The fact that the spanish decided to focus so hard on destroying french's art that they didn't actually build anything remotely close to it is just too funny

As someone with Lebanese heritage, Lebanon maintained a little flag for the duration of r/place from the very first hour. Located at (10, 452) which is also the country's area 10,452 km² I thought that was pretty neat.

honestly, props to everyone involved, even xqc, i honestly doubt place would've been as interesting without a main "villain".

all i remember is that the french flag was too big but when they agreed to leave the part of azbullah, spain and the americans continued to attack and ultimately destroy without ever building anything. the french defended their ground in addition to the pixel art of one pieces, OSU, reckfull, etc. which were incredible. it lacked irish but it was cool

saying France uses bots is literally the best compliment you can give, the organisation was so good that people unironically thought France was using bots lol. And yes, Reddit is kinda unknown in France not a lot of French uses it which can explain why so many new accounts were created hahaha i even made an account for this event, was really fun! so many good art was made by everyone it was amazing :D

personally xqc was a good villain and even when he claimed stuff it was taken back and more art was made on top of it, xqc has received so much hate when honestly he made r/place a lot more memorable.

R/place Where the French Revolution started again to push back the Spanish Inquisition.

It was interesting seeing my community of Hololive allying with Germany and Belgium, it was kinda bizzarre that a community of just anime weebs and simps got to ally 2 big countries, that also helped us survive and fight against one of the first XQC attacks, also how we all defende agaousn the big red among us dick that apeared on the canvas, it was somethig amazing those 4 days were super fun, and i hope it returns.

The Outer Wilds animated timeloop in there was honestly the coolest most creative thing in my opinion, definitely worth looking up if you're an Outer Wilds fan or just curious

Just to clarify: the French were NOT using bots. They were using an overlay to help people place the right color in the right pixel to help draw nicely.

Seeing the little hermit craft area become kermit craft, and stay that way because the community liked it just made me so happy

I can't believe how people still not understand how 1M pixels at your disposal doesn't mean you'r going to instantly win especially while you guys can actually go watch the streams of the french and see their POV ... I encourage people to search for themselves nowadays there are subtitles you can check the french streams to understand what happend.

Dude, I was defending the Indian flag and and artworks from 2 more communities. Denmark flag was right next to ours and people from our community straight up expanded the flag on it, deleting it. They went to the point of half-deleting Lego until some people from our comm with actual sense decided to back track the flag and help rebuild the denmark flag. It was a fun few days haha

Why dont you even mention the name of the French army ? Kameto gathered 350k ppl on his stream and organised a lots of communities to défend the french flag

Place is a very good way to simply create an interesting storyline about nothing it’s like the warriors every community has their own territory with their weird graffiti and friends just keeping shit pushing 😂😂

i mean i get it that it's "only pixels" but when you spend much effort and time to said pixel, i think it's reasonable for them to be mad about it when they get griefed.

I for one worked with the r/waifubartending subreddit to make sure Jill Valentine got her rightful well... place :P Also credit to all the other subs who, intead of warring with r/waifubartending just added their subs art to her wall. It was wholseome af Reddit needs to do this every year no lie.

If you look at the heat map and look to the top right ish you can see something that looks like a star. It's a part of ISL flag, it was under war constantly, was funny to watch. (Idc about politics, I just find it funny that in the end the fact people tried to destroy it made it glow so much in the heat map)

There were definitely bots on the side of the French as well as the others except the French streamers didn't use or encourage the use of bots, however they encouraged everyone to use the overlay template script while the Spanish streamers actually started using bots at some point, the French used their nationalism and big names on twitter called their community to join the battle, the battle was coordinated following the strategy of the four seasons which consists of attacks every 1m15s by people born in said season one season group at a time and that's how they were able to defend themselves

If you're part of the French community you'll know that it's huge. A lot of us don't have a reddit account indeed

