Built in 1846 the Reading-Halls Station Bridge was originally designed and used as a railroad bridge. The bridge is almost certainly the oldest all-metal truss bridge in active service in the United States, a lone survivor from the first series of all-metal trusses of any kind designed and constructed in the United States. This Howe pony truss bridge followed shortly after the construction in 1845 of the very first all-metal truss bridge, the West Manayunk Bridge, also designed by Richard B. Osborne and built by the Reading Railroad.

Pennsdale is in Muncy Township. Probably why Muncy Fort was there. I am a native of Pennsdale.

Beautiful bridge! I believe this is the first time I've ever saw a cast iron bridge that I know of, beautiful architecture and design! It's a miracle it has survived this long! Thanks for sharing it with us! Awesome history and story there! Awesome episode!

Wow, I have never heard of a cast iron bridge. That bridge has some very nice details, especially for a bridge that was originally used for railroad traffic. Really cool bridge and, with regular maintenance, it will survive for many generations to come. It was a real pleasure listening to Mr. Barlow tell about the history of the bridge and the surrounding area, very special!!! Good job Satolli!!!
