The pi hut has them for preorder but the US power supplies are already oos.

Here's to hoping I get one in time. I have a small story to share: Back in 2020, before the chip shortage, I bought 3 Pi 4s (4GB ea), fitted each with RetroPie, shoved them into a Retroflag NES case with a built-in USB SSD adapter. You fit your SSD into an included shell that's made to look like an NES cartridge, and pop it in like that. I gave each to a friend. First was the Chef de Cuisine of the buffet I worked at. I believed he was a friend until some things went down and I ultimately decided to change departments. The other two Pis went to coworkers, one of whom I'm still good friends with today, and the other ended his life in '21. After I gave each of these Pis away, I kept my Pi 3, liking the full HDMI header. But then the prices of the Pi 4 skyrocketed and I questioned not getting one for myself while it was affordable. I still question that decision.

It was supposed to be cheap. Putting only useful things on it $6 stuff upgraded to $60

Always been easy to add your own, make a shutdown script to run when a GPIO pin goes high and put a switch on a case to put 5v on the pin. RPis were originally made for learning how to code and use GPIO to control devices but that's slowly being lost as they progress to be more comparable to a PC running Linux

I'm mad they put one on it, power buttons are stupid, shutting down and rebooting is stupid and should not be encouraged.

I was just thinking the same. When these things start getting over €50 then they are loosing their usefulness and their ability to be picked up for cheap as learning tools for kids and teens or for people who want a small computer module for a project.

I was really confused there, because the Raspberry Pi B (the one I’ve had since it came out) has a display connector in the same place as this one, and is really similar looking.

Finally a proper way to connect storage. @jfolmar2004 thats still the same for the Pi 4 B

@@flintstone1409 I’ve not really been keeping track of the models that come out. The latest model I actually saw in person was the raspberry pi zero when that was new. (so like, late 2015-ish?)

Lol bought two full PI4 4gb kits from adafruit in 2020 for $70 a piece and two months later sold one for $140. Worked out for me I got a new OctoPi server for free...

@@l4kr they don't though?, the pi shown in the short we're looking at could probably run the backend of stable diffusion (using only cuda) if you shoved a Nvidia card onto that expansion slot, meanwhile the first pi when it was $30 couldn't even run it's own OS very well let alone much beyond being a firewall, as it wasnt even powerful enough to act as a 1080p plex server

why spend $60 on this, just get a cheap x86 machine

@@sandwich-plays because of it's form factor and ecosystem of add-ons and software, not saying it's better I'm just saying it has its uses

You have a pentium 3 465mhz cpu on your work laptop?

​@@shadmansudipto7287pi runs on ARM processor, not on x86 crap. ARM is much faster with less power consumption.

@@norbert.kiszka even so, modern or even semi-modern x86 laptop chips run circles around the pi 5. at least according to the limited benchmarks available atm.

Man I tried forever to get my hands on a raspberry pi 4 (that wasn't way over priced) and never could find one... just saw them in stock at bestbuy the other day. But now I don't want it

Almost any Pi generation is amazing for certain uses! I still run a couple original Pi Zero for things that just need to check in now and then, but need to do more than a microcontroller.

Nice one, I have this new one but don't use it, only got it because I have every one from the 1st, Pi3 is my favourite because it has just enough to process simple things quickly and doesn't need the expensive 5A supply. Mine run off mobile phone chargers.

Really? I came to the comments looking for info about power consumption. I want an always on Home Assistant server and was going to buy a Pi4. Because it's got to be on all the time I really want the power usage to stay low. Will the Pi5 really use less?

Especially with the CPU Power, this would be great to run a few small VMs.

that would be a dream. I immediately looked for 16 hoping it would be there. Actually, compare with Orange Pi 5B series with Rockchip 3588, 16GB for $150 if you really need the memory.

​@@greycell2442Except the RK3588 is either stuck on an old kernel branch with custom Rockchip additions that weren't upstreamed, or it can run the latest kernel but HDMI doesn't work. For a router this is not a problem (especially with 2.5G Ethernet and plenty of RAM for Docker or VMs), but support for HDMI is kinda mandatory with the new firmware controlled GPU job queue that makes it an emulation monster if only the GPU could output to a monitor. Linux 5.x sucks on heterogeneous ARM SoCs, the CPU scheduling is much smarter on 6.x
