The fact that the voice actor of an antagonist in a gunslinger/wild west game is actually related to one of the most notorious and greatest lawmen and gunslingers back in the day is insane
Ms. Grimshaw's death always gets me. Absolutely no one spares her a glance because they can't. She dies painfully surrounded by family who'd rather kill each other than help her. It's brutal.
The “I’m afraid” scene is one of the best scenes in all of video games. It legit made me put my controller down and reconceptualize Arthur as a character.
Oh, nice, i remember putting the controller once for about 10 minutes and just staring into the screen after THE scene in TLoU Part II. The trailers convinced me that everything's gonna be fine, at least at the start of the game, and then BAAM! I was not expecting that in the slightest, and the scene itself was soo well done, i felt like it scarred me fr at that moment.
I burst into tears at that point, because I'd grown so attached to Arthur, & to see such a tough & charming guy vulnerable like that for the first time....broke my heart. Amazing subtle voice & facial acting.
arthur legitimately saved my life. i played rdr2 in a rough spot of my life and it really changed my outlook on life, arthur will always hold such an important place in my heart. still playing the game nearly 2 years after i’ve finished it
Good to hear bro. The game made me get closer to my dad I hated him growing up cause I thought he was bad, but just like Arthur I realize everyone makes mistakes but still can have beautiful humanity inside them, my dad loves horses so I started to ride with him cause of red dead 1 + 2
I met him in person at an anime convention and when we took a picture he said “You’re a good boy.” I was drowning in fan service. Red Dead Redemption 2 cured my depression and I will never forget get it.
It’s the setting actually, he literally confirms it in the video, and it’s this amazing moment when the storm breaks just so that Arthur can get his last wish of dying facing the setting sun.
I just love that Roger Clark, is a huge fan. A lot of voice actors don't really care for their character and see it as a pay check and move on. But you can tell Roger Clark had his input on the story, his own editions that he felt were necessary for Arthur Morgan. During this video you can even see him talk about certain animations that not a lot of players would catch such as Javier pointing his gun at the sky. HE EVEN knows everyone's names all these years later. He was the best choice that rockstar could've ever done.
I really love that R. Clark is such enthusiastic about his role and how Rockstar treated them. And I like that you can really see how he love what they created
@@neoneinar5761 there is no point you are not honorable and that's what the whole entire conversation is about people saying that their a different style of character than what they actually are in the f****** game yeah Sjws always try to justify something but can't prove nothing yet still.get support.. super annoying there's no point to have an honor System in the game if it has no use or meaning behind the forced main story Also why are you saying the character tried to be a good person ? that's literally your own false created opinion you're trying to lay down as fact you know that's a form of insanity right? The actual fact behind the lie you just said on the description on the game case itself says you are a outlaw there's no such thing as a good outlaw Kiddy. it is completely two different meanings Yet here you are
I'll always remember Dutch's quote in the game: "When I'm gone they will just find another monster. They have to. They need to justify their wages." He was right. And he still is.
In the High Honor Ending, Arthur is facing east, not west. He is facing the rising sun. It symbolizes the change he has made toward something more hopeful; high honor.
It also symbolises how Arthur died facing the future instead of looking back as the past, it meant he died with hope that John and the others in the gang could make something of his death.
I feel when playing this game especially as Arthur Morgan’s character we all as individuals take on our own unique perspective and meaning and likely perceive the endings high honor low honor, whichever it is in the game, our own way based on how we played the game itself and the relationship we took on with the characters everyone sees it differently yet there are some that may see it the same. It’s a very interesting thing. I love reading the comments of how people perceived the ending and Arthur’s unfortunate demise.
@@michaelkean5969 YES! This, coupled with D’Angelo’s “Unshaken”, a song about confronting the end of an era with courage, never fails to make me cry like a baby.
Seriously, I thought that was the most I ever cried for a video game. Until Arthur's death, I can't describe the heartache, felt like I lost a friend, plus the immense betrayal I felt as well on top of it all. Fuck you Micah. lol
The sister scene is by far the best scene in the game. When Arthur says he is afraid. That is when it hit, when he talked about his momma and daddy, his old love and his son. And how he lost everyone and then how he is afraid he is going to die, knowing he is near the end of his life. Not sure how many people think it is the best scene, but for me, it is the most real it felt. Never cried at the game but the sorrow I felt for Arthur there was the closest I felt to crying. Just unbelievable how Rockstar have made such an amazing story that could be a movie. Basically it is a movie you have some control with.
