Great to see this video! Let me know when you are ready to do the history video and ill be happy to help! One little note, Ron Allen was building the cans for Ops Inc and just continued making them under AE after ops folded. Ron is retiring and we have taken over production of them (including the ither models soon) so you should start to finally see these in stock in more places.
Been trying to visit your page with no luck. I've been looking for an AEM5 for my centurion MK12 clone for 3 years. I would love to be one of your first customers!
@Brandon Glenn I'll have to look into the website issue... we don't sell direct though. There are a few dealers already stocking them. Thoroughbred Armament, modern warriors, Bauer Precision and more.
A history video would be awesome. Thanks for offering to help! I shot an original Ops Inc can more than 20 years ago and remember the phase cancellation concept being explained to me. Phil Seeberger was the originator of the design if I'm not mistaken
Mrgunsngear is an OG to the RU-vid gun channel sphere and this man needs more traction than he's gotten lately. He's active with his supporters and is a true to the core defender of the 2A. I just wanted to show my appreciation. Keep on doing what you do. This is probably in the top 3 best gun content creators on the internet.
Alot of times some of the best inventions come from people that specialize in a different field but make something revolutionary. They bring a different point of view and cane make something great...Eugene Stoner was not a rifle/ firearms designer. But brought his flying knowledge into the gun world and made it happen
You would be surprised how little has changed until very recently from the original "Maxim Silencers" of the 1920's that the NFA devastated because $200 for a silencer that cost a few dollars was absurd and unachievable for most people... 1920's Maxim silencers perform on par with many current market suppressors... Another market where the NFA REALLY crippled civilian market advancement and development... Same goes for machine gun development... Many times having your rifle threaded would cost more than a Maxim Silencer, although still affordable before the unreasonable taxation of $200 in the same era of the great depression... Can't wait till Gun Jesus releases his Suppressor history book through headstamp publishing, which has a large focus on Maxim's work... Those books are worth every penny, the content and full page color photography are incredible... Full of history, but with photography similar to the Vickers Guide series of books. Highly recommended 👍
I have done extensive low/no light testing with the AEM5. With Mk262 ammo there is not only zero muzzle flash but no port flash! Tests have been performed in all types of weather conditions ranging from -10° to 85° F
I've had this can for 3 years now and I would have to agree with everything you said. I love this can! If you're going to clone a MK12 0, 1 or H this is the can you've got to have. I was just running this on the Holland the other day and w/ 16" barrel it's almost the perfect setup. Thanks for the great video Mr. G&G 👍
@@ericbergfield6451 It's a MK12 mod H or Holland. It refers to a MK12 w/ PRI (Precision Reflex Inc) hand guard, 16"barrel and some sort of collapsible stock. I'd do a Google image search, it's a cool rifle from the GWOT days 😎👍
I have an AEM5 and it is fantastic. I also just got my stamp back for my Otter Creek OCM5, which I don’t have any rounds through yet. I can’t wait to shoot them side by side to see how they compare. Great video, Mike. Thanks!
I got the ottter. The AEM5 is a deeper bass like sound. The otter is quiet but has a tin like tone to it. It is a little sharper sound. Both are on par quiet. The otter is shorter and has titanium baffles. If I remember right the ops inc, and AEM, lest I forget the next company to make them to spec used stainless. I feel like the titanium has higher pitched harmonics.
Good thing you didn’t show the installation process… as complicated and complex as it is, we can’t have that kind of information falling into the wrong hands!!😱 Next thing you know, people will start changing lightbulbs on their own 💡
The volume behind the muzzle is something I'm surprised more designs don't incorporate. Also given the height of the sights on the AR I'm surprised you don't see large diameter cans to have more expansion room.
Great video! I totally agree that the AEM5 suppression ability is amazing. I've had mine on my Mk12 clone (High Caliber Sales upper) for about 5 years now and absolutely love it. Not all of them have the knurling. Mine does not. I have never had a problem gripping it to twist off, but I wish it had the knurling for the classic Ops Inc appearance.
It truly is a great suppressor. I bought one a few years ago for a PRI Mk.12, Mod.0. The shift in regards to point of aim/point of impact is very minimal when it’s removed and replaced.
Yes i want history on it and so on please, and thank you. I got so many screen shots of ur "other" vids from 300aac barrel to silencer mounts types, how the fun swiych works, ill shut up now but anything mechanical and metal is right up my wheelhouse! Thanks for everything mike!
When I was building my first AR, i was trying to track down the necessary parts to be correct. Some parts were expensive at the time and the suppressor wasn't being made at the time I believe (2012 time frame). I settled on a AAC M4-2000 suppressor with the flash hider. Back then, they were sold separately. I recently learned that the M4-2000 isn't being manufactured anymore. It would be nice to see a comparison between some 5.56mm suppressors that are/were used by military.
