I mean it kinda makes sense you gatta spend hours learning the move set just to defat them so I guess it does make a little sense why after defeating them you would be able to use there weapon lol
@darkwulf4862 True but tarnished does have his own equivalence to morgotts iconic moves The hammer- Gavel of Haima Spear attacks - Carian greatsword and Carian piercer Knives- awell the tarnished has their own knifes
For those who don't know, it's because Ashes Of War, in lore, are said that they hold the memories of their previous wielders. That's why the Tarnished is able to just pick up everything and use highly complicated, multi-step signature attacks.
@@SnailSnail-lo4pm "Experimental firearm brought to the assault on Volcano Manor, where it was discovered that no one knew how to use it." I assume nobody *there* knew, but someone has to, at the very least, the person who made the actual thing shold.
Now that’s funny😂. The original joke in the short makes no sense, it’s like he doesn’t understand what’s happening in the game. Nice job polishing his turd into a legit meme.
Literally came to say the same thing, like he what? Knew how to do every ash of war with the same button? Lol I'm waiting to see how phantom blade zero's combos are gonna work. THAT shit seems like it's gonna be hard to master
Yh I mind when rivers of blood was completely broken people would only spam the wa lmao I still see it happen every now and then and give them a point down when I beat them lol

@@chandlerrodriguez367 apparently it was an offering to the god (the eyeball on his stomach) so that he could be stronger to fight you in phase 2, could be wrong tho
I believe that the idea is that we are effectively channeling the memories of battle in the weapon, hence they are called ashes of war. That would also explain why you can’t do something like perform waterfowl dance on any katana, only on Malenia’s katana that has memories of performing the waterfowl dance.
And even so its only a single move the tarnished can copy or use, if he really was such a genius he would use all of the bosses moves, imagine the tarnished moving like Morgott, it would be so cool. Honestly he has the most flashy combos on the game for me
Canonically the tarnished also raged war in the badlands as queen Marika says "where you shall fight and die, and when the time is right you shall be awakened by the call of grace back to the lands between" so that's where the basic attack patterns come from but the weapon arts are like memories engraved into the blade itself so when you hold the weapon you gain the ability to use the weapon art as the memories of the ability get transfered to you allowing you to use it to its fullest extent
It takes a lifetime to master a blade but even if you did, those skills wouldn't automatically teach you how to use two giant ass mallets as nun chucks instantly. Magic would be a better explanation honestly.
@@blackhand441Consider the deeper meaning of memory. Not just simple recollection of an event, but muscle memory, habit, and coordination. Remembering how it feels, not just how it looks. The memory becomes your own. A clever writer in a fantasy setting can easily say these more visceral aspects of memory are transferred to the wielder of a storied weapon, in which case familiarity and proficiency would come instantly. The wielder's past has just been effectively rewritten such that they've always known how to do it.
@@blackhand441 But nobody in Elden Ring masters their weapons. Look at all of these clowns telegraphic every single attack, using wide overswings and idiotic crap like that weeb draw cut. They'd die in less than 5 seconds against somebody who ACTUALLY knows how to use a historic melee weapon xD
Exactly! Kind of literally the entire storyline - gaining strength through runes. How can someone participate in something for 50-100 hours and not pay attention to ANYTHING going on 😂😂😂.
Huh, interesting point actually. I never realized that ashes of war were like muscle memories imbued into the weapons that we use and thus can pick up on the arts. I watch lore videos in elden ring and not one of them mentioned this so that's actually a really good point 👌
@@deathweeler8028 right. Weapons not imbued with the memories of those powerful warriors should stand to reason as being more flexible. Also, by carrying the memory taken from a powerful weapon the Tarnished can implant them via the whetblades. Example might be taking the technique from Nagakiba and putting it into an uchigatana. It's like teaching Yuras technique to the uchi. Should the weapon be taken by a new Tarnished it will grant them access to the technique also. Same would go for an axe and frost stomp
y’all sleeping on Godfrey fr fr. Bro gets stronger without his weapons. He has a style the tarnished cannot copy and that is “ They Divine Art of Throwing Hands”
And remember, most of the bosses are somehow connected to the divine... While you're some random person who was told to piss off until they needed someone to break the stalemate.
They told you to piss off because you have slain the fire giants, raya sorcerers and dragons before, and they were afraid you'd destroy them too. That's why Godfrey and his warriors became the tarnished.
To be fair as a tarnished your characters history is one of war as well. Tarnished were sent off from the Lands Between to rage war else where and that’s presumably where our tarnished originally died before the grace revived us. Can assume from there that we were a above average tarnished warrior
We exist in a layer above their definition of divine since our universe created their " gods " they never truly stood a chance because they're fictional and we created their universe .
