The R36S made quite a buzz when it released eight months ago. But how does it hold up in 2024? Especially when you can regularly find this retro handheld on sale for under $30, it is a seriously interesting option.

I have a few newer models of the R36S, and I can confirm the buttons aren't stiff anymore. The membranes have been swapped. The shoulder buttons are the same though.

How can I know if the model I'm about to purchase is a newer one? I really want to avoid the stiff buttons and I found a R36S at a very good price

I got mine about 2-3 weeks ago for only 26 euros, and I'm blown away by that little guy. Insane value for that price.

Ordered one for myself, excited for it to arrive just to have a dedicated Snes/PS1 portable. Emulators on my phone are cool but cumbersome to use in practice.

SALE ENDS TODAY on Aliexpress 6/23/2024, but I just picked one up for $25 before coupons, I added a case to bring the total to $29 which is the minimum for a $4 coupon. So I'm in $25 for R36s and case, not bad

The R36S also has a new clone so when people start to get those we'd know if they really are better than the old ones. First one I saw of this clone uses the original screen, better buttons and better build quality so it's really interesting.

For me it's available for 59 dollars, as aliexpress and it's other alternatives dont work in my country Also, am getting it delivered in 3 days, shall I buy it?

Well it depends on the price of other handhelds in your country. For me in America, for around $59 I could get a handheld like the RG35XX Plus or the RG35XX H, which are both more powerful than the R36S. But those might be a lot more expensive where you live, so it really depends on the prices of everything else

@@ButtholioTheGreat im saying saving up for a more powerful handheld that uses the most up to date hardware and you can also use as a mini PC is a much more better idea and worth it in the end. Most people who buy these Ali express handhelds have like 4, 5, 6 different ones sitting around collecting dust because they updated to another one.

Hmmmmm, assuming you mean before using the coupon, it almost seems too good to be true. I'm not an expert when it comes to this stuff, but I would check out the store's metrics (like reviews, followers, etc.), how many of the R36s they have sold (it usually says on the product page), and anything else you can find about them. There definitely are some scammers on Aliexpress, and usually when I'm in doubt I'll pay a few more dollars just to make sure it's a legit seller, since I've heard Aliexpress can be hard to deal with if you were scammed

I typed out a bunch of stuff and youtube is bad about deleting everything with a single key click so I'll keep this one brief. I bought it, spent more on other things to use the coupon, and I'll let you know how it goes if I remember when it does or doesn't arrive. I have a feeling if I get it, it's going to be a first generation model with the worse quality controls

I also ordered one for 22 USD but have low expectations as I assume it's a scam. Will ask for a full refund though if that should happen. So far my experience with AliExpress customer service was alright.

@@swissunique record yourself opening the package, there's a scam where they put in cheap brick lcd systems instead of what you've ordered. There's a good chance it's going to be that scam. I assume it must be profitable if someone doesn't ask for a refund, but it doesn't make much sense to be since ali holds your payment in escrow until you say you've received the order and don't submit for a refund.