It does have a lot of gas blow back, but it's not that bad. I think the sun where it's at makes it look way worse...but it's not a can you want to do mag dumps with. LoL
556 is extremely high pressure, shooting large volumes of fire wears out cans fast unless they are very well built. a can that could last 10,000 rounds of 9mm would only last a few shots of 556
I will always be a sucker for Centurion MK12 MOD 1 SPR With NF 2.5-10×24 and AEM5. Small Arms History is my jam . That why I love Chris from SAS so much . So yes do the video bro.
Over The Barrel(OTB) suppressors provide a large expansion chamber and the baffles forward the muzzle device slow the gases down to a “safe” hearing level. It’s the same muffler principle that the MP5SD employs.
Designed in the highschool welding class. Followed into the Marines as armor. Pat. finalized while deployed. Individual retired as Marine sgtmgr in 2019.
Partial overbarrel, somewhat integral supressors are king. Moving the initial blast chamber behind and over the barrel is the best use of space. Esp if itll fit under the handguard. Systems like the MP5SD exemplify this best.
Only when attached to a rifle that isn't tuned for it. Mine takes a rapid full 30 mag dump from my MK12 clone to start making me feel any excess blowback. During a standard ROF for a DMR I feel nothing.
Very interesting, but I looked all over the Net for someone who sells them and the only place that was listed and actually carried them showed out of stock on every model Allen makes (AEM3 trhu AEM30). Collars out of stock too. And the price is not $669 anywhere... be nice to find a place that offers a kit with all parts or took backorders. The db average of 131 is incredible, but if this is unobtanium, what would be the next best thing in your opinion?
I have two of these. One for a really long time, and one right from right before Ron Allen sold the company. I've shopped for collars for new rifles every now and then and I have never - ever - seen them come as a complete kit. Part of that reason may be that there is more than one way to mount the collar to a barrel, and actually you don't even need a collar if you decide to mill a shoulder onto a heavier profile barrel. The AE30 (the .300 version) calls for the shoulder to be turned onto a barrel as the primary method for mounting.
We recently took over production since Ron is semi retiring. He is continuing to make the mounts while we make the cans. We went and learned the process from them so they are the same can, not a clone. Allen Engineering is still owned by Ron, we just make them under his brand.
I got my AEM5 about 3 years ago now and its an amazing silencer. I found an old-new Ops Inc A2 flash hider for my 12.5 AR so I can run the AEM5 on both my shorty and my home built MK-12 clone. Mr. Allen I believe has since retired and transferred manufacturing to a few of his employees to produce the AEM5 as well as the other models.
@@amota92 Remove the carbine handguards, barrel nut, and Delta ring assembly and replace it with a knurled 12" float tube with FSB pocket cut. Sleeved Ops Inc over the barrel, under the handguard. Looks like an MP5SD.
How does this suppressor work with gas piston rifles? Specifically the Robinson Arms XCR-L. The gas rod is a long stroke gas piston. The bolt carrier has machined contact points for a connection between the gas rod and bolt carrier. There is a gas adjustment valve showing a very small gas port. A total of four gas settings for non-suppressor use. A total of five settings are available. With #4 being the largest hole and #1 hole for the smallest non-suppressor setting. There is an "S" marking for suppressor use. Are there any issues when using gas piston systems with suppressors?
Just got my SOCOM RC2 approved today after about 9 months. WOOT As bad as I wanna use it, think I'm gonna wait until I get a bore alignment rod to double check centering. I wanted to put the RC2 on my Tavor but Surefire said they do not recommend that as the Tavor does not have a shoulder like an AR and uses a jam nut for the muzzle device. Ugh. Hopefully I can use an adapter for my Liberty Cosmic and appropriate muzzle device for it, on my Tavor. Would rather not shell out almost a thousand for another can just for that.
@@2coolperson Holy feces bruh that looks EXACTLY like what I'd need to use the Surefire. Ordered one up, and I got a bore alignment rod in today actually. Dude I love you 😘😘 Have to wait on the Tavor for a bit longer but gonna run the can on my shorty AR this weekend, nuts will be busted bois
You're welcome bud! Took me a while to find something that fixed that exact problem for me. Still haven't used it yet lol been looking at getting a low back pressure suppressor for my x95
@@2coolperson Yeah after getting the SOCOM RC2 I thought I should've maybe got the OSS (Huxwurx now I guess) can instead lol. I'll have to see how it goes. Good luck on the can!
Sound reduction is impressive, but judging by the amount of gas coming back through the ejection port, I’m guessing this can is buttoned up pretty tight on the inside. I’m a lefty, so I’m always cognizant of blowback through suppressors. I run adjustable gas blocks and flow through designs on my platforms. Have an OSS Helix, and a Rugged Razor (not mounted yet), and am looking at getting a TB Magnus with secondary retention so I can run full auto. All these cans have reduced back pressure an minimize ejection port blow back. That can is damn quiet though!
