Tho I could never figure out what he thought about Arya, with Sansa it was a bit of projection, she was a bit like he was as a kid, so he was trying to help her in his own misguided way, by bullying this idealism out of her. It might be a bit of conflict in him too, we never get the "ay i am looking after her" do we?

@@niropaxum958 I never stopped to think about that. Yeah about Sansa, he does see his past self in her i think, and i'm inclined to say, even though Sandor ended up comitting many heinous acts, he doesn't feel pleasure from others' suffering. In a way, he's not cruel. I think he initially was taking care of Arya as a extension of Sansa, but started to like her afterwards, since they were in the same situation, lost and hunted by all, looking for some safety and comfort.

I think at least a part of it is that she likes him. She still wanted to kill the mountain, and his men despite them being clearly far more horrific.

Maybe some real wolves will find you, Arya thought. Maybe they'll smell you when the sun goes down. Then he would learn what wolves did to dogs. "You shouldn't have hit me with an axe," she said. "You should have saved my mother." She turned her horse and rode away from him, and never looked back once.

The hound and Arya journey is so funny I'm the books. He gets robbed by the brotherhood without banners so he steals Arya from them. He carries her to the twins to sell her for money where they find the red wedding happening so he had to drag her away and keep watch so she doesn't try to go back. Then he intends to sell her to the vale or river run to get some cash and he decides to go to Riverland because it's closer only to find out that the castle is under siege. So he decides to sell her to the vale but a fight breaks out and he gets injured and all his wounds get infected and she just leaves him there under the tree. We can assume afterwards he crawled into the trident river intending on drowning himself but was saved by the holy dude who took him in and made the hound religious. Though this does not explain how his horse found him

Wait the part where the holy dude took him in and made him religious was in the early chapters for the 6th book right? Cos I remembered only 3rd party accounts of the Hound's death in Feast for Crows.

@@acyh4097 it's in a brienne chapter, she goes to the holy man and he began telling her about all the things that enters the trident River eventually finds there way to where he is at, even some of rhagars ruby. Then brienne saw the hounds horse though she doesn't know that it belongs to the hound and wonders why a holy man has a war horse so big and muscled, then she saw a huge gravedigger that the holy man said was new to his service though brienne never saw his face. We never found out 100% that it's the hound, but the fact that the hounds horse is there and the last place where the hound was seen is at the trident along with the new grave digger being so big. We can guess that it's the hound. I want to say he walked with a limp also buy I'm not sure been years since I read the books

@@AniSwiftTVRecapsDid he even comment on the gravedigger, I only remember Brienne seeing him and a brief description of the man, which instantly anyone would assume was the Hound when taking in to account the story of how he buried “The Hound” and his horse being there,though even that has to be gleaned through the description of the horse.

@Ryan_Carder to be fair they had the same personality for a little bit. People with the same minds understand each other. Like they would never say they like each other even tough arya despices the hound too. But in the end when death is near the hound grabs arya by the back of the head. That says it all. It reminds me of me and my father. We never say we love each other but all the deeds show we actually do.

@@Ryan_CarderJust like the moment where Arya is trying to decide whether to kill the Hound or leave him to die…their connection is complicated…of course she hates him…but she grows to understand him…learns from him…even begins to act like him after a while (in the show she drinks ale like him afterwards)….she has some pity and some hate for him…

@user-qp4vt4gc4t I think you forget this is not set in a time period similar to anything past the 19th century, killing is just buisness, its them or you, especially when the one ordering the death is the crown prince of the kingdom. Morality is a luxury few could afford in this time setting.

However that did not stop the creepy artists to draw a man in his late 20s to kiss a 13 year old girl who is held hostage. It is referred to as the unkiss and grrm confirmed that sansa is a very unreliable narrator, she is still one of my favs though.

He always wore black armour, but he had a white cloak on when he was a kingsguard. In that scene, he does in fact wear a white cloak; if you look closely, you can see it on his back.

They have a much less jovial relationship in the books. It's a change in the show that I kind of enjoyed despite not be 1 to 1 with the books. My only issue is that in the show when they reach this point, it feels uncharacteristically cold of this version of Arya to not kill him. She has yet to become the cold assassin yet and that part just didn't work for me. Their scenes were still fun to watch

Yes it was odd. Arya would rather have stayed with the Hound than go with Brienne, so the Hound fights Brienne to back up her choice (and yes, because he wants to ransom Arya). The hound lays dying because he fought to protect Arya, he asks for mercy and she won’t grant it. It didn’t work for the story they’d built. I guess they wanted to keep the Hound alive as so many characters died at the end of that season. But you still need to make it work for the story. Tho compared to the story choices that come later, this is top notch h storytelling but then wouldn’t grant him mercy after

Whether he's the gravedigger now or died, doesn't really matter. As his legacy lives on in the form of his helmet, first used by Rorge from the Brave Companions to commit atrocities, then taken by Lem Lemoncloak who is working under Lady Stoneheart.

powerful inflection points in both characters. This is Arya’s first time actually *thinking* before killing someone instead of just reacting. She is beginning to become a true Faceless Man, who only kill for logical purposes, viewing personal “revenge,” per se, as beneath themselves. Getting revenge means there is still too much Ego within you. Arya is beginning to see Death as merely a tool rather than an obsession. In a way, the Hound realizes the exact same thing, and that’s why he becomes a gravedigger instead of a warrior.

Part of the scene was the complex mix of emotions Arya has. My personal belief is she mixed her hatred with her affection for the hound, even though she is in denial about any positive feelings she has for him. She was unable to kill him because of those repressed positive feelings, but she tells him and herself it was because she thought it would be crueler to leave him.

Probably been tainted by the show, but lowkey I think she knew if he survived he wouldn’t be so shitty. She didn’t necessarily WANT him to live, but she’s also attentive and perceptive. He never remembers Mycah’s name before this, he steady calls him “Butcher’s Boy.” Why did he call him Mycah now? Maybe on death’s door, he started to see the people he was killing as human again. Or saw himself as human again, as opposed to someone’s hunting dog.

@@user-qv4bp7vg6u That’s plausible, but I don’t think GRRM would’ve written Stranger to be an especially violent horse for no reason, I think it’s suppose to be a clue. Before Arya got with Gendry she went to the Hound first but the Hound wasn't interested and wanted to talk about other things. That's when she decided to hit up Gendry. What did Gendry do after the act, he got all clingy and started talking to her about starting a family and Arya had to break to him that that was a one night stand, that she thought she was going to die later and he was just available.

I prefer the show version. Where she didn’t kill him because she actually started to care for him. It’s a much better reason & gives some depth to their relationship, than, “she left him to die for revenge.” That’s just sucky storytelling, especially after what they went through together. Also, would’ve loved to see lord Arya & Tywin scenes. That was a pair I didn’t expect to love seeing together. Tywin’s kindness toward her and her snarky daughter attitude towards him was adorable.

@@richiekaylor5004 you're right . But Hound coming back now will make it a bit disappointing, as readers have pretty much mourned him . If he comes back, it has to be something badass or else it wouldn't have an impact.

The hound was just a beaten man. I always liked his character, he did the best he could have, he was never the monster his brother was, and his eyes thats why he was never good enough.
