone.
Loved the piece, when Queen Elizabeth was inspecting the guard of honour, Princess Anne who would have been about 4 years old, knew the protocol, refused to hold hand with her grandmother and stood resolutely with her hands behind her back. Very independant and protocol savvy from such a young age. Princess Anne must be delighted with her great niece, young Princess Charlotte. Same gritty character. Love it.
@@marionarda2790 It was a different era and they were sailing by ship which meant it took longer to visit countries by ship than it does today to travel by air. Unfortunately she was a working mother who was the Head of State for a country and she had a job that she was obligated to perform. I am sure that Queen Elizabeth didn’t like leaving her children for long periods of time any more than any mother would. But that was her role that she had to perform. Think about how much criticism Catherine received four years ago when she didn’t perform many royal duties when while her children were young and she was not even the Queen.
Even if she waved and looked at the crowd still her motherly instinct was alerted when Charles & Anne bent down to look below. Quickly she did a side step towards Charles's back and chastised them. 5:55
It’s another feeling to have a young head of state. I think the queen was the last one. Given the life expectancy, we will probably have old monarchs. Only if they don’t abdicate earlier in favour of their children
To think that 68 years later (2022), Her Majesty would ride down that same mile for the last times in a much more sombre procession (although no less well attended)
It’s just unbelievable looking at these old Pathe newsreels which are as relevant now as they were then! QEII - We miss you so much, she had the most incredible life. I wish she were still here. She connected old with new and embraced both.
It truly is quite a shame that this period in our history is over. The might and the majesty. The great heroes of Britain, joined by our Queen, have made their last farewell and now we must contend with the slow deterioration of a once beloved institution. Her Majesty was the last true Sovereign. Rest well Ma’am. You will be missed
@@fritzhenning1stop being negative and overly critical just bc the queens children had divorces doesn’t make them bad people they still do service to our country plus it was camilla who spoke to Charles after she married dianna she couldn’t keep herself away and distance herself from Charlie I like to think that the queen mother the queen and Margaret represent good values young people think is just stuffy and old fashioned take a look in the mirror grow up and ask why have I become a selfish insensitive human being brat good day!
Kritique I'm glad my childhood came before all the tech! As we used our imaginations much more, had to learn math in our heads, appreciated the natural world more and most importantly we could remain innocent longer developing critical thinking skills before being bombarded with all of the ideas social media exposes one too!
@@oldfogey4679 yeah i mean my younger years Was how u describe up untill i was about 9, but then my parents got an i pad, and then i discovered youtube, and life hasn’t been the same since. 😂
@@VenusEvan_1885excuse me just because the house of Windsor has German blood doesn’t mean all English are German I may also add the queen mother was scottish so they’re also a Scottish family when princess Elizabeth and princess Margaret were born
They looked like a happy family. Philip was so tall, slender, and good looking. He's one of the few princes I've seen that actually looked like how you would imagine a prince to look.
I think you're referring to Queen Mary's daughter, the Princess Royal and Duchess of Harewood (as she was). Princess Anne, the present Princess Royal, has quite a look of her, but I do think the Queen looked very like Queen Mary. Family resemblances and all that.
Rarely, very rarely. As well as this huge official Welcome Home the Queen and Philip had, there was later the usual Welcome Home Lunch given by the Lord Mayor of London and Councillors, in the Guildhall. That tradition is no longer also. Shame.
@@margaretlavender9647, Much different times now. I still can't believe how The Prime Minister can now be Catholic, Boris Johnson shares his birthday with King James lst of England, The King who brought us The King James Bible of 1611, still so relevant today. At least Tony Blair owned the courtesy to convert to Catholisism after he stepped down. Times really have changed.
Any Numbskull can comment little mites of ignorance. Fleming and penicillin saved death of millions. Anyone offhand know where he is buried and waved him home every holiday?
what happened to the children that vanished ?? the police got involved they were never found.....but your position lived on.... no evidence was found oh what a surprise.. .. and I dont mean from this Australian trip.....
Her father, King George VI, died in February 1952, when she was in Africa, and she became Queen immediately. She was crowned in 1953. This Royal tour took place from November 1953 to May 1954.
