About to throw this on my diy cnc machine asap. 200$ is a bit much though for a 4 changer tho. Still gonna get it, but dang.

I have a 6040 with a 1.5 kW vfd and am so close to pulling the trigger on this. The first issue I see is runout. Technically a quality ER-11 collet wants to be torqued to 20 ft lbs (ref. techniks) to achieve the rated runout spec (.0002”). I have a torque wrench with my machine and can confirm that you only get close to that rated runout near 20 ft lbs. In some of your other videos you mention the ATC can reach 15 ft lbs, but normal operation is around 12-13. Now to be fair on low end hobby machines you can make a valid case that runout isn’t that important since you’re running tools nowhere near their full potential, but from my experience with 3D finishing using small tools in metals it can make a difference. Have you measured the runout on tools installed with your ATC and is there any possibility of it reaching 20 ft lbs of torque? Frankly even if it can’t I would still likely buy this product when ready. Second issue is swarf getting inside the spindle taper through the slits in the ER collet. I’ve noticed this is only an issue with small chips and fine detail work combined with air blast. One solution could be to design a small plastic insert that fits between the collet slits and blocks debris ingress.

Concerning runout that is interesting. I doubt you could get 20 lbs. When I first started with it if I was concerned I would simply pause and snug it up after loading and crack it unloading. It still beat the wrenches. Runout never occurred to me because in my thinking two tapers would naturally center on each other and I was more concerned with slipping which I have never had a problem with. I will take some measurements for runout. I have read that approaching the maximum torque values decreases the life of the collet and can cause runout. But I am going to take a closer look at it. As far as the slits collecting swarf go, a cover of some kind is an interesting thought. I wouldn't want to put anything IN the slits though, as they need to compress and I wouldn't want to interfere with that. Every solution comes with trade offs I guess. Thank you for the comment it has given me some food for thought and I appreciate that!

Very interesting. I need to figure out how to get my spindle to decrease RPM, it's "set" to not go below 7,000 no matter what I type in UCCNC. I would really be interested in a 10 tool rack. Otherwise I would buy this today!

You will probably need to set it in your VFD programming. If you join our Discord Server DM me and I could possibly help you figure it out. If you are using 0-10v for controlling the spindle it may be the lower analog frequency setting in the VFD set that to 0.0 if you have a Huanyang HY series it is PD073

Also we just finished up our plugin for UCCNC I am working on a video for that now :)

Will it work on a belt drive spindle or just on a direct drive or motorspindle?
@RapidChangeATC
@RapidChangeATC 10 месяцев назад
If the drive motor is a servo it will have problems with the stall on impact, causing it to power down. However I do not currently have that type of spindle set up to test though it is on my list of things to do. A belt driven spindle would naturally have more torque and would need less rpm for the engagement. so if it can tolerate the momentary stall, in theory it would work just fine, and probably achieve a bit more torque. But I can't say that from experience. :) Thank you for the comment!

@@RapidChangeATC i am thinking of getting a langmuir MR 1 but one of the biggest dealbreakers is that it does not have a toolchanger
@RapidChangeATC
@RapidChangeATC 10 месяцев назад
@@machiningmule5525 I understand. I have had a lot of interest from the MR 1community. Unfortunately the spindle on them is servo driven. I hope to take a closer look at servos and a possible solution for them. It's on my list which seems to be growing LOL
