there is one huge problem in Estonia. you can't find any intriguing information in the Estonian language. literally nothing. to know what's really going on in the world behind the scenes, you have to know English, and it's annoying. I don't see any exciting questioning like... is vegetable oil actually terrible for you? like...... are milk alternatives actually a scam? does google prevent you from finding solutions to your searched problem? anything behind the scenes.... unless you know English you wont know ... only if someone shares it in Estonian... but on the internet, almost zero

As estonian who lived some years in UK and some years in Sweden I can say - you got exactly these main points. One thing I want to add. Iin Estonia is a very good level of schooling. you don't have to be in a private school for that, a regular public school is enough to get a decent education.

Yes, there are (cloudy) days in November / December when you have to keep the light on all day long, but then the snow falls and towns are noticeably lighter (streetlights reflect from snow to clouds to snow...) And eventually sun shines and suddenly whole world is blindingly white and sparkly under clear blue sky. For the acute dark-time depression God gave us planes to Egypt and Thailand. Around midsummer the sunsets last forever, you can have a BBQ admiring the sky take a nap, and at 2 am you can still take a walk without a torch. Then come the dark and soft nights of August, first colors of September... and next round of cursing the rain and hoping for white Christmas.

Even saying this as a white local, I don't think it's a major issue for a person of colour to make a successful career in Estonia. It is all about the language. Estonia doesn't have a tradition of systemic racism. If you make an effort to learn the local language and don't act like some kind of superior dick, you are fine. There is a negative example, however. There was this rather well off Indian family living in Tallinn, who were firm believers in the traditional caste system. According to their beliefs the locals were their inferiors and when the Estonians didn't act servile enough, they cried racism. Let's say they don't live in Estonia any more.

the prosperity index indicates that estonia is a highly developed country at least when compared to neighbouring countries. but that also means they are also one of the strictest countries for immigration in europe as well as the language problem of having to speak estonian, russian and english

Is there a country in the world with a population of ~1 million that easily integrates newcomers? A small country needs to preserve its identity. At the moment, we have globalists in power, which in the long term is somewhat of a threat to the survival of our nation and culture. One of the reasons for Estonia's low crime rate is that we have no gangs. Let in the immigrants who create their own communities (country within a country) and it will change, Sweden is already seeing it. At the same time, Estonia's low crime rate is also somewhat of a mystery to me. I remember a time when there were gangs in Estonia, both Russian and Estonian gangs, and there was always crime. Now you can walk around the city every night and not see a suspicious gang.
@RebekaTarn
@RebekaTarn Год назад
The time you are referring to is probably 90s. This was a hard time for all formerly soviet occupied countries. I mean, most laws had to be remade. Nearly everything broke down for a decade. The birth rate fell, divorce rate rose as well as crime. However, Estonia might just be most succesful of overcoming that compared to all other formerly soviet occupied countries. The Russians tried democracy as well and never succeeded and therefore are once more happy to have a “czar”.

Shop workers only get about €6.50 /hour which is why you see so many bosses riding around in big Mercedes and BMW's. Food prices in Estonia are the same as any EU country. Working for a couple of cups of coffee an hour is not really on so the other big disadvantage is the lack of respect for every day workers.

I am pure Estonian. My age, I am51, we start work in small family farms already 6-7 years old. You most make everything self, because of Russian occupation most crow up everything self. You friends don't say nothing about that? From first school class we build up ready kill all capitalists and hide from nuclear bombs. 😅😅😅 We already 6 years old go to Forrest pick up mushrooms and berries and sometimes sleep there. Often we made one like second home there and sit and talk and made fire and aaaa it's long story. But seriously go to swamps or Forrest or outside city! Estonians don't speak English at all outside cities, so find friends how can translate.P.S. in small villages invaders not welcome. Nothing bad, but Estonia history is only full of wars

As an Estonian, I will say for the integration, We generally do not care where you are from, what your sexuality is, etc etc. What needs to be understood is that you will be treated with suspicion if you look like you are going to approach with the intent of interacting. Also an important note for black people, the proper Estonian word is "Neeger", with the alternative being "Mustlane", however the alternative is the offensive one as it has roots in the word "Musts" meaning Dirty.
