It's great to see a band not take themselves too seriously and have a good time poking fun at themselves. "Spirit of Radio" is one of their anthems, and for them to lampoon it with a polka, disco, and country versions is funny and says a lot about the character of Geddy, Alex, & Neil.
Everything Neil does in this is pure gold.... from the "Jesus, Mary and Joseph!" to the crossing himself when Alex farts, to really digging Disco... makes me laugh every single time.
Best band ever. There guys have been friends for 40+ years, nobody can deny the chemistry between them. It’s no surprise that this musical trio sound so HUGE. That’s the magic of FRIENDSHIP 🥺
ah, don’t remind me... god, i’d do anything for them to tour one last time. hell, even do one last show. i’d pay anything, go anywhere.. (haven’t seen them live ever - didn’t become a fan till this year, actually - so it’s pretty sad for me lol)
I feel so incredibly bad for you. Not as bad as if you had never discovered them but the timing is epically awful. I seriously keep hoping that the band realizes that they have left all of us without closure. Even if they don't want to tour one last time maybe they will do a residence in NYC or Vegas or LA or Toronto. I'll fly anywhere and go to several shows. I never had the money or time in the last twenty years to see them; I have both now and I'd use it. Their shows are like listening to the studio versions of their songs- they never recorded anything they couldn't play live. That is one of the most amazing things about Rush.
John Malloy sigh. yeah. guess i’ll have to be happy with what’s available on youtube and dvds. nowhere near the real concert experience though. if neil’s the main stick in the mud here i’m hoping maybe alex & geddy’ll do little one-offs or something.
LOVED Neil with his arm/finger in the air getting his disco on during the "disco portion" -had me cracking up! And the country version just had me rolling my eyes and laughing!! RIP Professor, you are sorely missed by so, so many...
How can anyone with a brain and a sense of humor not love this band? Fourteen thumbs down morons I guess. Thank you Alex, Geddy and last - but certainly not in the least - Neil. May your music forever echo into eternity. Long Live RUSH!!!!!!!!
I saw signals tour in front row center. I watched Neil Peart the whole time with my jaw hanging to the floor. Amazing show, glad I got to see them a few times. Never forget them.
I went to their New Years Eve concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens 3 years in a row in the late 70s. Usually on the floor about 5 to 10 rows back. Lineup was usually Rush , Triumph & Max Webster. With an opening act of either Nash the Slash or another band. One year it was Chilliwack , we booed them of the stage & the lead singer mooned us. Lmao. Sweet Memories. 🇨🇦👍🍺
An Epoch has been reached, an end and a beginning. The end of a life is the beginning of a legend. We have walked with greatness and have been cast down. Rest in Peace Neal, we hardly knew Ye.
Parody is one of the best forms of humor, and how they did this with one of their greatest songs was masterfully done (Polka, Disco and Country versions of The Spirit Of Radio had me rolling). This is classic. These guys are gifted and serious musicians, and at the same time they are goofy and the best of friends - genuine and real - which is why Rush was around for more than four decades. Alex (the goofy one), Neil (the serious one), and Geddy ("lukewarm water" - to quote Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap). I have loves these guys since the late '70s. Their music will forever stand the test of time and influence countless generations to come. RIP Neil. You are greatly missed.
God, I love these three Nutters, Laugh Choke Fart, They must have had a blast making this, probably took a month to film 7mins, couldn't act for laughing...... Farewell to a Dear Friend that I never met....God Bless Professor : (
These guys are great. Rock stars with a sense of humour are very rare. I love how Neal is thoroughly enjoying the disco version. Is is just me or does Neal have a striking resemblance with Tom Hanks?
Had the pleasure of seeing this tour live in Manchester (United states of Kingdom) and these moments take their long-ass gigs to another level. Great musicians, humble and humorous...RIP Neil
I was fortunate enough to make it just in time to see Rush at their Time Machine Tour (one of only 2 concerts I ever went to to see then). One of the highlights of my life.
RIP Neil. Missing your spirit on this earth so much. I just love Kyla Lee as Kugal. I love that she's in on the joke as much as her dad, Alex and Neil. Love the Pipi Longstocking pigtails. Too cute.
That was just hilarious. Those guys are just so awesome. What a great way to start off a song. The world is gonna miss their antics for sure. RIP Neil I am sure you are once again with your first wife and daughter.
