Our safari to the Maasai Mara in January/February became an expedition as extremely unusual rains for the time of year hit the plains. Daily rain (always somewhere in the area) in the evening/night meant the rivers rose throughout the night and morning as water descended from higher areas leading to treacherous river crossings. Each game drive was an adventure as to how high the rivers were at a particular time of day and what areas we could access. The black cotton soil gets very slippery and is unpredictable meaning vehicles continually got stuck needing to be pulled out (including ours, many times). An exciting trip!
