The Real Life Burning Man... (Auroville)

The biggest reason I came to India was to visit Auroville and make this video so you all can learn about this bizarre experimental community. It's like burning man on steroids.
I seriously cannot believe what I just experienced. A town of complete unity and togetherness, with 3,000+ residents who come from 57 countries around the world. A cashless society that has no religion, no laws and a 0% crime rate. A place where anything is possible, and encouraged, with the most laidback lifestyle I've ever seen.
This is the real life Burning Man... and it's been around since 1968!
Have you ever heard about Auroville? What are your thoughts about it?
Instagram @drewbinsky. Thank you Michael (IG @affinityadventure) for the shots & edits.
PS - This video probably won't get the most views, but I had the most fun shooting it and putting this story together. I love telling unique stories, such as Auroville, which are happening around our world. If you have thoughts or comments on Auroville, please share below! I will be reading them all :)

Our school is under the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, every year the class 7 students are taken to Auroville, it is the most beautiful place I've ever been to. Especially the Matrimandir, not only is it a marvel to look at, the inner chamber is so peaceful and serene, the silence is deafening. Extremely underrated, more people should visit it. The local saying goes, "If the Mother and Sri Aurobindo want you in Auroville, nothing can stop you from coming to Auroville!"

India was mildly Fabian socialist (or as Indians call it Nehruvian socialist) until 1991 when poverty and high debt forced it to liberalize its economy by IMF. Now, India is getting progressively more capitalist every year and has been growing at a rapid pace with massive poverty reductions (220 million people out of poverty since 1991 according to World Bank estimates). Shifting from quasi-democractic socialism to liberal capitalism is the best thing has India done in the recent history. It's almost like a new independence

They don't have religion but it surely is a Hindu Yogi way of life not Communism I mean aurobindo was nationalist himself That which we call the Hindu religion is really the Eternal religion because it embraces all others. To listen to some devout people, one would imagine that God never laughs. 2 of 2 India of the ages is not dead nor has she spoken her last creative word; she lives and has still something to do for herself and the human peoples. Spirituality is indeed the master key of the Indian mind; the sense of the infinitive is native to it. Yogi aurobindo Ghosh

@sourav3199

It was Mirra Alfassa AKA Sree Maa who established Auroville. The idea of Auroville was actually to create a commune on a spiritual(force-free and thus it's not an ashram) and universal basis.The term spirituality here means is to feel one's true existence free from every pre-concieved ideas of nationality or anything which makes it universal. If one go through sree maa's association with venerable J Krishnamurthy he'll find that She was deeply inclined towards Buddhist philosophy.

I can confirm that auroville is amazing, I live in chennai so it's very close by, and when I went there it was very different from any other place in india. they have their own figures that they worship, and you rarely see cars, there are not many brands that are there throughout the rest of India but they have their own private shops that are only in auroville, I recommend the bakery bread and chocolate. I saw the Maatri Mandir from the outside but unfortunately I wasn't allowed in due to the fact that I wasn't from auroville and also the place is very diverse, most people there speak french but you can also find germans and sometimes austrians.

I was fortunate to visit in 1988 on a youth project, it changed my life. Since I returned home I have spent my life devoted to helping others in one way or another. I just wished every country in the world had an auroville.

Drew, I'm from Pondicherry (the city where auroville is located). Whatever you saw and heard from these people is not 100% true. Crimes often happen here and is not safe to live there. Check out the local newspapers for more info.

@@bckstrm1897 if Kerala were an independent country, it would be bankrupt and in a war zone now like every other communist countries. There isnt any literally any good ecnomic zone in kerala which can employ their own people. Thats why keralites flock to UAE, SAUDI and to rest of India, they dont understand the fact that kerala govt is thriving because it is inside a capitalist country and Kerala comunnity is prosperous because of capitalism.
