The Queensland Beach we didn't swim at 

These crocs do a good job keeping the beaches free of cans. bottles and other litter.

The captions say not to go in this area without a guide. This seems like the place where the guide gets eaten and you realize you're in your own low budget horror film.

I still get ptsd when I remember my stupidity on visiting a beach in Port Douglas. I went underneath the jetty to a secluded spot behind some rocks ( looking back now I know the area to the back of me was an estuary, which I hadn't notice, or just ignored) I decided to lay behind the rock and sunbath on my tummy with my feet to the water for about an hour. I was completely seduced by the heat and scenery and decided to go for a swim. I lay on my back and then swam about 3ft out splashing and covering myself with sea water like I was in a bloody private pool. Instantly it started raining and clouds appeared which I knew was a normal occurance in that part of Australia. I had an eerie feeling though and decided to get out. As I walked back along the beach I noticed all the signs that I honestly hadn't noticed before, even though they were everywhere. I was blinded by the beauty of that place and know how lucky I had been. In the local bar later that day, a chap told me about a young Swedish girl that had done the same as me and went for a swim near the jetty and a Croc took her. Still gives me shivers today at how stupid, yet lucky I was.

Even without those signs I would still refrain from entering those bodies of water. I live in Florida, USA and I steer clear of swimming in the lakes and rivers here because of alligators. I love crocs and gators. They are beautiful and fascinating. At the same time I have a healthy fear of them, so I respect their territories. You're right, these animals are always blamed for human error.

Been there. Done that. Those salties are practically invisible. When you discover one right next to you, it's amazing how quick you move.

As a Local Never swim in a river mouth like this, in Fact just don't swim in any of the Beaches if you value your Life🐊

😁 I actually did swim at a beach like this, but on the sea side. A big tree fell over the sign and I never saw it. People nearby were shouting at me to get out 😱

If I got shipwrecked and washed up on this beach, I'd just go back to my nice shipwreck

And when you go to Queensland beaches make sure you go barefoot like this young lady. Enhances the sense of adventure.

I don't swim in any water further North than Rockhampton apart from swimming pools. Sharks, Crocodiles, Blue ringed octopus, Stone fish, Irukandji Jelly Fish, Sea snakes, Box Jellyfish, Stingrays

I’ve been to Straya Zoo twice, seen the croc demo both times, and that’s in perfectly clear water with a pale bottom. Imagine murky with a darker bottom, you’re seein Nothin till too late.

People don't ignore the signs. They hang their towels on them.

As someone who lives here up north, I can tell you one thing: you never hang by the river mouth. That’s where the crocs are. They’re very rarely on the actual beach itself, but of course they’re by the river banks/mouth. We all know to stay away from those areas. I wasn’t surprised to see this

If you go up a bit further from Cape Trib to Lakefield (drive to Laura and take the road heading straight north) you'll find tons of crocs, salties and freshies, along the Normanby river and in all the billabongs around. Camped there for some days back in 2002, getting water from the creek to wash (not to drink) was an exciting adventure. Tried to get further north all the way up with my car, but broke both front bumpers on the track ("development road"). Took me two days of very slow driving to get back to Laura and another two rummaging through the local scrapyards to find bumpers for a 1984 Mazda station wagon... Glorious days when I used not to worry too much about taking a risk. You need a bit of luck to survive your youth sometimes.

Was there years ago, no crocs in sight. Magnificent tropical paradise beaches with small sea shells of intricate patterning.

There's no forgetting these are salt water crocs even though they spend most of their time in brackish water. River estuaries are their ideal location as is the case here in the Daintree River region. Because they are salties they are quite capable of swimming offshore so that they can move up and down the Queensland coast to find a suitable inlet to mark out their territory. Their travelling distance is limited by temperature although there has been the odd "sighting" of a croc in the south east of the state. As a local I would advise that if you are visiting the the Cairns area it's wise to remember that the Northern Beaches whilst appearing to be safe can be dangerous, particularly if you decide to go for that night time stroll along the water's edge or feel like you might want to go wading. The netted areas are there for a reason and not just to give swimmers some protection from stingers. Same thing with the warning signs. Ignore them and you risk your life. Otherwise it's a great part of Australia for tourists to visit.

When I lived in Cairns, Australia, we used to go to a place that took quite awhile to get to, but was worth the travel. It was called "The Rocks" and it one of the most awesome places I've seen. Big pools of cool water and lots of trees to get on a branch and dive in! While on the drive there, we saw huge red kangaroos grazing the grassy land we passed! It was heaven on earth, for sure, and a great swim if you're not afraid of cold water! I highly recommend it if it is still there. And NO CROCs!

Lesson learned from this... the only thing you should swim in when visiting Australia is a pool.😃

Not sure why RU-vid recommended this to me...but that spot really reminds me of the show 'Rex Hunt Fishing Adventure's', which I used to watch as a kid.

