A 3 year trade war has created corporate casualties in both US and China. In China, a dual circulation model is now underway to mitigate the effects of US protectionism. In the US, a Biden administration mulls new economic measures against China, even as industry groups lobby for tariffs to be lifted. Both countries also brace for what used to be unthinkable- the possibility of a financial war.

Look, the problem is that US did not even lose anything...their GDP was booming together with China. But US kept on making mistakes...Financial Crisis, recessions, and unnecessary military spending on continued war efforts....and this resulted in China overtaking them in growth. However, even with these mistakes, US economy as whole (measured in GDP) had a steady growth and almost doubled over the past generation from 2001 to date. I mean sure the poverty level is rising because of rapid technological changes and surge in big tech giants...but when they "China is cheating and damaging US economy"... the statement is false starting from "damaging economy". Their economy is booming...just not for every American. Big corp and whatever the American government is spending on is booming.

America can't blame China for its problems. Businessmen will relocate their businesses to other countries where they can make more profits, it's natural. American workers demand shorter working hours, more pay, fewer working days and more benefits. Chinese workers are hardworking, loyal, disciplined and resilient. Which do you prefer?
@henrytep8884
@henrytep8884 3 года назад
I wouldn't say Chinese workers are all those things you mentioned as their main draw. At the end, they're cheap labor, and everyone prefers cheap labor lol. You trying to conflate the main reason why people moved their business to another country with those characteristics of that working population is just patently false and misleading. Big business desire cheap labor, this is the basis of capitalism, the owning class wants to purchase the cheapest labor with the highest skill, while the working class would like to do the least amount of work for the most pay. That is the basis of the capitalism. You're an idiot if you think the chinese workers would put up with their working condition for a long time, in the short-run it works, but not in the long run. Why do you think they have suicide nets at at the Foxconn factory? That isn't a result of a hardworking, loyal, disciplined and resilient work force, that's a sign of the owner class extracting as much productivity from their mule.

But if you think for a second that US companies will relocate back to US soil because of that then u are sorely mistaken. They will keep looking for other countries with cheap labor to produce their products, and what will America do then? In truth, America benefited tremendously from trade with China. As proof, one just needs to point to the tremendous number of new American billionaires created during the two decades between 2000 to 2020. It is the American government which failed Americans who lost out during the course of bilateral trade. How? By keeping taxes on the rich low, and protecting industries that burdened the poor. and the middle class. By protecting the healthcare industry and allowing them to charge exorbitant fees and drug costs, they aided US healthcare capitalists on the sick. Almost two thirds of those in the middle class who slipped into poverty cited a health crisis as the factor responsible. Blackrock, armed with funds placed in their hands by rich Americans, swept up whole swathes of residential properties and once they controlled a sufficient part of the housing supply, they jacked up rents, contributing to working people no longer being able to afford the rent, and the ranks of the homeless in America exploded partly as a result.

Sarah Lande and family, who hosted President Xi Jinping, are the kind of Americans who impressed many leaders in the government of China. Even the former Ambassador to the US from China, Cui Tiankai said he was impressed by the US when he was studying there and later started to work there. And it is not just them; many ordinary Chinese citizens are also impressed and want to learn from US and other western first world countries. The impact has been great because China eventually managed to carry out many reforms and made China what it is today. With the US-China exchanges in different fields and industries, the world could have benefited from this as well. However, things started to take a drastic turn during the Obama administration with its "Pivot to Asia" policy. That was when tension in the South China Sea began to heat up and "freedom of navigation" become more frequent. Then the US-China relationship has been going downhill ever since. The US has been demonising China non-stop ever since with false accusations about Xinjiang, Tibet and raising up tension in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Even Japan is using this opportunity to boost its military strength and trying to alter the Pacifist Consitution by using the "China threat" as an excuse. The good and deep impression of US and the western world among the leaders and citizens in China, in general, have now become corroded by all these actions of the West in general, especially the US. Is that how the world like this to be? Is that how the Americans and people in the West like this to be?

