As the postseason chase is turning down the home stretch, another set of races are heating up and turning up the dial to a hundred. One race in particular, the National League Rookie of the Year chase, looks far from settled, with the contenders neck to neck as they sprint towards the finish line.
But who are these ROY contenders? Some just barely old enough to indulge in playoff bubbly? Well, I could tell you now, but where's the fun in that? So, lets find out together, shall we?

They should make a rookie Cy young award. Pitchers don’t play nearly as much, maybe every 4-5 games depending on rotation, while batters play nearly every game. I feel judging them on the same field is unfair to Skenes, since Jackson has every game to make a news cycle, while Skenes only has once a work week. But since this isn’t the case. I’ll be pissed if Merrill doesn’t get the award. Skenes is starting to look very hittable.

100% agree. The same way the NFL has offensive and defensive ROY awards, MLB should adopt a similar setup for pitchers and position players. Both deliver differently on the diamond so it's only fair that they're compared to their peers on the same side of the field. There's probably some that would argue that it cheapens the award, but if the Cy Young award was changed from one for all MLB pitchers to one per league as it is now, then they can change the ROY too to pitchers and position players. Barring any seismic change, I'm confident this is Merrill's award to lose. Thanks for watching!

I don't think it matters that Skenes is a pitcher and Merrill is a position player. With the numbers Merrill has put up the ROY is his to lose

Honestly, yeah! He has come up clutch down the stretch and has really separated himself from Skenes. Also, I didn't mention it in the video, but I think Skenes is getting tired. They don't pitch every 5th day in college, so he's still getting used to the usage. Meanwhile, Merrill has been getting better as the season progresses and has come up clutch over and over again. I'd be surprised if Skenes wins it over Merrill

Exactly. As good as Skenes has been, a lot of it is the hype around being a former 1st overall pick as much as it is the impressive numbers he's put up. And that's not a knock on the guy, but pitching every fifth day, while doing it for a team that has tumbled in the standings, is a lot different than an everyday OF coming up clutch day in and day out for a team in the middle of the playoff race. If Merrill continues raking and playing defense like he has, he deserves it over Skenes. And thank you for the kind words, much appreciated!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

And he's back! Glad to see you back and making videos my guy. I think Merrill is the winner, hands down. Skenes is great, but like you said in the video, pitchers rarely win it. P.S. thanks for the prospects you gave us for Marlins fans for Tanner Scott. Talk about a huge haul for a 3 month rental! We promise to take good care of them lol
