It’s fine I gotchu hoomie; be5 Kh7 (forced) Kg7 If on move 2 Kh6, then Bg4 Kh7 Bg5 Kh8 (any bishop move other than Bf6 and Bh6) Kh7 then white bishop check and black bishop checkmate If on move 2 Kh8, then Bg6 Kh7 Bf5+ Bf6#
Here’s my solution: 1: Move leftmost bishop to F8. 2: The opposing king would have to move to H7. Moving to either G7, or G8 is Mate. 3: Move your king to G6. 4: Opposing King’s only safe move is back to H8, since any other square is Mate. 5: Move your king to H7. Opposing King can’t take your King, and the only squares he can move to will end up in mate, or your opponent’s resignation.
@@isavenewspapers8890In that case, as long as it's not another light square Bishop, you can Checkmate in pretty standard ways (of course depends on the specifics).
thats what I thought. But the reason that u have to underpromote to bishop is because if a queen, since it targets more than a bishop it will actually pin blacks bishop to their king and because of our king and our own bishop black's king has no squares to go but isnt in check leading to a stalemate
Ok, but why would a queen promotion work? It can literally make all the same moves as a bishop. Is there any advantage to it not being able to make straight line moves?
Yes. If you promote to a queen, the straight line move pins the black bishop to the king and can't move and the black King doesn't have any safe squares to move to which makes it a tie. But if you promote to Bishop, the black bishop doesn't get pinned and you can deliver checkmate.
friendly tip to win this endgame : 1) bishop to b4 , king goes h2 2) bisop again to f8 , king goes again to h1 3) bishop c4 , king goes again h2 4) king f7 , king goes to h1 again 5) bishop g8 , king goes h2 again 6) bishop again c3 is mate , you win you just have to create a mate while keeping opponent with nothing to do but back and forth movement to avoid a draw or a flag , Peace friends
I believe what you're going for here, is that the idea that there are so many things that have never happened, that they must be more rare than anything that has happened. In this case though, we know that all pawn promotions have been done, so since all options are exhausted it is actually possible (and likely) for bishop under promotions to be most rare
2 bishops mate is easy to learn, bishop and knight is even harder, i encourage you to learn it, basically put the bishops near each other to cage the king, and keep getting closer and make the cage smaller. when you get the king in the corner, and your king is on f6, and bishops on g6 and h6, and the black king on g8 or h8, then go Be8, and after they move, go Kg5, then Kg6, then if the king is on g8, go Bf7, and Bg7#, if the king is on h8, then Bg7 and Bg6#.
Except you can't. There's a silly rule where Black can't make moves that lead to being checked, and if Black has no legal moves it can make then the game goes into Stalemate instead of just Black losing for some reason. Promoting to Queen forces the Bishop to stay there because moving it leads to a check, and the black King can't move anywhere either, so they have no legal moves and it results in a stalemate. Being strong actually costs you the game in this case.
@@vdinh143I actually rather like that stalemate results in a draw. Maybe it's just familiarity, but I like how it often forces the player with the upper hand to actually think and be careful. Plus, it can make for some beautiful tactics.
To people joking (or seriously comment) about not being able to checkmate with 2 bishops: It's actually not that hard! You can learn a technique easily in some youtube videos. Once you learn, it's super easy! (Don't ask me about bishop+knight though).
For those who are wondering y not Bh5 after promotion, just play a waiting move like Ba2. So if he goes back to Be8, then Be7#. If not, he covered all possibilities
Promoting to a queen in this situation pins the black bishop to the king, the king can’t move into a check so it has nowhere to go and the bishop can’t move meaning the game ends in stalemate.
Pretty sure this is the most common underpromotion. If you are going to underpromote you’re gonna do it for a piece that has different utility from any other, which is the knight.
out of my 5 years in chess, i think this is the FIRST TIME where promoting to a bishop is actually useful and better than a queen. ive seen a queen (duh) ive seen a rook (everyone knows if you do a promotion check it must be a rook) ive seen a knight (sometimes thats better than a queen) but i have never ever seen a bishop beat a queen
d8=N also wins though. Its mate in 52, but its a win nontheless. ...Bd4 Bf7 and you have to cover both Ne6 and Ng8 Mate where you are going to have to sac your bishop. A much harder mate comes after Ba4 as it prevents Bf7 (The king can escape here). You therefore have to play Ne6+. Ke8 (Kg8 Nc5+ wins). Here both Bf3 and Bd4 win. This is because the bishop has to leave the a4-e8 diagonal (bf7 Bh5#/Bh6#) all other moves hangs the bishop from a fork (this includes kd7) here you must intentionally hang your bishop or allow Bb5# Please computer check your options. (Also stockfish couldnt solve this had to use tablebase)
Actually with Knight you can, you just move bishop to f7, and if he moves his bishop to b3, you just eat it with your bishop and then you are at a very better position, and if he doesn't move it to b3, you later move your horse to E6 and then you won
It’s because you don’t knight then go next to your king, you knight then bishop to f7, fellowed with knight to e6 IF they don’t move their bishop to b3 if they do take with your bishop, then move knight to c7 knowing the king will move towards it. Move bishop to e6, More elaborate but you can close from there as well. Making it not the only viable move…
Your only real goal after is to move your parts behind your king then lock their king into a corner, this is accomplished pretty well with a king and bishop. King c7, knight c6 and bishop b7, if you mess up you will probably stalemate but this closing takes 31 turns max from Any position on the board.
By the grace of god, I figured it out (yea, I'm a year late but it's still fun) Bf8, kh7 (forced), bg6+, kh8 (forced), bg7+, kh8 (forced), bf7# I don't even know if this is the fastest mate
