Im 13 and I struggle to speak because I have a semi-lisp which makes me struggle to produce my rs properly (I can't say certain sounds without it sounding weird) which makes me so insecure when speaking to someone so I end up mumbling or just not speaking 🥲

My son goes to the Speech therapy at school and he’s terrified by her it shouldn’t be that way I don’t even want him to go with her I believe she gets frustrated and upset when he doesn’t understand things

I have this selfish desire to want to prevent these videos/therapies from existing 😅. I currently have a crush on a girl with rhotacism and while the crush is not solely because of the impediment, it certainly helps me remember the sweet sound of her voice in my head when i dont get to see her and it got me interested to learn more about her in the first place. I love it so much i really wish people were more patient for people with impediments because i can kinda tell it really bothers her. Still its cool to learn about these techniques! Very well made/informative video though!

Is speech therapy successful if done online? My daughter needs it for English but we do not live in the States. 😞 It’s so odd to me that she pronounces it just fine in Spanish.

that was a good video.. hand or paper in front of the mouth does help to hear what kind of R you are producing.. having feel for how the R should sound and correctly hearing what you are producing are probably the most important parts for the subsequent self-correction...

@EmilyPerrySLP
@EmilyPerrySLP 3 года назад
6 to 8 is the latest age it can naturally develop on its own, but that does not mean that people older than that will not have difficulties. Speech and language difficulties present at a wide variety of ages and stages in life! That’s why my profession exists! I hope that maybe these strategies are helpful for you, but if not please seek out help from an SLP near you! Best of luck!

@@EmilyPerrySLPI’m 14, 15 in a couple weeks, do you think I can still fix my R’s or did I wait too long to start fixing it? it’s bad when i’m talking but when i’m just practicing slowly like this, it’s easier and I think I almost have it down.
@EmilyPerrySLP
@EmilyPerrySLP Год назад
@@nick-fw2fr What I know for sure is that you can do no harm by trying!! Everyone is different and will respond to therapeutic strategies differently, but always worth the effort of trying!

Why after R she is adding vowel at the end, like saying Raa? It makes it even more similar to W sound articulation.
@EmilyPerrySLP
@EmilyPerrySLP 2 года назад
This is just simply how you progress forward in speech therapy. The ending goal is not to just be able to say “r” on its own, but to say “r” well in a full word. Which unless it is a consonant blend word, it is going to be a post vocalic or pre-vocalic r. This is called co-articulation.
@djordje.stanis
@djordje.stanis 2 года назад
@@EmilyPerrySLP But shouldn't sounds be taught in isolation without any other sound blending in (Raaa)? The same R sound will come with many diff. vowels not just /a/after it. And the jaw move during coarticulation makes it even more similar to W and hard to distinguish the difference.
@EmilyPerrySLP
@EmilyPerrySLP 2 года назад
@@djordje.stanis yes the progression is first word in isolation, then word at the consonant vowel or vowel consonant level, then sound at word level, sound at sentence level, and sound at conversational speech. Each client will have differing goals, but this is the natural flow of progression we follow when teaching an articulation error.

I'm here at 29 lol. Have no trouble with Rs in Arabic etc but in English they're difficult, and that's my mother tongue 😅.. This helped a lot but words like train, string, three I feel I'm not saying it totally right
