I think the golden temple operation was a badly planned operation made at the spur of the moment. Whoever finalised the army taking action against bhindrawale was not a cold blooded thinker. Otherwise special forces would have been used or intelligence operatives to surround and infiltrate the golden temple and capture the govt's opponents within the temple. It was an emotionally charged decision making process at delhi. The lack of meticulous planning at army hqs or at western command and the state police headquarters showed in the results obtained. Basically it was a comedy of errors. A series of events happened and were mismanaged. Though everything is in the past, i would say there is something to learn from it for the home ministry and defence forces of india. Since the defence ministry is not a professional organisation its no use including it in the matter. The bluestar operation was carried out with brute force, at the spur of the moment and in a rushed manner. The next operation at the golden temple was better planned and executed

Maharaja Ranjit Singhs corporate face was hindu muslim sikh..but In order to achieve militaristic expansion he relied on his hardcore khalsa army remnants of 12 misls reshaped from Tarna Dal Buddah Dal Nihungs India. He also recieved help from kashmiri pundits who looked at future to decide good time & day. His army sealed off western passes of todays Pakistan Punjab & Persia through a set of bunker posts. When Britain took control 1847+..They open border posts to let migrant persians in to baby boom with local shia women. By 1941 muslim league west british india demanded pakistan.in lahore session. Britain hastily agreed pressurised by potential German ww2 looming in a deal muslim league would send soldiers to europe. 1946 jinnah calls daybof action targetting sikhs & hindus. 1947 pakistan created with nearly 70% of ranjit singhs landmass, muslim league activists rioters target sikhs forcing 50% of entire sikh populace with hindus to relocate to india. Leaving behind 356 gurdwaras Both hindus & sikhs owned 42% lahore outright. All gone. Technically legally landmass of ranjit singh ( pakistan punjab) should either have been transfered to Buddah Dal Tarna Dal India who sacrificed from 1700s for it, or given to Captain amarinder singhs dynasty as thats where ranjit singhs 50% bloodline came out of. I would say the whole system of having Rs 60000 crore elections every 5 years led to the politics behind operation bluestar and its aftermath. The notion of democracy as the best system of governance in a superlarge country like india is one of the best examples of stupidity. Firstly we follow a sham democracy in the sense that the electorate in a parliamentary or assembly or city or panchayat constituency does not select its own candidates because of the laziness of the electorate or/and browbeating by political groups. Then there are various matchfixing issues in the electoral process by the middleman conducting the elections from the scrutiny/rejection of the nomination papers to the electioneering to the counting and declaration of votes. Not only the 1st middleman ie the eci but also the 2nd middleman ie the supreme court or high courts don't work impartially in a a timebound manner in case of electoral malpractices or allegations by the vanquished or the citizenry. The cost of having untrained gaggle or mob of people who change partially every few years leads to severe repercussions in the management cost to the nation where even simple mistakes at the minister level have caused gargantuan losses and steadily declining governance. The steadily increasing inflation, increase in politically motivated false cases against opponents, increase in criminals as political representatives, increase in number of ministries and minister equivalents and other malpractices have to be factored in for evaluating the democratic process vis a vis other forms of governance like a monarchy or dictatorship practiced in the west where a coterie of courtiers run the govt thru the backdoor
