im not really impressed by Nurse. I think he is a good coach but they were already an elite team with smart players before him and got one of the best players to take them over the edge. How they do in the playoffs this year will reveal a lot.
@dynasyss
@dynasyss 4 года назад
@@MohamedAli-dz1yo did you watch last year's playoffs? He out coached literally every coach he went up against. Please go watch breaddown videos of Nurse because any analyst would tell you wagwan. Those smart players were only allowed to flourish in the system brought in by Nurse. Even the previous raptors before he was headcoach, he was responsible for the offensive side of things but now you can see his defensive schemes. He's literally put the clamps on players like embiid, LeBron, kawhi, Lillard
@dynasyss

@@MohamedAli-dz1yo can you confidently say dwane Casey also a COTY, can take the 18-19 Raps to a championship? There's so much more to the game than smart players and an elite team. 50 or more perfect of an elite team is the coaching staff
@MohamedAli-dz1yo
@MohamedAli-dz1yo 4 года назад
@@dynasyss I watched the whole playoffs and I didn't see anything special. Gasol is a former defensive player of the year, Kawhi defensive player of the year, Fred- known high iq player, Ibaka defensive wizard, Danny Green- former Pop defensive wizard, Kyle Lowry- considered a plus defensively and on and on. Defensively they had all the talent and offensively they could strech the floor and almost all shoot the three. They all already knew where to be and how to operate from years of experience and I saw nothing amazing from their coach. Lebron led his teams to eight finals appearances because he was the best and had some of the best teams. Kawhi is arguably the best player in the nba and can shoot from anywhere at a super high efficiency and defend at the highest level, couple that with all the experience on that team and you have a very high likelyhood a good coach wont mess up their chances to get to the finals.
@dynasyss
@dynasyss 4 года назад
@@MohamedAli-dz1yo Exactly Ali it's about what YOU saw anyone else would tell you otherwise. Nurse literally got bullied for playing the box and 1 in the finals and he still went ahead and did it. Literally no team plays box and 1 in the NBA and it was the sole reason why raptors won the finals. Nurse has increases the 3 point attempts, pick and roll schemes with ibaka and gasol, and running the open floor. These are all things that nurse added over Casey. Raptors are obviously a quality team but they have a quality system that only Nick Nurse was able to implement. Players like siakam and vanvleet would not have had their big break if they weren't allowed their chance to play the way they play now. Raptors as a organization is great with finding these gems and allowing them to flourish unlike other teams for example the Lakers. That's besides the point however, if I need to explain to you why Nurse is a great coach and the greatest thing to happen to the Raptors then your just lost. Again like I said that box and 1 play call against the Warriors is the sole reason they won, the switch of Kawhi on Giannis the reason they beat Bucks, The shot against Philadelphia was a play ran up by Nick Nurse and you could see it constantly being put to use throughout the regular season. Kawhi said it himself that if was a play they've used before in the past games. You need to understand that you can have a stacked lineup but players do no solely win you a ring see the Maple Leafs for example in hockey, they just fired their coach because they were loosing games, even though they had a fucked lineup. Raptors a couple seasons ago fired their head coach to bring in Nick Nurse, mike budenholzer coming in to coach the bucks. I'm surprised you actually think that way.

I've been saying this to my friends, their Champions not just because of Kawhi. They're a solid team, and probably even better than last year because of new pieces, and returning ones from injuries. I also have a theory that, young players in a team without a bonafide superstar tend to reach or even excel beyond their potential because of the Void they have to fill. Thus allowing them more opportunities to grow and be better. With the loss of Kawhi, everyone now feels that they have a chance to prove themselves, and add that to the fact that they play incredible Basketball.

