Doctor : You got 5m left to live, any last wishes? Me : I wanna listen to Grave of the fireflies by The Raven Age Doctor : But that's 8m! God : I'll allow it
There are only a handful songs in modern times which surpass eight minutes and rightfully so. You notice real fast, if one song is set up to meet eight minutes or has been made until it's rightful end and reached eight minutes.
This song was written about a story, a pseudo-autobiography, of the same name, originally written by Akiyuki Nosaka, a survivor of the Kobe Fire Bombing, and adapted by Studio Ghibli into one of its most well-known films, again of the same name. Notably, the story covers tragedy, in which he lost his younger sister to sickness, his adoptive father to the fire bombing, and his younger adoptive sister, Keiko, to malnutrition. The story was written as an apology to Keiko, regarding her passing.
Thank you for posting this comment. As soon as I read Studio Ghibli I wanted to watch it. Now that I have, it gives so much context and meaning to this song. Gonna curl up in a ball and cry now.
I really have to appreciate the clever use of background footage for this, you guys could have taken the easy way out and put generic war stock photos in the background but the images we see are either from the Pacific War or the bombing of Japan in particular, even putting in the destruction of the U.S.S Arizona and Japanese troops in action to fully encompass what a horrible conflict it was. Lovely song, lovely video!
No you're misinterpreting what they're saying the same because war doesn't mean you can't have peace you should really listen to the music and listen to what they're saying and try to use your heart cuz it's clearly you don't have one
@@activemelody3829 its based on a story that also inspired a Ghibli movie called Grave of the Fireflies. And its about a pair of siblings during the bombing of Japan. The sister dies at the end which is why it keeps mentioning a sister. Go watch it n educate urself. Lol.
As much as I love it I noticed some small things. Call me nitpicky and pedantic, but some things I caught: - I wish they'd stuck with the 2D cartoonish style all the way, the switch to 3D feels jarring and the visualiser graphic is even more jarring. The parts by themselves are splendid but it would've been better to stick with just one. - Setsuko (in the movie) or "little sister" is in a hexagonal coffin. Western funeral homes have long since switched to square caskets and funerals in Japan are always cremations, hence the depiction of her bones in the Ghibli film. That being said, the coffin is symbolic more than literal so it feels somewhat wrong to nitpick on that. Just something that stood out to me as I'm Japanese. That's not to take away from the fact that this song is beautiful and heartbreaking. The quiet interlude gave me goosebumps. Reminiscent of the bass arpeggio in "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", or the clean section in "Victim of Changes" in the sense that it progresses the story and tells a tale without words. I love the band, the song, and the video as a whole.
This song hits SO HARD man, SO SO HARD. What a masterpiece!!! 6:02 is the apex for me. His voice saying 'mother...' looks so much like Corey Taylor at the start of this part btw.
@@guilhermeventura275 I second this, but with the advice that if you do watch that movie clear your calendar for the rest of the day because you'll be too busy crying. (Yes this is obviously an exaggeration... But not by much.)
This has some real value. i literally cried. Connections to real historcal events are what makes Music so much more emotional and serious. Great song! thank you very very much.
I've been listening to you for years, but just to the song "Angel In Disgrace", but when I discovered this song a few months ago, you've become one of my favourite bands...you are just great. Continue doing this masterpieces!
I think I agree, closely followed by the day the world stood still. They really nail the "slow and heavy" style. The face that launched a 1000 ships and tomb of the unknown soldiers are also very good. Grave of the fireflies though... Maybe it's because of the backstory, but it gets you right in the feels.
As someone who not only makes it through each day by filling my head with music, but takes interest in World War II, I was not expecting this song to hit on as many levels as it did. By no means is that a bad thing, either. This song, sadly enough, somehow gives realization that the Allied powers did some equally brutal and extreme measures to try to win the war, namely the bombings of civilian targets with fire bombs, and nukes at the end. This song is beautiful, in more way than one. To anyone who has yet to watch the movie by the same name, take the time to do so.
I don't normally comment but WTF this song is so underrated on views. This band is amazing. The fact that WAP has millions of views but this doesn't is a horrendous short coming of society.
I watched these guys perform last night in Munich as an opening band to Iron Maiden. Never heard of them before. There was this part where we turned on our phone torches and created a nice effect like "fireflies" as they dimmed the stadium lights and the part starts "Mother and Father will dry your eyes..." I loved it but had no idea what it was about, now after looking it up it makes so much more sense especially after watching that Studio Ghibli Movie couple of years ago. I like them even more, awesome performance
You won't regret parting with $10 a month for premium .. I can't believe I took so long to get it .. I started getting double ads and I felt my chemicals changing 😂.. then the cheeky rats started throwing in 20 minute "how to" get buff and rich fuckery .. Well played yt .. well played
I watched these guys at Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Opening the Iron Maiden show, and this song was amazing, we used the cell phone flashlight as if they were fireflies. unforgettable!!!!
