An example of ‘this is why we can’t have nice things’. People took the configs way too far and they had to do something else this game would have become an absolute dumpster fire. I started playing Apex in season 4 using a controller and learned MnK on it because I didn’t want to play at a disadvantage. At that point it was the superior input in every way. No tap strafing yet and no Steam. The only advantage controller players had were the strike packs and aim assist, and no one thought it was overpowered. Today, controller players have gained a huge reputation as cheaters because of these types of exploits. I agree that tap strafing should be available on controller but going further and building these types of macros would have destroyed the competitive integrity of the game and it would have further added to the issues people have and finally affected EAs bottom line.

Want tap strafe play MNK, want AA play roller. ( Don't overthinking about that )

4:50 if you are playing on console, you don't have PC player enemies. If you play on PC and decide to purposfully use controller, you are accepting to sacrifice movement for aim assist. If you choose to play on controller instead of MnK when you're on PC, because you want BOTH then you're just greedy and a cheater, since this is basically cheating. Press a button to consistently do multiple actions perfectly without any effort like neo-strafing, super glides, tap strafes, 180's etc.

It’s a good thing they got rid of it for controller. Controller gets aim assist for inhuman aim, keyboard gets movement for movement not possible for controller. Balanced as it should be.

Agree to disagree. I play both inputs pretty well. Controller still op when it matters. All the movement tech MNK players use doesn’t translate as much in games when it matters. The only thing I think is broken is AA. Hence why I stuck with roller. If it is slightly nerfed, that would be a better balance between both inputs kind of link what the finals did.

They need to make an official tap strafe layout on steam and lock the game to either that layout or regular controller layout

One of my friends got his controller to register as a mnk on steam somehow so he keeps the tapstrafing but loses aim assist. This update is kinda weird since configs aren't banned but tapstrafing is

the crazy thing is that all the other configs like the insta armour swap and insta pick up still work. its only the tap strafing thats disabled. they couldn't even fix the config problem right

while I am new to this topic on tap strafing (I'm an Xbox player) I can say that in general from the movement ability of mnk vs roller is extremely different. mnk usually has all the advantages here especially since roller players cannot tap strafe, while tap strafe is not needed it's a good mechanic to use from both sides. and we can't forget aim assist, aim assist in its own isn't needed but is extremely helpful since from my experience it is a nightmare to aim without it and I think a lot of people could agree with me, also with this I won't deny that aim assist can be a bit broken and is broken, if there is a way to lower it should be done to find a good in between to better suit the player with the mind set that's it's actually them aiming the sticks. From now they should have added a way to use tap strafing in the game menu. it would help with controller players and most likely get rid of a lot of the configs and other methods of getting the tap strafe.

This sucks. Now controller players can't strafe at all. I understand that the Steam configs as a whole are too much but we need some type of option to be able to do these advanced techs on the controller. maybe they can make the option available in the game settings.

So if there are all the benefits from playing on MnK, why do you choose to play on controller?

I’m a controller player , just wanted to say this season has been BRUTAL. I love the new changes with armor and everything, but there’s no casuals in pubs anymore. I always get squad wiped by 3 stacked masters and end up not being able to play the game. Doesn’t help the fact that everything about controller gets nerfed and mouse and keyboard remains unchanged

kinda solidfies my reason for not playing the game anymore. This was a bandaid over a bullet wound type of solution. The game will continue to inevitably die

Hot take: screw tap strafing and just give is regular air strafing instead. Better compatibility with mnk and rollers, smoother movement and less jerky motion going from mantling to super speed to an instant 180. It’s not fun to fight somebody who isn’t bound by pesky things like “acceleration” or “weight” and it’s way more accessible for all players.

Wait, I thought the whole point of controller having aim assist is because MnK can tap strafe and move and loot, so if controller with aim assist can do tap strafe and move and loot with configs, ahhhhhhhh .... now I know why even casual players were switching to roller.