@earfwerm No it's a fact, Arthur had a better conversation with Revereand since he actually knows Arthur as he has had multiple conversations with him. The nun appears at the end of the game, she knows nothing about Arthur.
@sonicbobomb15 No, that is down to personal preference. You can't tell someone else the scene you like is the scene everyone else should like. Doesn't work like that.
@Colgan1 It's about how long they knew each other. The girl, 5 minutes, Reverand, at least 5 years. Why would I choose the girl? How is that a better scene? It's not. She says "I know you." Like no you do not, at least when Swanson says it, I actually feel it as he knows Arthur. They should've just kept her out of the scene and left with Reverand.
This game broke at the start of the woke slop age. We might never get something like this from Rockstar ever again because the current staye of the world rejects anything or anyone not pushing the agenda
Thank you Mr. Clark for the react. After 6 years of its release, I still get teary seeing Arthur struggling in predicament while becoming more and more emaciated. He is by far the best character ever written in gaming history in my humble opinion.
14:55 I think roger would really like this idea, in this ending which I hope every player had the first time, Arthur isn’t actually seeing the setting sun to the west, he’s seeing the rising sun to the east. He’s not remembering all the great times in his life out west, he’s thinking of the life he gave to John by helping him escape and protect him, the future ahead
He couldn't have been seeing the setting sun anyways. The entire ending mission is at night and you see the sin rising in the east. Arthur told Charles that he wanted to be buried facing the west. He never said anything about which way he wanted to face while dying
@@darknesswave100 He very specifically says in an optional conversation at the camp (in relation to the fear of dying) "I don't care about all that... just lay me west so i can watch the sunrise and think of all the good times we've had." The quote is strange in that it isn't accurate because the sun rises in the East not West, but he very clearly says this nonetheless. And how tf is he going to "think of all the good times" if he is already dead... this is obviously referring to the moments leading to death, and this is even further proven in that the entire context of the conversation was the fear of dying.
What is incredible is that even 11 years after it started being produced, 7 years after it was published, thousands of awards (IT SHOULD'VE WON THE FUCKING GOTY) and the actors still have to say something before unknown about the game. Absolute masterpiece
6 years later, still, no other game has come out that is even comes close to how good and interactive Red Dead Redemption 2 is.... Extremely honoured to have played the game thrice... Gonna play again....
After all these years, hearing Arthur admit he's afraid still brings me to tears. The expression on his face when he says it breaks me. You can see his uncertainty and you can almost feel it. Roger deserved the award he got for voicing arthur
There's a couple compilations on youtube with funny moments in the game and I swear Arthur is like 90% of them 😂 I can't remember who said it but was after Micah was captured: Somebody: They're talking about hanging Micah Arthur (without missing a beat): Here's hoping Dutch: Arthur!! Arthur looks at him with a confused look on his face like I just said what we was all thinkin anyways
I believe Roger Clark's performance in this game is the best in the history of videogames so far. The range of his acting in RDR2 is astonishing. He is like James Gandolfini in The Sopranos or Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad.
"People can be good one day and can be bad the next. And that doesn't necessarily have to be a contradiction of their character. People react differently in different circumstances." - The REAL Arthur Morgan
Dude, you are da man! I jumped back into video games only in the past year after a 20+ year hiatus, and got RDR2... holy shit! your voice acting is incredible, the movements and expressions of Arthur Morgan, the detail, even going into town and watching full on vaudeville shows, I never saw anything like that. Thank you for your work in that game.
Thank you Mr Clark. You are one of a kind. I continue to play rdr2 daily, to this very day. I am 60 years old and act like im 20. I don't think I'll ever put it down!
Literally wrote my college essay on this game and I’m about to start as an acting major. All these performances and this entire game means so much to me the words would be an understatement.
Roger is such a sweet dude. His love and respect for the game and for the industry is so touching. Every time I see him online he is having such a kind and warm passionate about the work he is done on the game. He did a pehnomenal performance that is one for the ages.
I cannot believe it's been 6 years already. I got this game in March 2020 when Covid hit and I still cannot believe how fast it flew by. Still one of the best games ever
@@Indigo_1001 They were near the end of the Wild "West" time and the world is moving on with or without them, so technically he should be heading East for a better future
All I can say is Thank you Mr. Clark for Bringing to life and being one of the best Gaming Char I had the privilege of journeying with in my life! God Bless!