Watching this makes me want to play Far Cry 3 again 😢

If you have to cross a shallow river or inlet in far north Queensland, always do it in groups of three people and carry a sharp knife in your boot - that way, if you see a croc, you can slash the person next to you, push them toward the croc and run for it - the second person is for if the croc doesn't take the first bait ... it's a cruel world.

Of course you can wander there without a guide. It's the creek right next to Myall Beach (southern end) and countless of people wander there every day, myself included. Just don't go to the waters edge and you'll be fine! Took dozens of pics of the two crocs living in this river in 2017 and 2019. It's probably one of the best and easily reachable spots to spot a croc without a guide / boat tour in the Daintree.

I come from Sweden. I live in Austria. I would never walk in the Alps without a guide. I read about folks that have fallen off cliffs on a daily basis. A guide is the key. I would like to visit Australia and see some crocs. But from what I have learned, never without a guide. I have also seen very many personal short movies about these crocs, so I would "automatically" stay away from water if I am in Queensland. Lesson learned. I have brought some friends to Sweden too, and that is a safe country, right? Yeah, walk out in a bog, get stuck and drown. Or just check those bushes out and fall into an old mine shaft. Get a guide or at least a local to tell you of the dangers.

This is at myall Creek. There is a 5 metre croc living there now. We see him everytime we go there.

Great spot, just down the beach from the campground right? I fished the spot at 00:18 a few years ago, saw the croc that you guys have most likely caught on film, apparently it’s been hanging around there for awhile. Loved Cape Trib, favourite spot in Aus.

Haha as soon as I saw the still for the video, I knew it was a croc territory. You get good at that pretty quick when you live in the area :)

You get within 6 feet of the waters edge, what's left of you would be fish food for a gold fish bowl.

I wouldn’t walk around there with anything less than a sawed off 12 gauge….. Sawed off to lessen the chance of the barrel getting blocked by vegetation before I became part of the dinner menu… That snake at the beginning was spectacular! Beautiful location….

North of Sunshine Coast, don't swim on ANY Queensland beaches and be very wary. There's snakes (most are killers), sea-snakes (killers), jellyfish (killers) spiders that will kill and of course the crocs that come inland up tiny creeks (as little as 20 cm water).

Two of my mates went missing while fishing on the Nile......crocs was recorded as cause of death.

I swam at the beach of Cape Tribulation in 1986 as a kid. Our family jumped out of the tour bus, The guide said don't go in the water so we headed straight for the beach and walked about 50 meters out in opaque water that was quite shallow. The guide was pretty shitty at us when we came in. Good times hahahahah

River mouth and mangrove is never a good spot for swimming but for fishing ,yess

Looks like Myall Creek. The big one is called Trevor. He is probably a tad under 4m now. Would be crazy to go into the water or stand near it long enough.

Imagine what it would've been like exploring these lands in the 1700s like a pirate.

Crocs seem like nice guys, always ready with a smile. You want to come up to them and say hi mate how you doing.

In 1997 I went on a Daintree river boat ride. The guide pointed out a crocodile in the water, and a large python curled round a tree as we went by. Amazing place.

I just got back from a trip to Costa Rica and there were crocodile tracks all over a beach we went to! There's a river mouth that empties into the ocean there, and the tracks were going out from the river all the way down the sand on the beach into the ocean, and then right back into the river! It was super cool, but also a little scary! Don't underestimate Mother Nature and her creatures!!

Any tropical countries that have many river mouths, the sea have salt water crocs. Places like Borneo, Australia and Papua, the croc are likely same species and more aggressive than other places, some croc trail behind tiny shrimp fishermen on coastal area but never attack. They are even smarter by going under Gill nets if the area have lots of long nets.

Such a beautiful secluded place lovely beach & waters so inviting to anyone who wonders here. Glad signs are there imagine going for a swim only to be frighten by a predator that will eat you! No way not coming here without a guide ! Best to book myself into a spa at the hotel much safer but costly so worth it 🙄

At age 11 my sisters dad brought me n my mother swimming at a similar beach in cairns with same signs and no one around. Really feel like he was trying haha cuz he couldn’t do it either on surfers paradise beach when he got me to get wiped out by wave that be good 12-16ft. This video made me think hahaha

Those warning signs were common when I visited Queensland. On ocean was jellyfish warnings!

Was doing the Cape Trib to Cooktown track (sadly closed now until parts are rebuilt), was crossing a creek with warning signs about crocs and came across a group of Frenchies just wading in the creek, pointed out the croc about 40m up the creek… the excuse? “I thought they were only in “Saltwater”… I should have just kept driving and cleansed the gene pool of the stupid. The Forest was the wiseman, “Stupid is as Stupid Dies”.

I was half expecting Gilligan to wander down from the beach, looking for the Skipper.....

In the 1970s it was a common rule of thumb that you dont swim north of Mackay unless in a Motel pool. Crocs are not the only reason, as stingers can be prevalent.

I've bin to Oz a few times. Last time stayed in Townsville and went up the coast to both Magnetic Island and Cairns. Steer well clear of those crocs they are nasty critters.