As a controller player who like to play with that setting in pubs (I was never a big ranked grinder)- its whatever. Sucks I cant have as much fun with movement but, at the end of the day as far as pc goes mnk will always be on top for movement. It was only a matter of time before they decided to get rid of it

tbh apex need to reconsider the pros and cons that certain inputs have. The fact that they allow so many things to slide for mnk players but us controller players have to get the short end of the stick is crazy. especially when ever Mnk players start to complain. Mnk players ruin alot of other games for people because of the very little advantages that controller players get and its ridiculous.

you can still tap strafe on controller, but you will lose aim assist. go to steam controller setting, click on (WASD preset under "templates") bindings for controller layout and you'll be able to tap strafe. If you set (right joystick) to (joystick) = no tap strafe, but you get aim assist. If you set (right joystick) to (joystick mouse) = tap strafe, but no aim assist, for XY set to CRNL (crouch button on MnK) and Y to (1-regular press, 2-double press, 3-long hold) to swap weapons and take out melee. you need at least 2 face buttons to be keyboard settings in order to tap strafe, if you have all face (XYAB buttons as regular controller settings, you'll lose tap strafe. hope this helps and good luck. Honestly at this point im thinking about switching over to MnK since you can do so many things without having to go through the trouble of doing all this extra stuff just to get a little bit more movement mechanics LOL, controller is good for aim assist but that's really it LOL MnK is just better, this is coming from someone who played controller their whole life.

Tap staffing on controlled required you to create a steam config macro to rapidly input forward movement. It was always cheating!!!

Using 3rd party hardware/software to create macros, a form of automation, should have and should never be a part of any competitive game. I get that if everyone does it, it becomes a grey area but for competitive integrity it just makes sense that those things should be banned and considered cheating. IMO if there's going to be an input with better quality of life and functionality, it should be mnk since it's raw user input. Controllers have some big hurdles preventing them from competing with the functionality of mnk and it seems like compensating for those hurdles with strong AA seems to be the single reason controllers would ever be winning the input battle. Yes the cfg nerf is gonna hurt many players but it would be unfair to not recognize that it's been cheating other players out of their fun. I think this is a step in the right direction.

I agree with district. Configs where the only way controller players could even scratch the surface of the movement advantages that mnk has, even at that its extremely hard to master on a controller. You want to nerf tap strafing? That's fine, but do it for everyone. Ill accept it when guys like lemonhead have to walk around like controller bots also. Get rid WASD lurch! Secondly, I haven't seen the video, does anyone know that the video wasn't made by a guy that was hacking but posed it as configs? I know there are hacks that can do everything the video claimed. But I've dove pretty deep into configs and cant even begin to imagine what you would set up to do stuff like auto armor swap?? Seems to me like Apex devs should have done more homework before reacting. Ill never buy the argument that controller aim assist is so over powered and it reigns supreme over mnk. There are so many more advantages, I've always played on controller and shouldn't have to feel cheated because of my input choice.

They didn’t disable steam binds, they disabled TAP strafing only. It’s pretty dumb that they decided to remove tap strafing. The one config that WASNT a problem. People still have Jitter aim configs, people still have instant shield swap configs, people still have the configs that are ACTUAL CHEATS but they remove the only config that’s generally accepted by the majority of apex players MnK and controller alike. This was just such a dumb change and executed poorly.

I came back to the game for these changes. Now let's nerf AA. Let's be honest. The default input for PC is meant to be mouse and keyboard. If your controllers have enough of an advantage that 80% of your PC player base has switched, something is clearly wrong.

MnK players are still strafing like demons in TDM/Control. Get them off the neo-strafe (circle strafing) and super jump/glides and we can all be happy.

I don’t think anyone was complaining about tap strafing itself. Everyone was complaining about no recoil and auto neostrafe which is fair enough but removing tap strafing seems kinda strange. I wonder if it’s got to do with neostrafing

Lose most of their player base? Maybe some of their roller base, but they'll gain back much of their MnK base that left because of this. As many roller lovers have argued in the past... "Get Better"... 🤣

None of this is new. The auto armor swap has been around for 6-12 months. The auto strafing, mantle jumps, and super glides even longer. Tell me this isn’t just now becoming a known issue?