Thank you Coach D for this. The Raps are a talented squad and work well together this season without superstars including an injured Lowry. What's revealing is that Nurse is letting the bench play & stay in the game as long as their aggressive-starting Miller in one game, pulling him early and then allowing him to wipe up the Knicks going 4/5 from the perimeter in the last 13 mins. The back story is that Miller is competing for injured Matt Thomas' spot and went out and proved why he is a capable shooter come play-off time. It's a long season and the bench will get better defensively, as Nurse is not afraid to pull starters to get Boucher et al to get them/keep them in the game, like getting 2nd chance pts. off off. rebounds. What is not apparent in Coach D's video is the MVP affect on this team. Down 2 against the Bucks in last yrs' conf. final, Kawhi did not panic, shut down Giannis & won the next 4 games & rolled to a championship. Character-building is underrated but it allows Powell, Davis, Siakim, FVV to achieve personal bests when called upon. It will be interesting to see how the bench builds more character and achieves personal bests...Nurse/Masai et al allowing the team to do this for the next several yrs. with or without a superstar. Should be a great run....
@openrescue2283
@openrescue2283 4 года назад
Offence wins u games but Masai Ujuri wins u championships! As an experienced player scout with a focus on player dev., Ujiri values character-building, a dogged work ethic and player length more than their current skill level reveals. The Raps cont. to dev. Siakam, FVV, Terrance Davis, Boucher, Miller, Thomas who are low picks/undrafted but significant additions off the bench. Will the NBA reflect more of Ujuri's diversity philosophy or pound out/down superstars (Zion et al) to get'm to the promised land? This may bode well for Canadian basketball where underdog players have a great shot @ being scouted/invited to Rap camps if current US teams keep ignoring them, not to mention African players in the wings in the Basketball Africa League that Masai is mentoring. www.cnn.com/2019/02/17/africa/nba-africa-basketball-league/index.html

Another key part of their offense: fastbreak points from transition plays. They are leading the league in effective field goal percentage on defense, which partly means they are contesting more three point shots and forcing teams to take their shots from inside the arc. And whenever the play breaks down, and they force a turnover or a missed shot, they are already flying down the court to try for an easy breakaway shot at the basket. They currently sit atop the league in fastbreak points, and usually if an opposing defense figures out a way to slow them down, the Raptors are in for a rougher game. OG, Norm Powell and Siakam all have sprinting speed to move the ball quickly from end to end, and it's difficult to stop them without fouling them.

Everyone on that roster can lockdown (minus Matt Thomas who might not even be in the rotation when Lowry gets back) with lots of length athleticism and youth to go along with the 3 pt shooting and true 5 man out spacing in both units. Only dude on the roster who can’t shoot is RHJ. That and the past playoff wars and championship experience is a deadly combo to deal with. They just might repeat. If Siakam keeps trending to top 10 player superstar it will make it easier.

Raptors were conference contenders without Kawhi. I dont know why people thought they were gonna fall off the map after he left. The only reason why they couldn't go to the finals was cause of LeBron James dominating the east. First trip two trips to the playoffs in the decade were understandable losses considering it was their first berth since 2008. Then they suddenly grind it to the Conference finals and since then have been LeBron James's whipping post until he left the East. The Raptors have been a well-built team that just lacks a superstar to pull them a Finals win.

No Kawhi, no problem!!!...until the playoffs. We’ve seen this rerun before with Toronto, play a good regular season, fall short in the playoffs...except when Kawhi was there. If they repeat then this claim has merit, but until then...it’s a rerun.

I would say in the clips against the magic. It's not Vucevic's help anyway, b/c he is on the strong side on FVV's drive. What do you thinK
@coachdaniel8163
@coachdaniel8163 4 года назад
That's sort of the point. The fact that Gasol can stretch Vucevic's help out legitimately creates the spacing value. If A non shooting center stood in the corner, it wouldn't be Vooch's help in the sense that itbe would helping one pass away from the corner, but it would be a smart help rotation because there would be no risk. That explanation may have been confusing, but a lot of bigs can't stand where Gasol does due to Gasol's shooting.

Who knows maybe if Masai had let go Casey 2 years ago and hired Nurse maybe the Raptors would have been in the finals instead of the Cavaliers just saying 🤷🏿‍♂️

So the raptors look great and are playing great. But I remember the Heat (Lebron, Bosh, Wade) and Spoelstra getting a lot of heat for playing 5 out a few years back. What's the difference?

Kawhi still had the 3rd best playoff run in NBA history though, so have to respect him.

To all the Raptors fans hating on Gasol for scoring 9ppg... learn from this. Freddit and Lowry would be getting blocked without Marc at the 3pt line.
