My dad always danced to this song with my sister ever since she was an ankle-biter. Twenty-five years later and this song gets him up on his bad hip to cut a rug with her on her wedding day. Nothing compares to memories like that. Thank you Rankin Family.
My Canadian friends introduced me 15 years ago to The Rankin Family and I have been spreading the word here in Co. Limerick Ireland since. Love ya Janice and Philthy ;))
YYYEEEAAAYY Rankin Family.....you guys are "The Maritimes", thank you for your wonderful music and my heart is broken with Raylene. I had cancer and I hate it. Keep on your great tunes, We love you all!!
I used to be the Lighting Technician for Strathspey Place in Mabou, Cape Breton, their hometown and everytime they played the theatre was always packed! lots of good times!

This song goes deep into the true Routes of being a true caper ! I’ve never had the chance to see them live but this song brings back so many memories hard to believe they only lived a few hours away on the side of the island!!! If you want to get some Cape Bretoners whiled up just play this or mull river shuffle at a bar or pub 🔥🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼from glacé bay Cape Breton much love to all my fellow capers & Canadians
Got to love their music! I live in Florida but a cute young lady in BC led me to this band after a couple years of chatting and their are at the top of my list. I sad about the tragedy they have endured because they left a lot of music unmade. RIP to those that have passed.
I was educated and turned on to their amazing music listening to an NPR station coming out of Spindale, North Carolina in 1992 (WNCW) when I moved to East Tennessee from Nashville. (ironic since I understand Cookie has dabbled in Nashville exposure in the distant recent past) but there was a Celtic format program on Sunday's after they aired Thistle & Shamrock hosted by Fiona Ritchie. It was (and still is) called Celtic Winds emcee'd by Richard Beard. I heard a LOT of Rankin Family and I was HOOKED. I won tickets to see them at the Bijou Theater in Knoxville and it was the most rousing, amazing concert I'd been to in my life at that point. Everyone who could danced near their seats or in the aisles. And one of the sisters actually apologized during the warm up before they started that she had a cold and wouldn't be able to belt it out as usual. I met women in the ladies restrooms who followed this family all over in absolute adoration and love of them as a family and their music and we connected. I've never met such loyal and amazing fans of singers before or since really. I still am deeply moved by their music and it shows a diversity that goes beyond Celtic and anything else. I wish someone would post "Natives" here from their album. So many of their songs were poignant and incredible and they still apply today (sad to say) Thanks for what I hear and share anyway. ((huge hug))) from a Tennessee girl who loves World music to her core
I Keep hoping the remaining band will regroup and make a comeback. I love their music and the loss of Raylene and John Morris are still felt, but there is so much talent in this family, I feel there is more for the Rankins to give and keep folk music alive and well.
Almost two weeks ago I lost my most special aunt who was like a mother to me. We use to have so much fun dancing to this song. It was so her!! Rest in peace Aunt Liz time will slip by and life will go on but in my heart you'll never be gone
Gordon Pinsent was my favourite actor. Not "one of my favourite actors" my favourite actor. I would have liked to do the bump and grind with him. I bet that guy could dance. I bet he'd be the coolest intellect a person could meet. Thank you Rankin Family. I love you! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️
A hot little BC chick turned me onto this band and they are awesomely talented! Love to listen to them. And I'm in Florida, lol The wonders of the internet.
I made the mistake of going and drinking with a bunch of Cape Bretonners after work once. I'd always liked music from the maritimes and that seemed to go over well... I kept up and even out drank one of them, but that was the worst hangover of my life
If any of you ever get a chance I suggest you take a drive through Mabou and along the Mull river . I built a silo on Mabou ridge in the early 90s we spent every lunch break listening to the Rankins on our cassette player
The Rankins are still my go to music for puttering around the house. I love to sing along, dance, and boogie my way around listening to the sounds of band that should have been around for years and years because their music was and is timeless.