Im glad content about RDR2 is still being made. I just finished my first playthrough about 2 weeks ago, and it was a once in a lifetime experience. Seeing how much was put into the world developement along side the characters always amazes me.
@@DanielThureskogDon't forget the horse in Ghost of Tsushima Because it's similar to the Red Dead death scene Where Jin says something similar to Arthur saying "Thank you."
14:45 No it was the complete opposite, he wanted to be faced to the west seeing the setting sun but instead he was faced to the east watching the sunrise.
11:51 not just that, I'd like to think it extends to RDR1 as well, as we know Dutch was never went to hunt and kill John after all those 3-4 years, only when John was forced to hunt him down he then retaliated. But even then, he had many opportunity to kill John, instead of doing it he gave his life away, choosing to fall over the cliff instead of trying to fight John for what was left.
Heck I’m playing through the story as we speak….. for like the 25th time and I’m STILL finding interactions with ransoms and treasures and items I have never seen
I don’t know what i would have done without this game and the people who helped make this masterpiece piece it was the only thing that helped me cope with the loss of two of my most loved and cared for grandparents one of them who loved westerns
He said he started motion capture in August 2013. Now, it's possibly gta 6 started production in 2018 after Rdr2's released. So, this is why gta 6 takes so damn long.
i've been playing video games since i was kid- starting with Duck Hunt on NES. it was only until i was older, playing RDR2, that a video game actually pulled at my heart so much that i ended up crying like a baby at the end. this game is a masterpiece and Roger Clark did a phenomenal job. Arthur Morgan is one of, if not the best, protagonist of any video game ever. much love.
2:04 Arthur “gotdammit!” A gut punch that I never saw coming and still gets me. Hosea was a father figure to so many, and the voice of reason. Rip my fictional homie. And a tip of my hat to the actors that brought this masterpiece of a story together.
man, arthur morgan and john marston are the best characters in game, I had my eyes sweating in both games (good endings of course)... arthur is pure heart/honor, john is the best family/father in a game (of course in rd1 we did not had arthur, so in the second game they show that arthur helped him to be better, become who he was in rd1, and this makes both so good characters, the construction is so good)
I didn't notice Javier was pointing his gun in the air in that scene -- my mind was still reeling from Micah shooting Grimshaw. But yeah great detail from R* -- shows Javier sides with Dutch but still is not happy to shoot Arthur and John. I was hoping Javier to join Arthur but it came no surprise he would rally to Dutch's side. I remember in Clemens Cove he asked Dutch what's next after hiding in the south like a bunch of criminals. Dutch responded that the gang are outlaws, rebelling against the system. Javier: there is a difference between an outlaw and a criminal?
Javier's VA wanted to side with Arthur, the story of RDR1 doesn't allow that though so he asked for that little symbolism of being on dutchs side though still caring for the 2.
I kind of wish that hadn't happened, it goes against what was established in the first Red Dead Redemption. "He had a lot of passion, but no love. He never cared for me, or anybody else." -John
I love Roger Clark so much for giving us the iconic and best protagonist in video games. You both changed and influenced my life and I will never forget you.
9:33 this is one of those scenes that made me cry. I was so attached to Arthur Morgan. Roger Clark and R* did a great job with this game. RDR2 is such a huge game that I can't see any other game being better than this (except graphically). I am not sure if GTA VI will be as good as RDR2‚ but it is the only game that could compete with RDR2.
Ty Mr Clark for the best game character I'm ever likely to enjoy. I'm 55 & on my 8th playthrough & will never tire of the beauty of this masterpiece or of the wonderful, rich characters that you all bought to life.
Watching this video I just feel so much emotion reflecting on the work and detail put into making this game so great and what is has become and how much it means to each and every player who bought rdr2 I have some amazing memories attached to this game and will forever hold red dead redemption 2 dear to my heart thank you rockstar and I can’t begin to even show my appreciation and love for Roger Clark’s involvement and creation of one of the most iconic characters of any game in history Arthur Morgan you are an amazing actor and person Mr Clark thank you so much for all your amazing hard work.
I just finished this game in the end of Aug 2024 (I know I know, I’m late to the party) It’s now one of my favorite games of all time. Thanks for peeling back the curtain and letting us see how detailed Rockstar went with this game and thank you for providing us with such a great and interesting character!