That patch they made to remove tap strafing when itztimmy did a playtest they never enabled it. Yesterday they enabled it for controller. They removed lurching after controller inputs. So making your controller fully emulate an mnk will work set your right joystick to mouse joystick in steam configs. Controller has aa because a thumb is not comparable to an entire arm with a wirst and a hand with fingers of which one of them is a thumb. Tapstrafing should not be locked to one input. That isnt "competitive integrity" Im mad at the guy that treeree posted to be honest. All the people that abused it and took it too far made me lose everything that was fun about the game. Im sad now

I still tap strafe but it’s not as as serious as the ones they had config. It’s literally configuration wa to one button and Wd to the other button under my controller. It’s safe. Never could get all the quality of m+k. 😢

What about us users that aren't using steam binds at all? I use footapaddles binded to WA and WD for left and right strafes.. Same as using a key board. Using mnk and feet works controller and feet doesn't work. this is wack af

Bro If you wanna tap strafe, use a bloody mouse and keyboard. Abusing configs with aim assist is a trashcan move.

Now all we need is a new anti cheat that prevents any outside modifications to the game. If you want to config your game do it only from in game options and bam 100% clean player base.

I heavily respect you for your last comment, that you are not giving up the game. We do not know if things will change and as an MnK player, I am curious to how this will effect my games. Even with the CFG's getting removed, still think aim assist is still broken af and I feel nothing will change in my lobbies. I can do the super gliding and tap strafing and still get one clipped by a level 20 player on roller with no CFG's. But I am curious to how this will play out. The only people this will really effect are streamers, pros, and top ranked players. 90% of controller players do not use CFG's at all, so nothing changed for them.

I’ve been playing MnK for a while. I’m a controller player, I just mess around on MnK. I’ve never fully committed to MnK because controller is just too easy in comparison. I love your videos, but I think this is a good thing, and I think aim assist is the most “broken” thing in the game. On Mouse and Key, something as simple as strafing and shooting at the same time is 10x more difficult than it is on controller. I think this is a good change, because tap strafing on controller was so easy that anybody could do it. It should require thought and input. Maybe they should provide the ability to tap strafe on controller, but it should require multiple separate inputs to do correctly. On MnK, you lose your entire mouse for a split second, and to recover and hit shots, takes lots of practice and raw skill. On controller, you’re just pressing a button. I think it’s a fair trade. Controller gets better aim up close, MnK have better movement. Someone like you who can aim without aim assist, I totally understand that you have pure mechanical skill and don’t crutch configs or AA. But think of all the truly awful players who can keep up because of AA and configs. Just not fair to everyone else who puts the time in.

Im a casual player but personally I rather have them remove aim assist instead of no tap strafing on roller. Wish the devs got rid of the bad cfg exploits instead of the good/fair one. But its understandable. Skill gap increased now.

you can very easily reload on doors and knocked teammates by making tap to interact/hold to reload IN THE CONTROLLER TAB

If you want the truth, here it is. Apex is about to launch the 120fps on console. The number of players has been dropping. So, instead of splitting the player base between console and PC they are going to make it all one lobby everyone plays together. Then Apex #'s look big again.

3:07 LOL you weren't even tap strafing there. You removed scroll from forward and rebound it to "W" then just bunny hopped. You need scroll on forward to tap strafe. Talk about not even understanding the mechanic. [e] it just hit me that you probably thought bunny hops were tap strafes because you probably abused neostrafes which are far different and extremely difficult to do consistently on MNK. A traditional tap strafe can only be once and then your player loses too much momentum to chain a second. You really do not understand the mechanic you were abusing it seems.

they didnt remove steam configs and stuff like that, they basically removed lurches when they detect a controller theres no way around it you still have your steam configs but tap strafes are basically multiple lurch imputs which are only possible on kbm. and like said when a controller is detected it will be disabled but just for 0.5 seconds (just long enough to not tap strafe) if anyone is looking for an explanation this is it. also when he said they removed the biggest advantage in the game movement its unfair, you guys literally have aim assist, and before you got to some guy like @movementless thats 0.1% of players yet all roller players have aim assist its different.
