@@joe_gore Well that’s certainly good news indeed but I understand that you hurt your hand at some point or your wrist? How did that occur if you don’t mind me asking? (… And are you going to TOUR?)
@@joe_gore P H E W!! I’ll try and keep this long story short: As you probably know there comes a time when you go beyond open chords & the Nextep are Barré Chords but I never was able to do them -I guess my index finger on my left hand was just too weak or sensitive or built too damn differently and it just couldn’t work as much as I tried Then one drunken night in a graveyard (don’t ask!) I fell down and broke my left index finger The hospital misset the bone & left it crooked (sorry about all this gory detail!) HOWEVER ever since then I can play Barré Chords with the best of them! 😉👍 I’m so glad you’re able to play so well still
@@joe_gore I guess that's just me, but classical guitar pieces like this one, or for example Tarrega's Lagrima, to me almost always sound better on clean single coil neck pickups. It gives them a "watery" or "flowing" quality that I find very pleasing.
Thrilled to see another Musiclander; why aren't there more of these? I made mine with a swamp ash butterscotch body and reverse Tele headstock. And with the passive bass control you made me aware of, Joe. Thanks again for that!
Very kind of you, pipotherium! Funny - that guitar has been in its case for over a year. (I’ve been focusing a lot on acoustic playing.) But now I want to get it back out!
Damn that rig sounds great all across the board! One would think you had stuffed about 6 effects pedals into that guitar. I can't properly express how much I appreciate your videos and your willingness to share your inventions and innovations. Thank you!
Cool build, capable of just about anything. Love the Starcaster headstock. P-90’s have that thang that all PAF’s want to be. I’ve never played those staples but I’ve always like the tones in the Les Pauls they used them in. That is a guitarist guitar-I’ve too many worts.
@@joe_gore Indeed, despite the obvious disaster situation, I've got more time than ever to play and mess around with wirings/pedals. I just ordered parts for more 2 FiendMasters that I will gift to friends. I am very happy that the DIY Club page is still online, loads of useful information.
Seems like you could handle a full session with just this guitar! The design is really interesting, congrats! And allow me to say it again: your creativity is incredible!
Hey I rediscovered your channel recently and I wanted to say thank you so much for your content. You helped get me into guitar modding with your cool bass cut and treble cut mods. And your "cut bass to fix flub in your distortion" advice has really helped me make some cool tones. An example of my most modded guitar. Squire Jaguar Vintage Rails neck pickup Hot rails bridge pickup Top controls - bass cut, treble cut, bypass switch switch bank = 3 way mini switch for pickup selection, 3 way series / parallel / split 2 way phase switch Bottom controls - Volume, Internal bass-fuzz like fuzz effect activated by a push pull switch, battery under plate. Anyways thanks for inspiring me.
how did I not see this upload!! I have the alerts on! better late than never! I love that guitar, it’s everything I would ask in a warmoth build! in fact, I’m eyeing one of those bodies right now. incredible playing as always Joe, many well wishes!
If we're going to down the "Queso-caster" road, then I've got a "Perra-caster", "Pendejo-caster" and, my favorite, "Pinche-caster". The "Cabron-ita" was already taken by Fender (much mispronounced and much misunderstood). Feliz Navidad (Felix is not my dad)
Hey, happy holidays! Glad to see the wrist is in working condition again! Man this video makes me want a guitar with P90s so bad (I had a very nice Epi Casino but I sold it years ago because I always need the money). It's a great pleasure to see more of your videos. Take care!
Glad to see a new vid, hope You're fine and dandy during these times! The jam is, needless to say fantastic, very early cup a coffee ma-and-pa diner right before work vibe. Happy holidays!
Joe - I've been YT-stalking you, I guess. Your background is fascinating. But I never came across how you learned enough electronics to wire up your guitars and design all those fantastic pedals (new customer here). Is this a DYI path, or is there any formal training involved?
Hey Joe; cool as ever, love your playing style, tones and your "Cult" pedal. As I said before one day I hope to own and use one of your Cult pedals, things a little tight at the moment here in the UK.
Or you can cram Joe Gore funky wiring off into whatever Craigslist Special you're working on... Of COURSE I love the build process, no doubt I'll throw some instruments together eventually, and even consider store-bought parts. I'm more craftsman than tonesman...
As soon as those first notes played I was convinced you were playing over Forever Night Shade Mary. My mistake, but no mistake in feeling that both you and David Hidalgo have great ears for tone and playing!
@@joe_gore Joe, you're blowing my mind-it's all connecting in my brain now. I don't remember how I found your channel to begin with, but I remember instantly subscribing after I saw a video where you were playing over "Walking On A Wire." Your name was familiar to me from those times I splurged for a copy of Premier Guitar as a kid, but I never realized you were the same Joe Gore listed in the liner notes that I pored over back then. Realizing all that now, I simply can't thank you enough for the effect you've had on me as a musician over the years. I'm grateful for your voice and sensibilities.
Hey Joe! I have been checking out some of your onboard effects articles. I built a Mustang with the SD Jazz/Jb set, coil splitting and a phase switch, it's a pretty great guitar. I was thinking of upping the anti with a Mustang with: Jazz/JB Coil Splitting Phase Switch Variotone (that much I can pull off I think) But then Onboard effects: Fuzz Distortion Boost +?? Just wondering, is there a limit somehow on how many onboard effects a guitar can have? I can CNC out the back of the guitar so I don't think space would be an issue. Does each additional effect need its own 9v battery? I was wondering if I could run a lithium battery pack with a converter, I think that would not be too difficult. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!
It's kind of a bottomless pit, isn't it? But this project is far and away the most extreme: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KcY5rpRkHT0.htmlsi=P8rueJSCTb5njFE-
The neck has standard Fender dimensions. The frets are medium jumbo, like on most of my DIY guitars. But this was the first time I ordered a neck with stainless steel frets. Many players far more skilled than I swear by them, but I’ve never gotten comfortable with them. But that could just be me: an old guy who has played on conventional fret wire since the Pleistocene.
@@joe_gore it's a guitar made in the 80s with the same headstock as the arrow or swinger and a stratocaster style shape with some modifications. I wish I could post a picture of it here.
You mention certain body woods ( mahogany vs alder etc) create different tones but i’m not sure how this is scientifically possible. As you know electric guitar pickups work by magnetically picking up strings. Wood is not magnetic. How could the body material possibly contribute to the overall tone? The only way I can see this happening is if on a small scale the vibrating body vibrates the pickups in a way that allows them to “hear” different parts of the vibrating string. I don’t get how the type of wood, etc could effect the sound yet people swear by it. Just wondering if you ever thought about this. Love the channel. Keep up the good work!
@@joe_gore If you say it makes a difference then I believe it! The idea that tone woods serves the overall sound makes things more fun. Do you have any idea how it could work? I’m waiting to hear a sound explanation on how non magnetic body material transfers to the pickups. This may be a good topic for a video! I was talking to my dad about this in the car the other day and he said this paradoxical problem occurred to him in the 70s. So this has been a mystery to guitarists for decades. I’m now wondering if even hard-mounting pickups to the body is a waste of time. Luthiers and guitarists swear by “tone wood” but I wonder if it’s all snake oil. I’ll check out the video! Thanks for your response!
