Russia has justified the invasion of Ukraine purely as a matter of national security and a threat, according to them, from NATO. However, the economic disputes between Russia and Ukraine, always with energy, mining or food issues in between, go back a long way, specifically, 20 years ago. The country that finally controls Ukraine will have incredible economic resources to exploit over many decades: agriculture, mining, industry and also the huge amount of unexploited lithium that remains in the Ukrainian subsoil and that will serve to power millions of lithium batteries to electric cars in the future. So the question is: is this really a war for Russia's security or is it blatantly expanding the possibilities of Russia's and China's economy.