I strongly recommend watching the movie, loved this song for a whole year before doing that, but know it is in my top 10 spanning from the 80‘s til now
Humanity was already a lost cause. Their is no helping it since mankind is devided. At this point, it is better to completely eradicate mankind then to let it live further. I guess in a way, that would be the real reason why god would set a timer before bringing the end of time on his creation.
The Governments are not the ones who suffer, it's the innocents. The peoples who never chose the path of bloodshed. Just trying to live their lives, work, love, and raise families. God have mercy on this wold and illuminate hearts. Let us turn back from the edge of this cliff. Our Blessed Mother sheds endless tears for us in heaven, begging us to return to her Son, the one who selflessly shed every drop of His precious blood to pay the debt for our blindness and sin, to bridge the gap we created by turning our back on Him, and restore us to His fold, to Himself.
I actually clicked on this by accident and stayed because the name of the song sounded familiar. The song itself didnt sound familiar but i stayed because this song is amazing. Best accident ever
In 2019 my daughter & I went to see alterbridge in the o2 one of their backup groups were these & shinedown were really great to listen to the Raven age I went and bought everything they have ever done & I must say I haven’t been disappointed yet I love everything they have done
saddest movie ever.. we all tske so much for granted. if our phone dies we freak out meanwhile they had to literally survive bombs and starvation and lose everything and everyone... and they didn't survive..
This is an abolute masterpiece ! I've been following metal since the end of the seventies and I can tell this is one of the most emotional song I've listened to. Thank you so much guys.
The first time I heard this song was on sound cloud, but the imagery in my mind still were immediately images of WWII… but it was the invasion of Poland for some reason…
That graphic of the firefly (on fire), with the graves and hands coming out from the ground is already great enough. Really excited about the video. :) Edit: It delivered! And the imagery compliments the already heart-quenching song really well. Loved it, thank you! :)
There are times in my life when I wonder if my emotions have deadened and dulled... and then a song like this comes out and plucks at my heartstrings in a way I haven't felt in a long time. Thank you for this amazing piece of music. The soaring vocals and guitars, driving drums, and the absolutely top shelf lyrics moved me in a way I seem to have forgotten was possible... I brook no shame in saying that I ended up crying. This song is POWERFUL.
Me me wife and 2 kids had Xmas dinner yesterday all wearing "Grave of the Fireflies" T shirts. Last year we all wore Conspiracy ones. These boys are absolutely brilliant So good live and great to meet. 2021 awaits
I discover this band in 2019 with the album Conspiracy , me and my friends we a tradition at the end of the year , we make a list with top 3 albums of the year , and the biggest surprise for my friends was when in my list this album was number 2. Great jobs guys. '' Sorry for my bad english ''
I'm sure this will be read by absolutely nobody out there! Only discovered Ravensage through the fact they will be supporting Iron Maiden next year. What an incredible choice this is. This song has blown me away in particular.
love the song, my one gripe from this is the C-130 and passenger plane silhouettes at the beginning. would've been great to see them go 100% true to form with the theme.
Yet again The Raven Age have smashed it out of the park with their lyric videos. The cinematics go so well with the song. Well done lads! Hopefully see you play again live when this is all over.
this still hits me real hard i love the heart and effort that has been put into this everyone else has forgetting what Akiyuk had to go through to keep his sister but nope he fighted his battle to keep his sister alive RIP, the world hasn't changed and never will... this song is still the most important on this on planet for world war and how many people have to suffer for this war for NOTHING!!! my nan was in the world war born 1935, this war ballshit needs to end now RIP Keiko
I never watched the film, my first introduction to this song was the older video on the channel where it was just the album cover and the song. I did not anticipate a lyric video to it being as emotional as it turned out to be.
I was just recommended this song by my Spotify and I have to say this is one of the best songs I’ve ever listened to- and this is coming from someone who is in the top 99% of listeners on Spotify ❤
Wow awesome video guy's ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻🔥🎸🎙️🥁🎶🤘🏻 absolute loved it😊 You all know i'm a BIG fan, so glad you finaly made a video for this epic song❤️ my favorite from the first time i heard it, i was lucky to see it live twice last year, looking forward to see it again very soon🤘🏻❤️🤞🏻, love Linda (a Crazy Raven)
My husband discovered you at the beginning of the year, when he then played me your music I was instantly hooked! Many an hour had been spent listening to you.
