I think programming languages will eventually become seamless to the English language. Many new languages are already moving towards that. Imagine just being able to say “Let there be light” and a light producing object appears when the code is ran. There could be a beginning and ending phrase to stop the code. For example “and end” would stop the code from being written as a semi colon does for text.

Voice typing is a terrible idea. Imagine having to speak out your password. Plus, how would computer programmers write codes?
@dappermuis5002

My issue with voice is that if you don't speak with an American accent, even with the learning curve of some basic ones I've tried in the past. It gives more hassles than it is worth and oh man don't get me started if you don't use an English word. There is also the issue that every time you encounter a device that you haven't used before, the long teadious and frustrating tries to get it to sort of recognise you after a couple of hours. Is not worth it either. A physical keyboard in what ever format it comes in will be way easier to do and work with.

Harkaranvir except a keyboard is obviously a lot more efficient than a pen and paper. The first product although cool, isn't really practical, and the second product, may be more efficient, but isn't 100% guaranteed to pick up what you say and there isn't much customization. And I still think pen and paper is good on its own. A lot more freedom and you can't make mistakes of the letter you try to type. These new tech however dont really bring much to the table.

That finger keyboard is the least ergonomic thing I’ve ever seen. The keyboard hasn’t changed since the typewriter because it’s as simple as you can get. Having to remember finger movement combinations for specific letters is ridiculous. With a keyboard, you can see what letters each key represents and you have freedom of movement. With that finger-keyboard you can’t even rest your hand on a table; it’s always on and interpreting your body movements as direct input. No twitching, no relaxation, no fidgeting allowed. Total mess.

@MeidanYona
@MeidanYona 6 лет назад
I actually have one. It's pretty cool and they have a really good learning app with the little songs that help you remember. After a few hours of playing with it you're gonna be decent at it. There's a button on the thumb module thing that lets you turn it off and on in an instant, so it's not always on and just putting the wrong keys. You can wear it for a pretty extended amount of time, but it gets pretty sweaty and sticky on my hand so unless I'm actively using it I just take it off and on, it's really easy. Also, you don't look at your keyboard after you're proficient with it, you just touch type, it's funny how muscle memory works. It isn't perfect, but it's a whole lot better than you think. It essentially works by figuring out when your finger stopped and registers a key like that. Also, it can be used as a mouse, which is really handy. Essentially the whole input with only 1 low profile peripheral.
@nunorogeriocm
@nunorogeriocm 6 лет назад
I guess that with practice you will start using the finger keyboard without even thinking. Right now I'm typing this comment and not for one moment I had to look to the keyboard to know where to press, the same could happen for that new type of "keyboard" after a learning curve is surpassed. Even if you have a blank I'm sure that with current technology they could implement a gesture or button that would open a small guide for you to remember what movement to do, it would be just as painful as looking at an entire qwerty keyboard looking for that specific letter or symbol. About the resting, you don't rest your hands on the current keyboard either.. You could have wraist supporters to aid with that the same way that we have some of those for current keyboards.

Pressing your palm using any of your fingers (except thumb) to turn on/off the gesture system so you can rest your hand. It should look like you're typing in the air, but the difference is the gestures could be in any direction (not just downward like how we type on a keyboard). 5 minutes in with this device, and you'll be ready to defeat Thanos after knowing 14 million possibilities.

Keyboards aren't going anywhere, but there are some other options then the ones mentioned here. One such way is with written words using a digital pen or with a finger, that is then that is converted into text. Also you can write on paper and scan it. Speech is useful, but there are cases where it isn't the best option, such as in very loud environments or places such as a library where you don't want to make too much noise. That wearable keyboard isn't the best I have seen, but I do think that there are legitimate uses for one handed input. I think that the future will have a wide variety of inputs for the standard user. Even today with traditional PC's we can have a keyboard, mouse, touch screen, voice input, ect. all in one device. I don't think that any one new way of imputing information will ever take over completely. There will be many different methods for different situations, preferences, and disabilities.

A keyboard is much more than typing text messages in a specific language, which is pretty much the focus of the video. You use your computer to play games, watch videos, surf the web, read books, listen to music. The keyboard is the universal peripheral that fits all current use cases. For example, I can't see people playing games or writing computer code by dictating everything to a speech recognition software. Also, you have special peripherals that were designed for specific use cases that the keyboard is not the best option, such as the many game controllers that exist to play different kinds of games, or the tablets and pens people use to draw. To think of a replacement for the keyboard is very hard. Just think about the keyboards that allegedly have better key layouts, such as the DVORAK. Even though it may make you more productive, people still refuse to use it because it is not as intuitive or ubiquitous as the QWERTY keyboard. And the DVORAK is still a keyboard. Imagine then, introducing a whole new peripheral. Will people actually adopt it?

A lot of people keep mentioning typing scenarios which occur at a regular computer like coding and writing and saying this is useless because of that. Think beyond what you do now... When your not at a computer. When you monitor is on the fridge door.

without directly tapping into the human brain, there is no way the keyboard can be replaced. the accuracy of the keyboard cannot be replicated with shortcuts.

I use Dvorak. It's annoying to change bonds for games but I made the switch years ago. It's worth it.

Wouldn’t something like a virtual key board which uses eye tracking much more easier for AR / VR? Hands are free to interact with the environment. Or even finger tracking to read gestures that mimic handwriting also work?

Wouldn't sign language already make this easier? Record hand gestures or gyroscope to sense what is being said by hand?

I don't think they'll ever replace the keyboard. however if they're able to perfect the technology where you think it and it types it out, that might replace the keyboard.

I mean this with no offence but to the people complaining in the comments: did you even watch the video? It seems like you didn't so here's what they talked about: Using free finger tapping technology for VR Solving the problems so that speech can finally be a serious input method Mentioning other technologies Summary explaining that qwerty is probably not going anywhere, and that each product will complement specific cases

what I really want is something that can read my mind and type it. I mean, I don't have to speak out to type something. I would just say it in my mind. Then it would not be awkward to say symbols and punctuations in my mind. Even something said silently on throat will work. More advance thing would be to put imagined images into a computer.

Keyboards aren't just used for communication though. Just ask the millions of gamers and content creators who use it for entertainment but at the same time simple enough for a child to understand.
