I'm buying the sequel to this, it's called the blind deaf man apparently it's just a black screen with no sound.

The idea of playing a deaf person is not totally absurd, how about a Horror setting where you can only hear muffles and can't tell the different sounds apart or what kind of sound it was, should you run away or towards the noise, it could be friend or foe, that would be terrifying. This setting in The Quiet man is garbage and did little for the deaf game concept, I don't even think this game was for deaf gamers as the camera often obscures the lips of the talking people to show facial reactions see 1:28 in the video.

Next up, The Still Man. You play as Dennis, a quadriplegic left in a wheelie bin overnight. The player gets incredible control over Dennis's eyelids and eyeballs in order to fully scan the interior of the bin. Four different 'yells' are available 'help!', 'somebody help!', 'please somebody help!' and 'somebody help me please!'. Each yell can be upgraded via in game purchases increasing Dennis's chances of being heard and ultimately euthanized.

Another fine example of using super high fidelity high poly graphics that look like shit because the more realistic the graphics the more the unrealism stands out. The awkward animations, weird facial expressions, and the graphics don't run as well. A good artist doesn't need all these polys to make things looks great. Good Artists can create a beautiful stylized art style that looks great and animation will be better, game will run smoother, etc.

A much quieter response then i expected.

My god, that Fallout 76 line was a pure comedy gold. Never change Mack!

This game was a flawed concept from the beginning, even silent movies had music playing over them and theres a big reason for that, sound is a huge part of immersion in gaming and, film i really dont know what the dev were thinking, They have missed a fantastic opportunity, to make a concept like this work They could of actually pulled this off very easily, take the cut scenes for example all they had to do is switch prospective in first person from the person who's talking to the person who's death, by doing it cinematically, so you would see the world from the none death person who is talking so you get sound, and then switch the camera in first person to the death person so he's looking at the none death person who is talking and you dont get any sound, and keep panning between the different prospective, which would of made the cut scenes very trippy also if some ones signing to him you could do the same and when it comes to the death persons prospective, he could finish off the dialogue with his inner voice, so you would get the prospective from the none death person who is signing and the prospective of the death person who is reading the signs in his head which would also be very trippy also. Also as far as the game play is concerned they could of pulled this off by doing a similar thing, you could have a first person prospective of the death person with no sound and then switch the camera to a cinematic view with sound but make it so you can still control the character similar to a old cinematic horror game like silent hill, and have the camera in the cinematic view seem like he's being watched like a old hitchcock movie which would also make the game very trippy, and you could also tell the the story of his struggles through his prospective with his inner voice, so you listening to him think, this game could of been good :)

You guys hear of that new game coming out? Only 600 USD for the entry level game, 1200 for the platinum version. Comes with cuffs to strap you to your chair as you explore the intricacies of navigating the in game world while strapped to your chair. The platinum version allows you to get up and piss occasionally.

Apparently there will be a "new game plus" mode in the future so you can hear the dialogue.

As others have said about the game: It appears like an indie movie that couldn't get a release so Square Enix added some game bits to it and passed it off as a game. Worse part is if you beat it once it is just an advertisement for a patch (which should be out now) that will add in sound for a second play through. So if you do actually want to know what happened you have to play the game twice.

We should be crowdfunding for Mack's new bells, which he'll most indefinitely be requiring for the next fucking month.

I have an idea for a game where you play a blind character. Whole game will be just you staring at the black screen with nothing on it. Early access for 39.99, season pass for 59.99. Deluxe edition (where you can select staring also at the white screen, instead of black) for 79.99 I know it does sound like a like quick cash grab, but let me assure it is not. Lot of thinking was involved.

Mack this is what you call modern day innovation, the next game we may expect to play as a deaf and dumb blind man with a controller.but I shouldn't say that, as I may be giving these developers fresh ideas.:-)

Hey Mack. Nice review. Anyways, just read that the developers are going to release a New Game Plus mode in where you get to play the game with sound. The audio and words are enabled. Would like your opinion on this.

There is going to be a patch for the game that will add voice in the cinematics, but only after you beat the game ones!

Heard they're gonna do a *patch* where they reinsert all the original dialogue..? (Cos it'd be nice to actually know what's going on with the story/characters)

I have no issue in playing a game with no sound or music, as if from the perspective of a deaf person. If done correctly I think it would be quite a unique experience. But I'm gonna paraphrase Jim Sterling here and say that The Quiet Man has not done this correctly at all. You know why? You have no idea what is going on from the visuals either. Images are cut off or hidden, there is no context in the FMV. A game such as this should focus on such a thing as that is where the damn context is coming from. Take Beyond Eyes, a game where you play as a blind child. As you play, she uses enviromental elements to build what she believes what the surroundings look like. Via sound, via touch, and via trial and error she creates the picture in her mind and projects it to the player. She isn't always right; what she thought was a fountain could infact be a drainage outflow, but that is what is so charming about the game. The gameplay is nothing but a walking sim with a story, but it works so very well. I actually hate the fact that people are focusing on the sound thing. The game is shite. Its clunky, the animation is awful, the combat is just a single button spam, the acting is dire, you fight the same three guys over and over in repeating enviornments, and it offers this "gameplay" in short 2-3 minute chunks that is split by 15 minutes plus of FMV. Just because this game has no audio does not mean it cannot have a narrative, or good gameplay, or decent animation, or you know, fun.

i do believe theres a patch coming that adds sound. No, really. theres a teaser at the end for an upcoming sort of NG+ mode so you can play through a 2nd time with the dialog restored!

I'm currently developing an idea for a game where the protagonist is blind. Its an all black screen where you hear all kinds of sounds, and when you move around you bump into shit. But You'll never know what is around you. 60 bucks, 10 out of 10, Game of the Year, you just wait!!!!

Bethesda: Fallout 76 has no NPCs Square Enix: The Quiet Man has no sound (3 Years later) Bethesda: Fallout 82 centers around Vault 82, a vault filled with deaf-blind people, the game will have no NPCs, graphics or sound.

I'm guessing that Mack wasn't going to get a press copy anyway.

A game about a deaf person could be cool actually. You don't even have to focus gameplay elements on the person being deaf, but if you did you could have some cool gameplay things in there. Although did he just vault over that dude's head? The human body or physic don't work like that...

So it's not a video game adaptation of the 1952 John Wayne film?

SE saw the success of Helblade Senua's Sacrifice and thought the exact opposite would score. Hey, that game has a shit ton of voices so we should make a game that has zero voices...or any sound for that matter. Helblade addressed a mental health disorder within the context of a fun, engaging game while also having the disorder drive the narrative. Quiet Man isn't even close. The combat looks like old school Pit Fighter.

At the very least, no sound means a much lower file size! c:

I could be wrong but I heard somewhere that after you beat this game you can actually play through it again with sound to finally figure out what the hell is going on.

What's worse, It's the same developer studio that made Prey(2006) was also involved in this. Looks like they should have sold themselves to Bethesda instead.

If Arthur Morgan was deaf and RDR2 had no sounds it would been 11/10 for the hyper realism. I'm loving Fallout 76 personally despite all the problems but man I can't wait to watch Mack rip if to fucking shreds. This video was nowhere near as savage as I was expecting, I assume he's saving it for 76.

Their taking one out of EA book here in a month or so a dlc will come out. It will be called Sound for a Pound. I can see the summery now experience the story all over agin with sound making this feel like a new story all over again.