I remember this opener from the Time Machine tour. Had the whole crowd laughing and going nuts during the false start of Spirit of Radio. Still can't believe I'm never gonna see them live again.
I grew up loving their music in the 70s I never pictured them being down to earth jokesters like this. Makes me love them even more. I took the stern intellectuals view of them to heart at 13. At 55 I take their humor to heart!
its 2021, and this still cracks me up. my memories of rash stretch back to 1975 when I first saw them, became a life long fan, and miss them every day....
I was at this tour, when this came on everyone went crazy lots of fun Alex has a natural comic sense of humor : the trailer park boys featured Alex Lifeson
Damn I miss these guys. That they could laugh at themselves only endeared them more their fans. I am still hopeful that Neil left some writings that Alex and Geddy will put to music. As prolific as The Professor was, there has to be something. I haven't cried in over a month, and I'm tearing up again right now. I love you guys.Thank you for everything
Geddy Lee is Jewish. His real last name is Wienrib. Both his parents are Holocaust survivors. Read lyrics to Red Sector A. That is his real daughter in video.
His Grandmother called Him Getty, instead of GARY which is HIS real name. She spoke Yiddish and had a hard time pronouncing Gary and if you think about saying Getty really fast and you can hear how she said it. God bless these guys who are very well respected in their CRAFT. I wish I knew HOW they actually got the music, lyrics and the tempo to come together and ALIVE. You think about playing 1 instrument, not hundreds, then working with different sounds, mix it up into a BLASTING song that becomes legendary.
I had no idea that his parents are survivors. Gary Weinrib just doesn't sound right but there it is. Nothing changes about the songs, the lyrics, the devotion to musicianship and legitimacy. Spirit of the Radio neatly encapsulates the mission of the band. 40+ years of not being salesmen.
Geddy and Alex are great comic actors!! maybe there is a post-Rush alternative career there. There are so well loved as people already, just casting them in comedic movies would create a buzz.
Tremendous And the guys are having fun, although Alex loves that suit Remember watching this live ... love Rush Gutted by the news of Neil Listening to every album, live album, bootleg I have through the rest of January RIP Professor, you are a legend Sir
This is priceless! The best of The Epic Trio from The Great Country of Canada! So humble. Just doing what they liked to do together. Keep it complicated. If people enjoyed the music, so much the better. We continue to do so. Thank You RUSH. I am genuinely confident that all of us continue to think of Mr. Peart everyday! PEACE
I love, love, love music, almost every kind and variety, thousands of styles, can listen forever. But Rush is the only music I've ever heard that is so beyond good, it actually hurts. It is almost too good to listen to, sometimes my heart can't take it.
Ricardo Castillo I feel that. Rush just hits different than any other song, or genre. Yes is another band I listen to excessively sometimes. Any band that makes you feel that way...
So fantastic. I binge watch this a few times a week. When Alex coughs and then Farts !!!! Omg. Neil says “ A bunch of crap !!!” But he does comment that Books are good .!!!! This should be shown before any concert,no matter who is playing . Absolutely a classic . The fun they must have had doing this together . Oscar winner . God bless the 3 of them
I've known these guys through their music since the age of 12 (1980). So many moments celebrating life with their music as the soundtrack to each of my stages to manhood. I will miss "the new guy" with great fondness and reverence. Thank you, Rush, for many years of inspiration.
To say we love their music is an understatement. But watching the boys showcasing their sense of humor and not taking themselves so seriously is just as awesome.
Love their acting chops too! RUSH played in Nashville at Municipal Auditorium during their "Grace Under Pressure" tour ca. '85(?) Midway through the concert, Geddy Lee announced that in honor of being in Nashville, the band had worked up a country music song. The audience erupted in a deafening din of "Booooos!" and we were denied what surely would have been an entertaining performance. I have always resented such narrowmindedness. I wonder if it would have been akin to "Spirit of the Country Radio" featured in this vignette? I will never know, sadly.
Rush movie. Neil/Tom Nanks, Geddy/ Adrien Brody, and Ale/Val Kilmmer. But seriously all of the vids that have been posted of late have been a celebration of Neil Peart🤙
I love everything that these gentlemen represent, including of course their music. the BEST songwriters unrivalled band cohesion and not bad musos either
Fun to watch this again. Alex is a great actor! Love that Neal does the cross when Alex is dying and love that Alex rips on him about books being dumb. So good
