I’m glad you feel the same way! I just finished it and I really liked the atmosphere and characters but it was lacking something that would make it amazing. I was expecting to like it more and for it to go more into learning spells but it just kind of gave up on that very soon after it even started. I was also frustrated with the ending and how there was such little dialogue at the end. They barely even talked about what happened and it just made me frustrated how this huge thing happened and it didn’t even get talked about.

I liked The Ravens, but feel that The Monarchs was totally different in tone. Definitely has the darker vibes (curses, things going wrong, etc) but I think less sisterhood than I felt in the first one. I feel like the two feel disparate enough that they're actually for totally different readers.

I didn't finish this book halfway through..I just couldn't get into it. I thought some of the dialogue was awful. I believe it's two authors. That may be the problem. Also I read tarot and it seemed like the authors new nothing about it all. Unhauling it today. So sad because I love the cover. I was extremely excited to read this.
