Feeling the pain, cant drive my 2008 V8 R-tronic, nothing as drastic as oil locked but awaiting a gearbox hydraulic accumulator for near 2 months now. The humanity! Newly subscribed to follow along with your fix !

Are you sure there isn't something in the stars telling you to give Audi the big E. Maybe a return to the Z series again....can feel your pain!

I've considered a 6-speed R8 V8 as my next sports car, but I've been too scared of the reliability issues. I still would like to own one some day, but for now I'm probably going to go for a 2 car solution instead (E92 M3 and either an E89 Z4 or a 987.2 Boxster S). I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on deciding between an E89 35i or a 987.2 Boxster S, since you've basically owned both ? I would be getting a manual trans regardless of which one I get, I'm leaning towards the Boxster S right now. My main concern is actually all-season drivability, how did you feel about the usability of the Boxster with the top up in bad weather compared to the Z4? I know you also didn't love the power output of your 987.1 Boxster, but being a 987.2 I could get it up to almost 350 hp with some mods and a tune. Any input is greatly appreciated! This might sound a bit too obvious, is it not simply a knackered battery? When you turn the key the everything goes off and then comes on again, which looks like a duff battery from my pov, but obviously I'm not there in person to see what is actually going on. Can't see it being a seized engine, like you said it was running fine apart from the smoke.

Hey Ben. I was going to recommend checking the fuel pump relay. They are really common and symptoms are similar. Did I read correctly that it’s hydro locked with oil?

This is the problem with buying EXPENSIVE OLD CARS that have so obviously been battered by previous owners. I’m not sure what you expect really, save yourself the hassle (and expense) and get yourself a fiesta !

If you decide you want V10 side blades (they look awesome on the V8), after you get them, and see the gap, grab my v10 side blade intake mesh. Maybe I'll set you up with a set if you do the install and review ?