French here, didn't participate at all in r/place. From what I've heard afterward from Kameto (French streamer leading the defence and the building) the script that was used by French was helping them building, look at the fuckin' Eiffel Tower that they tried to do at first and the arc de triumph they drew after. As for the people saying then why did France went white so fast at the end then, It's because both attacker and defender where placing white pixel, with the ongoing "war" of course it would go white fast. The only thing we learned, is that even though Spanish streamers wanted to go to war with us using the fact that they're the second most viewed language on Twitch to overwhelm us. In the end they still couldn't force us into defeat and thus went to beg for help. Furthermore, most of them were only there for the content, they said to kameto between some negotiation that he should thank them because they were the reason he got so much viewer on his stream at the time. Kameto said after the pixel war ended that he was disappointed in the Spanish streamers because they were focusing too much on the viewership instead of the experience that was r/place. What's important is that French people had fun and that’s what matters the most. And as the tradition goes, sorry for my bad English.

We, the osu! community, actually had a great time and a lot of fun. We had pretty good coordination and without any significant botting, we were able to defend ourselves (we also built our logo 40 minutes in). The devs of the team actually developed a nice overlay and in the end we split up the pixel on our logo for each person.

As much attention this year's event took, for me nothing can top the 2017 german invasion to austria and france. It literally recreated ww2.

I took part in a lesser known battle. You see I was part of the Boston Bruins community for place. After they got wiped out during Day 2 we made a new Bruins B with the new space that was given (This time with a yellow background) that neighbored with the lesbian flag and Okabe of Steins Gate and out of circumstance we formed a strong alliance. This culminated in a war against the TNOmod community and controversial streamer Quin69 who repeatedly tried to invade our territory and was acting like a man child the whole time. The power of Boston, lesbians, weebs, and friendship prevailed as we had fully bordered off potential invaders and had a clean image to be immortalized on the Atlas.

I'd like to confirm that Reddit is NOT common to French at all. Prolly 1% have an account TODAY (after the 3rd r/place) But the pixel war is mediatized here, so people onboard JUST for the pixel war and then leave

in the starting seconds when rplace was just made for april 1 2022 the whole canvas was filled with lines of germen flags which were attacking every pixel they saw at that moment i knew they were using bots but noone accused them of using it because they were invaded by every communtity on the canvas

And now r/place is back once again, filled with bots and flags.

French were using an overlay (just to know what color to use to participate in a drawing, but not doing anything for you) while there were clips of Spanish streamers using actual bots (a program that place the pixels directly for you every 5 minutes, checking the color and all), making it way more efficient than any human...

Hello! it was really fun. I'm French and i swear we weren't botting. I personally create an acount on reddit because we don't use it at all, or very little. So we were all new users and not bots. You should know that the French community of Twitch is very close, all the streamers know each other. We have other events that bring them together, and the communities are very porous. For example we have the main event called Zevent wich collected 10 millions euros withe the help of more then 40 differents french streamers (for an associations). Here i hope that the Americans and the Spaniards are not too disgusted and will come back in 5 years, in joy, good humor and without insults. Goodbye!

I was in Asmongold's stream, participating in a righteous, holy war against the Bronies. :P You would not believe the amount of people I now have telling me I "must hate LGBTQ people" because of the war in r/place, which is ofc ridiculous and untrue and while a little surreal to see people get _that heated,_ it just goes to show how much it meant to a lot of people. It was truly fascinating to watch people get so passionate over pixels, and their own individual fandoms and communities. Much love to everyone who participated, on all sides, it was amazing to be a part of the internet and in the same place as so many of you.

I love the fact osu kept its place the whole time and fended off other smaller indie games. Its amazes me how a community of dot clicking weebs did so much to protect

Im not a regular reddit user, but this was great fun and i kept the map open all day at work just to see it evolve

The only entertaining bit about this amazing social experiment was the French vs Spanish streamers which was funny lol. However, I don't really enjoy the streamers who were just putting their logos in place on other communities' canvas, it's both frustrating and uncreative. On the other hand, I really enjoyed how tight-knit a lot of the communities were.

I was there for The Button and Place. Reddit needs to make this a yearly thing. It also shows the main point of what we are calling the Metaverse in 2022 will be that people really care about making their mark on digital land. Even 2d land. Even a pixel. Imagine when something like place is 3D….that looks like Apex or Warzone or even Minecraft. Persistence. This is the paradox that is so intriguing. We are used to having the virtual worlds reset.
