Coach Nick went deep into the footage to figure out why the Brooklyn Nets so abruptly fired head coach Steve Nash. Was it because of Kevin Durant? Kyrie Irving? Or his inability to mesh Ben Simmons' talent with theirs?

My hot take is that KD actually prolonged Nash's time as HC. The Nets were planning to fire him anyways, but with KD saying what he did they prolonged his time so it would look like the Nets fired him due to bad early season and not KD's words. Basketball is just not his sport, he should try something else and see if he likes that. Beach volleyball maybe. Or water polo. Something with a much bigger net. Or maybe he just doesn't like sports and will be happier painting or writing fiction novels or something. Whatever he does, he obviously doesn't like basketball at all at this point. Other guys who have been injured and off the court for a long time talk about what a hell that has been for them and how ecstatic they are to play again... and Simmons definitely didn't do that.

I don't think Simmons likes basketball anymore, or he never liked it but now hates it. Simmons can definitely play a lot better on defense if he wanted to. Harden suddenly realized he will not get to play forever and wants to win a championship before retiring, but he partied too much for too many years and his ship has sailed. Yeah, good start to the season, and now predictably injured. Neither of these two can be stars on a contending team. Harden should come off the bench in limited minutes to try to keep him healthy. Simmons should retire and pursue his true passion of stamp collecting or whatever it is.

You just need to know that despite all the turmoils from the get go, the Nets initially played well under Nash, nobody was really confident 3 heavy usage players could coexist but they played really well, Harden showed a different type of game with less dribbling, Kyrie became more of a scorer, KD was helping distributing, so it’s hard to blame Nash as the scape goat when none of the “super stars” seem to care for anything other than their offensive numbers.
@smoothsavage2870
@smoothsavage2870 Год назад
This is wrong. The Nets initially played well under Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka, who were Nash's assistant coaches. When they left the team fell apart because Nash was clueless on his own. And we have clear evidence of that now.
@paduls

oh another bad take. No, Nash never utilized them well. at all. it wasn't his schemes, he was fed them. @peteraudu4554
@peteraudu4554 Год назад
It would be good for the Nets but bad for the Warriors. Draymond is an actual playmaker. So he'd take some pressure off KD with his passing in the half-court. You wouldn't be seeing KD throw the ball away because of double teams. He also has a very good IQ. Draymond sets moving screens but not as bad as Ben does in these clips. But defensively they'd still be bad because Draymond isn't the same player on that end anymore. While the Warriors get a low-IQ point guard who can't defend like he used to and refuses to shoot from anywhere on the floor. If Ben was 22 they could mold him. But he is a rookie of the year and a perennial all-star player. Which means they are getting whatever he is right now. So a horrible trade for the warriors.

No offensive and defensive schemes, no plays, all are 1 on 1, just relying on Kd/Kyrie

I don't really see how poor switching is on the coaches. If it was a college team, sure, but KD, Kyrie, Seth Curry, and so forth have all been in the game more than long enough to know how to read and communicate the floor. Even if the coaching staff was inept you'd think that these guys could at least pull off some switches.

I mean, with respect Nash always said in his interviews that he wasn't an x's and o's guy. That he was coming at this more as from an interpersonal specialist while having had Marks' friendship for 20 years.

They probably should have torn the whole thing down in the off-season. I’m a big proponent of going all-in when you get elite players, but this just wasn’t working. And thinking that it will be different without Covid or this or that is like having a baby to save a relationship. I still think Nash went to the front of the line too quickly, but all of this isn’t his fault. Probably need new ownership too. Tsai is probably a very nice man that means well, but he got pushed around way too much in this deal and ended up just making worse decisions when he tried to save face.

You can see it in the film: Simmons is not a good basketball player, and he hasn't done anything to get better. His effort is beyond lackluster. This is not rust. This is a lack of desire, and no offseason work.

the amount of people calling nash a scapegoat clues me in that alot of people dont actually watch the games and because the team is talented it's automatically the players' fault. nash has had no system in place in the 2 years he's been there, offensively nor defensively.

I'm back here to tell the people who said Nash was the scapegoat. WE WON BACK TO BACK WITHOUT NASH AND HERE'S MY TWO MIDDLE FINGERS FOR Y'ALL. Without even Kyrie and Simmons. Nash was holding back the Nets. He even held Cam Thomas. Now look at Thomas now when Nash left.

Nets problems have nothing to do with coaching. You could replace Nash with pop, Kerr or Phil and they would still be struggling. Their stars have an ego/leadership problem. Coaches can’t fix that.

Analytics finds it acceptable. KD is over 50% for long twos, an efg% the same as his threes. To sum up, closer than 10 feet is great, outside 10 feet is all average and all the same. (using % for this year)
