i am sorry, but i must counter. the grocery cost won't be representative (not even close) for most of the households. for a 4 person household it's around 1000 euro. transportation is 30 per adult person per month which is really cheap but still not 30 fir the household as for the car insurance, you are refering only to mtpl. however, if you own a tesla, casco would cost you 2k yearly even with 50% bonus you are not mentioning clothing, hairdresser, public tv in my opinion, a more realistic figure is 3.5k eur monthly, but it can easily go over 4
@KhyatiPuria
@KhyatiPuria 7 месяцев назад
No need to be sorry. Feedback is healthy! It really depends on the preferences. Before we had kids we spent more on groceries than today. We spent a fortune on meat in the past. Now it’s more vegetables and fruits which are luckily much more affordable! Especially if you buy seasonal. We use public transportation occasionally, so we also don’t have an annual or monthly card. We pay for single trips. Vollkasko for a Tesla costs currently around 95€ / month at Wüstenrot. But we calculated only Haftpflicht because that’s a mandatory car expense. Correct we skipped extraordinary costs like hairdresser,… will make sure to give a more detailed overview next time! Thanks for the feedback!

I agree, especially for the groceries & all the left out misc. expenses for a family.

I totally agree. In addition, we should always estimate a yearly budget for vacations, weekends etc. Also petrol expenses per month. I agree with 3500 per month and of course you need more in order to leave something in the bank. So I would say around 5000 to have a good quality life.

6th district every Saturday on the naschmarkt. Vintagerie, in nelkengasse, die glasfabrik next to westbahnof. If you want clothing options, plenty of those throughout the city, called humana or in the 6th too there's one called polyklamott. Vintage dresses you can find at the fräulein kleidsam. Just a few, and skipp the first district. Vienna happens around it

@KhyatiPuria Hello! I am VERY interested in exploring the healthcare costs. I was born and raised in the US but I am now a new Austrian citizen under 58c and after visiting Vienna for almost 2 months, I decided I want to relocate permanently to Vienna or the nearby area in the not too distant future. I am a family of 4 (Wife, Daughter and Son but Daughter is now in University but still living with us since her campus is local, fortunately). As I understand it, private insurance may cost me up to 500 euros a month (depending on medical questions - I am over 50) AND coverage does not begin until after 6 months! So that is about 3000 euros and a 6 month wait! But what if I get sick inside of that 6 months? How much will medications cost? What if I am diabetic or have high blood pressure and need maintenance drugs? How much will I pay for those meds until the insurance kicks in? What if I get injured in an accident, need an ambulance and / or break a bone? Will I be bankrupt by all this? Coming from America, healthcare costs are a VERY real concern for me. I also need to know if my family is covered or do they each pay a fee for 6 months as well? After the insurance kicks in, do I pay co-pays or is there a deductible that has to be paid up first? For me, this is the most important topic when I come to live in Austria. I may not have a job right away but I will still need healthcare right away and as such, I must know what all the costs are so that I can budget for it and hope that I can still afford to move there. Obviously, I realize it would be best to line up a job before coming so that I am already on the public healthcare right away. But I assume the reality is that most companies will not want to wait for you to relocate or help you relocate so I may very well need to move to Austria first and then look for a job. This will put me at risk until I can obtain health care insurance and get my maintenance medications covered. ÖGK did tell me that there is a treaty with the US and Austria where after I have worked for over 1 year in Austria, my US Social Security will be recognized in Austria where I can stay on the public system after I retire. I am also covered by a double-tax treaty (The US actually taxes its citizens world-wide, no matter where they live but the double tax treaty covers you until anything you make past around 110K / year).

Depending on how much you earn up to 55%. But then you earn above a million. A 70k brutto position however, which is realistic for a lower management position in some areas, means you would pay about 33 to 35k of taxes.

the housing costs in most districts are not 1200-20%= € 1000,- for a 2 bed appartment, thats definitely not true. Its far cheaper in most districts. you should definitely not sum up your expensive costs from online ordering to normal living costs. if you cook it by yourself, you need less money and you have a better quality in food.

I am a native Viennese. Typically, 400 - 500 € a month for a single room of 10 to 15 sqm (approx. 110 to 160 sqft). You can google it, the term for shared apartment is "Wohngemeinschaft". "Wohngemeinschaft in Wien gesucht" will show you plenty of results. If there is a "Kaution", which can be about 1.000 €, that means a bail.

Especially in Vienna, the rate of unemployment and poverty is high in comparison to the rest of Austria.
