You're Spartacus and I care! Thanks a lot for the very helpful, detailed breakdown of living costs all delivered in your mellow style - you are the the thinking man's Thailand vlogger. Have a great week and keep up the good work. Regards from the UK.
Ciao thanks for your video, I'm retired with my wife, we are dreaming of staying one or two months in Thailand, our idea is Phuket. For my all-inclusive accounts, excluding insurance and flight, A quiet decent couple life, beach food, massages, I should stay between €2000 and €2400 per couple. what do you think about it ? Grazie ciao
I pay 20,000 baht a month for a two bedroom in Pattaya. I have an in with the landlord or it would be 5-10 more. Except in my little gated community, I don't know anyone paying that little or a house. I know of condo's that could be has for 15k that meet western standards pretty much. For 8-10k you would have to live like a thai, no air-con, no kitchen, unless outside burner. Not so clean, and you may be the only English speaker in the building.
Maenam went first eve on the beach and I never seen lightning ⚡ like this looking over too koh pan yang! Don't like the way I pronounce it... Do 1😜 sat under a wooden hut and watched my amazing lighting show with 2 big bad bhoys of Chang 🍺
This is an awesome, informative video, Thank you. I'm coming from the US with a $2,100 monthly pension. Where do you recommend I live to get started? I'll be 40 in May. Single, no kids. Don't party or drink much. Thanks!
Hi mate, thanks for the kind words! I can't suggest what location is best for you but my suggestion would be to rent short term and if you're happy stay where you are and if you aren't you can try the next town or island. I was in Phuket for 4 years before I came here... Great thing about Thailand is you have lots of options!!!
Best bet is driving around ringing numbers as a lot of Thai owners don't advertise but Facebook marketplace is good and Airbnb or booking.com will give you an idea where is cheap and you can go negotiate in person 👍
Hey ma Man still keeping it real 😁 👍🏻 quite surreal when you done the the first time in Bangkok stuff!!! And I knew after a few days on my tod!!it's like where I'm I!? Material 😏 fucking shock in the arse!! I was 2005 year after the big wave!! And I'm all paranoid until I got too samui then .. thought I died and went too heaven 😁
Good video mate, enjoyed that. Good effort with trying get comments on your spend, better luck next time. All the best from UK but currently in Thailand for 1 more week 🙂
Awesome video! I am trying to keep my place in the US the first 3-6 months, so my budget would be $1000 per month. If I decide to stay for a few years then I will let my condo go. Are these numbers still close enough. Hingis in the US are sky rocketing really quickly. Thanks great video!
Prices have definitely risen in the past 6-12 months at a much sharper rate than all the 7 or so years I've lived here put together! Hua hin and Chiang Mai are both a little cheaper than Samui but honestly I think I'd struggle. 40k is the minimum I'd want to try and survive on, although honestly I spend more than that these days 😪 ... Thank you for your kind comment 🙏
@@thethairishsun so $1000 is durable with a stash of emergency money. I really would love to stay and teach for a few years. I am an English teacher to non speakers, mostly Spanish and French. But, I also want to learn the language and truly immerse into the culture. I do have a friend who has lived just north of Chaign Mai for decades now. So, that will help a lot. Will continue to follow great content!
I'm glad you mentioned the exchange rate fluctuations as that's a big unknown. People need to get out of their head that rent is $400 as it's really 12,000 baht etc, etc. 30,000 plus entertainment is a decent budget.
great video.that's our plan when the kids get older.work the summer in the uk and head to Samui for the winter.have been coming to samui since 1999 when I fell in love with the place.been coming back ever since.Hope to get back next easter for 3 weeks with the family.Be nice to meet up over a beer or even a cocktail at pik's!!!we always stay on Lamai beach so in the same area.keep up the good work🏖
@@MrBuggchild I played in Hua Hin a few months back for the first time in about 2 decades ... Liked it enough to get a second hand set of clubs!! But I won't pay the rates here in Samui, it's scandalous!
Really informative video man! This year I also plan to move with my boyfriend and two dogs to Thailand. :) What's the situation with street dogs? We are a little bit worried about that. Do they come up to you during your walks? on your videos it seems not to be a problem. Thank you for all the information! :)
Hi Natalia, they can certainly be a problem when they don't know your dog. The worst ones aren't the dogs with no owners but the ones that live outside of where ever they get fed- they are very territorial. If your dog is on a lead you'll be mostly left alone as they do not attack humans (at least I've never seen it)
Cheers mate... the price would vary wildly from place to place tbh but for 3 rooms and a pool probably 30k at least and when you add in pet friendly your options are probably less than 10% of those with no pets (very few people accept them)
Very nice apartment mate. Samui is very beautiful. Use to live there in 2018 .only difference is im trying to work online full-time so I can be sure I get money in frequently. Worst mistake I made was to travel on money I saved without getting any money in. It cut my holiday short and wasn't very enjoyable. that's one thing I've learned while traveling . And im like you very down to earth if I have food place to sleep and work out... im happy. Use to drink a lot but now I barely drink. All the best 😎
They can be an annoyance for sure. When I first moved to Thailand I was always getting bitten, now not so much. If you put the spray on they will leave you alone but only put it on when they are unavoidable.
we rented a house with 2 bedrooms, large living room and kitchen. with outside seating which was great. we paid 3000B for one month. it was 20 minutes south of pattaya
@@thethairishsun if you travel outside the tourist spots, it is about a third of the price. Was at the market in Pattaya where a shirt cost 150B in Sattahip it cost 50B. My advice to anyone who will be in Thailand for a month or more is to stay in a regular residential area. you save about 60%. a bus to pattaya costs 20B
Hi nice info, will be in samui dec 4. For one month then off to hua hin. For one month. Looking for somewhere to retire next year , going to rent like you So can move about when I want. Staying in Bophut for first two weeks. Just one question what is your fav place to live hua hin or samui and why ? Buy you a beer in dec also will get a dog like you and that would be me happy walking beach everyday
Hi mate, for me Samui is the best place but you have it dead right- if you rent you can bounce around as soon as you are bored. There's a ton of fantastic places to live over here!
I think about 50k per month would allow a good lifestyle. I remember the first time I came to Thailand in 2008 the exchange rate was about 65 baht to the pound. It did feel much cheaper back then. Living on Koh Samui is probably going to be more expensive than the mainland (excluding Bangkok)? Les in Thailand seems to live a good life for 55k in Rayong.
Hi James, I totally agree- 50k would be a decent budget for almost anywhere in Thailand... But, as you say, if you ok with living in rural areas I reckon you could potentially cut it down as low as even 30k
