In this video I demonstrate twist drill "4-facet" point grinding on my QUORN Universal Tool and Cutter Grinder. At the end of the video there is a "Bonus Feature" showing the steps in making the ball handles for my QUORN.

That last couple minutes of bonus material was neat also. I liked that ball clamp bushing.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the kind words. Those ball collets are a George H. Thomas design and they really work GREAT. Cheers, F.C.

You have probably seen it but there was a post in 2017 to the MEW forum called 'Bought a Quorn and have some questions' which produced an idea to maintain the setting of the centre line of the collet. I have done this mod and it works well and saves a lot of frustration when you have to move the collet back and forth without the table rotating off centre.

Hi Alan Wood, I confess that I have not seen that post. Could you reply with a link? I'm always interested in saving "a lot of frustration." Cheers, F.C. PS I just found the posting you mentioned. It's a very good solution to a very real problem on the QUORN. Thank you very much for giving me a heads-up.

@@FCleff Good morning F.C. I have written up my bracket and hopefully you can find it on my woody's workshop pages at altrish. If I put a link I think YT will block it.

Regarding starting this kit at 59, ask yourself "how old will I be in 10 years if I make this kit? How old will I be in 10 years if I don't make this kit?" As a bonus, you too will have "a lot of balls". ;) Cheers, F.C.

OK thanks for the update, I think I have grasped it better now. Your hand masks the camera while putting it in place and I thought it was fitted into the slot in the table. I have a site called woody's workshop where I will be posting my progress with the Mk1. Also on the comms front you should be able to put an email address in your YT account that appears on the About tab which might be useful. Looking at the 5A power socket in the background of the video I am guessing your might be in SA or a past or current Commonwealth country ?

I have just obtained a Mk1 Quorn which has been built to a very high standard and I am in the process of converting it to an ER25 collet holder and metric clamping arm tighteners to replace the balls levers. I am interested in the jig you made to align the drill bits and wonder if you could give more details ?
@FCleff

Hi Alan Wood, Congratulations on your recent acquisition. The ER25 collets and replacing the ball handles are, I think, good ideas. I'm happy to provide more "details" on my drill alignment gig but I'm wondering what kind of detail (theory of operation, fabrication sketches, more operational videos.....etc,) Please advise. Cheers, F.C.

@@FCleff I tried to give you a link to send me details to and YT blocked it. I would just like to see how you fastened using the magnets. Not sure how you can send it to me though.

@@alanwood3597 I agree, YT can be frustrating that way. The rare earth (Neo, I think) magnet is 0.070" thick by ~0.40" in diameter and has plenty of attractive force to firmly hold the jig to the underside of the QUORN's "tilting bracket". The magnet is located in a .437 dia. x 0.0750" deep (No deeper!) c'bore in the rectangular base or foot of the jig. Nothing other than the magnets force is required to hold it in place. The "foot" is made from a piece of 3/4"x 1/8" HRS ~3" long. Please feel free to ask if you need more info. cheers, F.C.