No es así, el Tarnished es un elegido por la gran voluntad de los 2 dedos, por ende fuiste bendecido, asique no sos solamente alguien común. La voluntad de la gracia te hace inmortal, con las runas incrementa tu poder
I know how this is going to come out but it’s easier than it looks. Once you see her go up all you gotta do is run away. Then when she goes to do the second part you roll into her then do that again and your s will carry you. I was shocked when I first did it 😂 practice makes perfect (I suck at this game btw)
I learned how to dodge Waterfowl after the 2nd time of getting hit by it lol it's really not hard to dodge idk why everyone has so much trouble with her. I had more trouble with Maliketh.
If I remember correctly that’s because they’ve lost the favor of malenia and the erd tree and we tarnished are currently receiving it’s blessing of immortality
@@pig4795 in that case I couldn’t tell you for sure I only recently started playing. I’d wager maybe it has something to do with the true death or whatever have you and Renna speaks of and the black flame assassins utilize? Or maybe it’s just gameplay mechanics, who knows
@@pig4795 (SPOILERS AHEAD) The way Tarnished die in Elden ring is very iffy. I always wonder why Gideon, Godfrey, and the Dung Eater die once and stay dead meanwhile we can keep respawning over and over again. I think that just comes down to balancing gameplay over lore. In the lore, the Tarnished are continuously resurrected until they lose the guidance of grace (the “gold in their eyes”) (this might explain why Gideon and Godfrey die when they do, basically at the ends of their ropes and with grace preferring us over them, and why Blackguard Boggard will also die immediately in the Dung Eater’s quest, as he doesn’t have the guidance of grace) at which point they stay dead and are to be buried so the Erdtree’s roots may reach them. Tarnished are usually undying because the Erdtree feeds off their struggle, which keeps the Golden Order afloat. Grace’s guidance chooses the Tarnished who would attempt to become Elden Lord (again why guidance chooses us over Godfrey and Gideon, leaving them with a final death) as their suffering will be the greatest of all, and will feed the Erdtree the most. I hope that helped and wasn’t too confusing!
@@evil_planner Basically the "Greater Will" makes it worse for itself, as our intention is undefined, while Gideon and Godfrey had pretty much nothing But i guess that's just Marika going against the Gerater Will stuff And she doesn't care if she's gonna die in the process apparently
and they are all rotted/crazy/both/injured malenia is using fucking metal hands and legs, she doesn't even has eyes when we met her even thr fire giant must be nerfed by an injury at the leg to let us kill it
The ones going all out at full power is Godrick, Mogot, Mohg, Maliketh, Rykard, Horalou, and the Elden Beast maybe, I've even heard an argument that it was weakened because the Elden Ring wasn't whole though.
@@TheOtherGreyKnightactually Morgott wasn’t at full power, he uses some oh his power to maintain illusions of himself across Limgrave and Altus not to mention he didn’t actually use the power of his great ruin.

The chosen one of every game is the real scary one out of any boss. A simple being that endlessly hunts every enemy in its path, learning the most efficient way to dispatch them and capable of learning every form of fighting art, miracle, and sorcery.
List of our non official super powers (non exhaustive) : - Can learn any skill, weapon or spell in a flash - can resurrect - becomes invulnerable to any attacks when rolling for a brief moment - can teleport between graces - can consume runes to boost stats
The tarnished (plural) are all descendants of Hoarah Loux. They were warriors who were divested of grace, exiled, went to other lands to wage war and die. Our character fought countless wars and learned to use all weapon types before being resurrected and welcomed back into the Lands Between. What makes our tarnished actually good with specific weapons is the player :)
Well yeah, I mean, who else would be able to wake up one day and suddenly decide to go on a crusade, killing kings, legends, knights, gods, monsters, and warriors alike. It’s like how the main character of every FPS suddenly knows how to fire every gun, as well as how they can handle the recoil and the sound. They’re just…chosen.
In defense of FPS games like CoD it's not uncommon for soldiers to get cross-trained with different weapons especially like squad weapons. Enemy weapons being used aren't uncommon, either, especially in modern wars. And special forces specifically tend to have interests in these weapons and US civilians have access to weapons similar in fundamentals which translate into military variations. This isn't to say that a person can and is going to pick up and perfectly operate a gun they find randomly, but they usually can get it to work rather easily. Swords are weirder in that it takes lots of skill to master the minute movements and biomechanics behind attacks.
What those guys said, while in some fs games, you are some hobo, (ds1 and 2 atleast, cuz in ds3 you have some experience from when you tried to link the fire and failed) and in ER you are an exiled/foreigner, depending on your starter class
Even just being a civilian sport shooter, once you know how to use a single weapon it usually takes very little time on a new weapon system before you can use it, aside from things like belt-fed machine guns since they need a specific order and method to reload.