I’ve got an 18” SPR by Ballistic Advantage that uses an OPS 12 barrel. Eventually it will get a similar suppressor. Still waiting on my Sierra 5 to be released from NFA Jail. Have to do 1 at a time. Stamp collecting is too expensive and addictive to do more!!!! Lol 🤷♂️
You mentioned several times this is "one of" the quietest 5.56 suppressors. Can you give a list of the others that are just as quiet or better? Thanks.
Dawned on me while looking at the patent diagram that it’s utilising Nikola Tesla’s Valve design philosophy. A Tesla valve with a straight & unobstructed path. Genius
Charlie's Custom Clones for the Ops Inc #12 brake and collar parts for the appropriate barrel and Suppressors (when in stock!). Thoroughbred Armament Co for suppressor as well. They're out there.
VERY interesting how the suppressor goes back over the barrel. I had been wondering for a while why we don’t see that. Definitely to get the maximum dB reduction respective to the added length of the barrel. I’m very excited to see that, and may get one!
This was my very first suppressor for my MK12. Well, i have the original Ops Inc. model 12. Since I understand that ME is effectively a copy of Ops M12, i can confirm its one of the quitest ones i have had. I use it normally without any additional ear protection and i have not had any hearing issues or additional fatigue during shooting, but thats me. The only disadvantage i think this can has over the more modern designs is size and weight. Given that Mk12 is already quite heavy in mod 0/1, it adds up. Respect to serviceman who have used that setup daily in their duties.
Great suppressor, I meet Phil Seaberger at several Shot shows before he died. He knew what he was doing. Have one in 308 on a Remington 700, never a need for hearing protection.
I just took my AEM5 home Friday can’t wait to try it out just got to get some rockset in first. Mine got approved day 170 only 5 days after my Hybrid 46m was approved on day 217
9 months ago this was posted...I just got my aem5..and I have to say, ur rate of fire, hitting ur target, and without mirage affecting u...dood...10 shots n the target is wobblin
Allen gave the data package to a different company. They are making faithful reproductions. Mr. Allen also shared his info with Otter I was told. They made there own modern interpretation of it. The can being shorter and using titanium.
great vid, thanks! what a great design. when I am finally free to legally own a suppressor 🙄 I'll sure be looking out for a model that has a chamber that goes back over the barrel as far as possible like this one. it's a winning combination with the dual purpose brake/sacrificial baffle, genius! well, of course it has to perform well in sound reduction as well as durability. it's no wonder that this design does 😎
I got mine a couple months ago. Wayyyy quieter than my other ones..... I ordered straight from Allen Engineering. I was on the waiting list for almost 13 or 14 months.
The opening B-roll the blow back of gas 😬😬😬😬 If I ever get my current legal issues in order I plan on getting a HUXWRX flow thru, don't wanna breath all that crap.
The old XM21 flame arrester worked the same way, it was bigger but it was made for a 7.62x51 round. The way it worked best was to fire a round into the ground and cover the end with a piece of tape, this kept oxygen from getting back into it and no oxygen, less flame. It worked well enough that from 50-75 yards at night you couldn't see where the shooter was. Sionic made them and good luck finding one, CIA issued the rifles with a couple different ART scopes that worked well with M118 rounds they were designed for and again good luck finding one of those although they are easier to find than the Sionic suppressor, I imagine the CIA repurposed those and just kept them, but you can find the schematics for the arrestor in a google search even and the scopes are well documented, but since this was late 60's to mid 70's sort of a combo, hard to find either, same with finding a XM21 that is original, many of the ones you see out there are just pieced together and lack all the parts that made them a damn good rifle. While they were effective out to almost a thousand yards, they were fantastic from 300 to 500 yards for real world shooting.
Thats badass. Funny story: back in like 2010 I had a full auto suppressed/silenced m4 (i believe) rifle. Didnt know much about guns and still dont.😂 But i got it from a friend for like 200. He wanted some oxycontin. He just finished his first tour in Afghanistan like 3 weeks prior so i wasnt judging.😂 He said he was gonna buy it back. But never did. Craziest part looking back was he gave it to me in a home depot parking lot, he parked a lil ways away and just strolled across the lot holding it , magazines and a plastic walmart bag of loose ammo. I wasnt too bright in my early 20s. Also this was in Maryland so not really a normal sight. It ended up sitting in the trunk of this old 3 series i had in the driveway for months until i sold it to another buddy for a good bit of profit. He was a saw gunner in the army. He sent me vids of it ripping cause i never shot it. Sorry for the essay but I just had a flashback after getting this recommendation.
There's no replacement for displacement.. Volume matters. If you truly want a quiet can err on the side of volume. Bigger and longer is almost always quieter snd cooler running..