Unfortunately, poisoned by the lies and distortions of people like Adrian Zenz and ETIM,many westerners have a terrible misconception of the Uyghur situation in China. The truth is first, they are Chinese citizens and as such they learn Chinese in order to join the mainstream society, just as people in the US or other English speaking nations learn English to get on. But unlike the US or UK or Australia, Uyghurs are actually taught their own language as well in schools. What is often lost on many westerners is that Uyghur Muslims have a diametrically opposite lifestyle to many Muslims outside China. It would be wrong to say they are more liberal because they are as devoted to their religion as other Muslims. But their outlook is not the darkly puritanical and tightly legalistic type seen in many Muslim countries. Their women dress in colourful dresses and are not restricted movement or activity so they go out on their own and many had good education and careers. They often sing and dance with men, something regarded as taboo in many Islamic countries. Their men do not feel compelled to have beards or wear Arab robes or shun kufirs. There is generally none of the aversion to touching someone lest they are "unclean" menstruating woman or an unbeliever who is "haram". So their have much more open society than most Muslim communities. But this lifestyle was threatened by murderous jihadists from foreign countries and Uyghurs who had been influenced by them. Terrorists acts were committed by these people to destabilise Uyghur society. Had it been successful, do you think the unique Uyghur way of life would not be changed into something resembling that of Saudi Arabia or Brunei? Women would be forced to wear burqas and only allowed out if they had a make guardian accompanying them, etc. Arabic would displace Uyghur as the language of education. China is actually protecting the Uyghurs' traditional way of life, while allowing them to evolve into modernity. But Xinjiang IS part of China, and all this has to take place in the context of China's national plan of development and laws. It would be foolish to think it can be otherwise.

CNA did a great job on presenting the issues and problems we have today between the US and China. The problem is what the lady at the end of the video said about developing our own strengths to compete. It is clear that the US government doesn't see China in those terms. As the hegemon of the world, it sees itself as the ruler of the world and makes rules that benefits itself and makes other subservient. Clearly, the US sees China as an economic threat and in particular, a technological threat. It has weaponized IP and imposes tariffs to degrade China's economic and commerce position. It's last hurrah is in technology, but herein lies a problem for the US, it is expending too much energy throwing sand into China's rise that it is damaging itself more than it is with China. In particular, the war in semiconductors is having blowback and the US is losing. In 2022, American semiconductor companies lost $1.5 trillion in valuation caused by their loss of the China market, with sales and profits falling off a cliff. China is driving on steroids to be self sufficient in semiconductors as the US suppresses exports of not only semiconductors, but software and production machinery. All this has done is to accelerate China's drive to be self sufficient. Between 2020 and 2022, 30 new foundries were built in China. The fab portion of the semiconductor process has been China's weak point. In the first 7 months of 2022, China imported 43 billion chips, but exported 160 billion chips. China is producing over a billion chips a day to feed its domestic and export needs. The goal is 900 billion chips a year by 2025. Further, a study by ASPI says that China leads in 37 of 44 emerging technologies, if so, the US is losing its technology monopoly. The major reason for this, is the fact that China outproduces the manpower needed for technology. China graduates 8 times more STEM students than the US and there is now a brain drain as most Chinese students studying in US universities head home instead of staying in the US. On top of that, there is a steady flow of senior Chinese scientists, engineers, and tenured professors headed back to China because of the toxic environment in the US against Asians. Some 1400 headed back to China in 2021 and an estimated 2000 are forecasted for 2022. A survey amongst these professionals showed that 60% planned to leave the US because they fear not only for their families, but for their future. www.aspi.org.au/report/critical-technology-tracker www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2017/02/02/the-countries-with-the-most-stem-graduates-infographic/?sh=75c5c147268a cset.georgetown.edu/wp-content/uploads/China-is-Fast-Outpacing-U.S.-STEM-PhD-Growth.pdf www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-china-tensions-fuel-outflow-of-chinese-scientists-from-u-s-universities-11663866938

Hopefully, governments and people from both countries will figure out a way to get a long in a bi-lateral accepted way. The manufacturing jobs would not be back to the US even though we can force them to ignore the huge Chinese market and get out of China, which I doubt. Jobs would most likely move to Vietnam, Mexico or India if they would get out of China. There's a misconception in the West that just because China blocks these sites the Chinese will not be able to access them, when in fact it's very easy to do so through a VPN and many Chinese do use platforms like yt or insta. On the other hand, even though the US has unrestricted access to foreign sites or media, most Americans don't use them, and frankly can't even name any. So the problem isn't with blocking or restricting these services, because the Chinese, even with those restrictions, are willingly and actively looking for info from home and abroad, whereas Americans are becoming more and more parochial since most of them are only getting their news or whatever from facebook etc. Also if you are an American you're not in the best position to criticize others for having foreign military bases, and if you are not, chances are that there's a US military base in your country, so worry about that first.

Globalization is not a heated debate; it only helps a few companies and destroys millions of American families.

Well, China has almost occupied all the islands west of our country and has threatened to shoot our fishermen by their navy. Xi, of course, was once upon a time "friendly" but I guess things change, if you know what I mean. As much as I want to recognize China's emergence as a global economic power and a vital trading partner, I will not turn a blind eye on what they are doing in the west Philippine sea. Bullying smaller nations just to get ahead is just distasteful.

Accuse China currency manipulation. On the other hand, they are printing trillions every year.