This is even better with the Jar Cannon. Thr description tells us that basically the soldiers fighting Gelmir would be giving an extremely powerful weapom to turm the tides of battle. When they got the weapon... They had no clue what they were looking at and couldnt use it
That actually makes sense, since that’s why Jin is such a powerful swordsman. He’s able to learn through watching others and adapt to their style (like with the mongols) or can copy their movements (like the mythical moves). I mean if he couldn’t do all that, he probably wouldn’t have saved Tsushima.
@@Erra_Mortisit is just a really fast triple swing. Almost replicable with a real human swordsman, but obviously not as great as with video game physics. No supernatural things in Ghost of Tsushima happen, other than equippable charms, that can't be somewhat explained away by coincidental weather phenomena and/or drug hallucinations.
AND she was blind. Malenia is what happens when you take the bow away from Gough from DS1 and give him the power of anime. That dude could track you with his ears better than a mother could with an AirTag
@@thalmorjusticiar1 Ok, we enter a grey area here. So, there is this common theory that she is actually blind since there seems to be rot completely covering her eyes. It is true that she theoretically could see through all that rot and probably has the eyesight of a rhinoceros. It has not been confirmed, and I don't remember any lore piece talking about her being blind. But most people "agree" that she is blind and the theories of her being blind are pretty sound so I choose to believe it
I just tried to fight him at level 450ish and NG+3 and decided I'd try to fight him the normal way. I was getting absolutely bodied trying different weapon combinations 😆 🤣 I did finally manage to beat him after 6 or 7 times. He was just hitting me for half to 3/4 of my health. Wish my mimc tear summon fought like him lol.
@@austinhart2307 I cheesed the mimic tear once, I was in the dungeon before consecrated snowfield and fighting through it exhausted all my flasks, and I was on a sliver of health, but I knew there was a mimic tear as the boss so I did what any sane person would do and that is unequip my weapons so the mimic doesn’t fucking kill me. I guess I’m not fit to be elden lord despite 100%’ing the game solo because I pulled that stunt.
@@SPEED_IS_K3Y I think we’re thinking of two different things.. I’m saying when they use the skill it’s much more destructive than when we use it. Waterfowl from Malenia does like 3000 dmg. We do it and it’s like 350…
I like to think that the reason the bosses have unique abilities and the weapon we get is different from the moveset the boss uses is because we only have base level proficiency with said weapon. We use it for 5 minutes, cause a Richter 0.5. Godfrey uses it for 30 years, causes a magnitude 3.
I forget the wording but I like the way someone described the difference between scary and horror. Scary is big and loud it chases you and wants to kill you. Horror is quiet and seemingly frail, but it is *always* there and it doesn’t care about you.
What most people don't understand is that in ER we're not using a random tarnished, we're the chosen by the grace, wich makes us immortal + we have the power to channel the battle experience into strengthening our body (levelling up thanks to the maiden). Since the beginning we're destined for greatness and most NPCs realize this the moment we meet them.
As a proud member of the magic gang, I have never held a weapon (on my first playthrough). Real magic gang dual wield staffs and blast your ass back to back
@@avaluggglazer445I also used moonveil with a staff for most of my first playthrough and ofc mimic tear. Then I started a strength build my 2nd and realized I was playing the game on extra easy mode and had the true dark souls experience.
If you think about it the protang dies countless times, always on the edge of losing their minds, but getting stronger each time. We’ve had just as much time as them to learn, the bosses haven’t died once, yet we’ve died countless times in the pursuit of strength
I always justified it to myself that when you get a 'weapon', you're getting a manifestation of the original wielder's soul as a weapon, and wielding it imparts their experiences with it. That's why you only replicate the user's moves when wielding the weapon, why you can't pick up random physical weapons on the map and only get them from soul items on the ground, and finally why you can take a boss's unique soul and turn it into their weapon.
Godrick forced himself to learn with a new body and had to train himself to harness the power of the winds, yet he was still in the progress of growth when we showed up
After beating the main game and the DLC I sat there and deeped it, the tarnished is quite literally a beast. Casually just slays gods. And most commendable of all, rune bears and royal revenants
It could be argued that the tarnished can't use the weapons of these demigods as effectively as them. Like the grafted dragon of godrick, the death greadsowrd of maliketh and many more. I think he needs more time with those weapons
To be fair, it feels like you wouldn’t want to practice with a weapon infused with Scarlet Rot, Blackflame, or Destined Death any more than you absolutely needed to. Don’t want any training accidents.
The Tarnished barley knows how to use the true power of these weapons. Reminder: Radahn can cast sorceries out of his swords Godfrey can indefinitely keep his Regal Roar active Maliketh can cast incantations out of his blade Etc
@@TradedSoul I'm talking about Maliketh bozo. One of the incantations he uses can be used with Black knife's ash of war and the other is both the AOW for his sword and an incantation.
