I personally feel like Splatoon 3 gets a lot of hate due to the game being VERY competitive in comparison to the first two titles. S1 was new, and kinda whacky above all else with huge stages full of tons of jungle gym routes and designs. S2 still had some more gimmicky stages with more room to move around and overall still be different enough with tons of new changes and additions. S3 feels the most competitive, as the maps are very focused on getting players to meet up and fight. I can’t really play Splatoon 3 without locking in ya know? It doesn’t feel very casual friendly. Too fast paced for most, and it’s the 3rd game in the series that is different, but anyone whos been around since day 1 has much more experience than a S3 player. I feel it’s just harder to get into without fully committing yourself

Matchmaking is easily my biggest issue with S3. It feels as if matchmaking speed is the ONLY priority which puts really low level players in your lobby. Now you're forced to play twice as sweaty to keep balance. I see matches with players going 1 and 7 kd or worse every single time I play. While I think S2 got A LOT of things wrong, matchmaking felt better.
@JakoBpyroTech
@JakoBpyroTech 16 дней назад
Yeah, the matchmaking felt far better in S2. I want to say part of the problem is that, even in Series, the game focuses more on keeping smaller "team" groups together rather than the lobby as a whole. I remember having sessions in S2 where most of the players would be the same one match to the next, with some shuffling between the teams. And to be honest, I miss having that in Ranked (even if that's still kind of a thing in Turf, most of the Maps in S3 were not designed to be fun in Turf War.)

Splatoon really bears the burden of being one of the most fun video games of all time, while simultaneously having some of the worst online performance & input delay. If Splatoon 4 matched the fluidity of Splatoon 1, I imagine I wouldn't fall off as fast.

@kristopherhayes1957 18 дней назад
I don't think input lag is the biggest issue. Sure, it is a problem for certain weapons like hammer and umbrella, but I say the stages and kits are the problem. They limit play styles and cool moments. In splatoon 1, there were many kits that allowed for selfish plays, whereas the new games are team-oriented, and certain stages had too simplstic designs, which kinda sucks. Certain kits like squiffer with a splat bomb and kraken were a missed opportunity. Even stages like Hammerhead Bridge were destroyed when changing games.
@freshmaggot
@freshmaggot 19 дней назад
I disagree that input lag, specifically, is the catalyst behind splatoon 3 hate. I can see why someone in your skill bracket would see that as the issue but I just don’t see it as the core reason why people are overwhelmingly sour about s3. Now if you argued it was connectivity issues in general, sure I could see that. You’re right about the Fortnite thing though lol. Im glad this game isn’t monetized like that.
@harmless9336
@harmless9336 19 дней назад
Gotta agree with this. If people are used to imput lag being less then later it is more than it is a problem to them, but if people start with the slower delay they just naturally get used to that delay as if it was normal. Similar situation to fps, people with computers getting 100+ fps on games could see 30 fps or even 60 fps games as very choppy but to someone who has only played 30 its smooth.

Now we have more stuff of lesser quality. If in s3 all weapons had synergistic kits and we got playable maps, a lot people wouldn't complain. The brand new content that was added feels unpolished and random. Splatoon 3 polished a lot of s2's aspects while not polishing its new stuff. And they still don't know how to make playable maps.

What would bringing back all stages do? Like, the game has a lot of maps already. More content for the sake of it wouldn't make the game better or anything, imo. I understand 3rd kits hype, since a lot of people aren't satisfied with their main kits or want something different to play, but you don't really get to choose what map you'll play.

While input lag is definitely a factor, i think there are more reasons why people hate S3. S2 added Salmon & Clam Blitz, while S3 only added Tableturf. It just doesn't feel.... fresh. It feels old. Most of the gear was just returning gear from older games, less new main weapons than S2, no third kits, awful maps, worst online connection, kits & balancing of the trilogy, most specials aren't satisfying to use compared to older specials, stale & boring metas, and it was broken on release (remember the bug when your weapon didn't shoot anymore? sloashing machine projectile going through walls, stamp didn't function, brella shields didn't exist, Inkjet had defender-sided hitreg etc.) Now, why was S3 handled so poorly and should we blame the devs? I think we can blame the pandemic for all these issues, and the weird release timing. They should've kept working on the game and used it as a launch title for the next console instead of releasing it on the switch.
@Mikon595
@Mikon595 19 дней назад
I think the big reason was lack of new modes in Splat 3 compared to what 2 added. 2 added Clam Blitz, X Rank, and Salmon Run. 3 didn't really do that. What 3 did though was "Refinement" 3 had better movement options, made the ranked modes better with things like Rainmaker's checkpoints and fewer clams needed to make a Power Clam, the improved ranked point system which doesn't make a single loss hurt so much, Series/Open/X Rank meant there were three different rotations available so there's pretty much always something to do, and a reward system for Salmon Run (even if it was really grindy). 3 also had WAY better events with Big Run and Grand Festival
@TheNelman
@TheNelman 19 дней назад
The worst part is they added challenges, which would have been perhaps the most innovative way to add new modes of play to the game, but instead of a constant rotation of different challenges they did timed events. They could've done special challenges, but no.

The problem with modern Nintendo is they've been putting in less effort and still making money. The way I see it I doubt they'll be pushing for performance, they've seen how many units the switch sold despite releasing on underpowered and dated hardware. I really hope I'm wrong, but you have to remember, Nintendo puts enjoyment above performance and graphics. They never cared about the console war, they just do their own thing. I can safely say I won't be getting the next console if there are no significant hardware, network and performance increases that justify Splatoon 4 being a game that will feel good to play.

I only have 100 or so hours in splatoon 1 with another 2,000ish across the other two, but I just do not understand this input lag thing. I trust that it exists, but I’ve gone back to Splatoon 1 and I just cannot tell. My theory as to why this is is that I’m using a gamepad, which just feels clunky to move around, especially after using a pro controller for so long. If splatoon 1 was playable with a pro controller then I would absolutely reapproach the game and try to feel the difference. But honestly, I still to this day find myself in awe at how amazing splatoon 3 specifically feels to just play. I think the real reason there’s general sourness towards s3 is 1) some seemingly obvious avoidable design decisions like certain maps and kits, but more notably I think 2) the lack of 3rd kits. Damn near everyone had some sort of expectation or at the very least hope that we’d get literally any 3rd kits, only for there to be none. I believe that if we got the same amount of 3rd kits as we did in previous games that people would not be nearly as sour towards the game, because then the insane amount of content that s3 DID get would be way more obvious

Tbh the first game wasn't all that great either in terms of performance. The reason they switched to a higher tickrate and, probably, high latency is so they could keep the game running at 60fps as much as possible during gameplay. Idk if anyone else notices this but splatoon 1 has framrate issues when a lot of things are thrown out at a time. This issue is felt regardless of your skill level and is arguably worse than the tickrate change or latency change. It is still a fault of the hardware, if the wiiu can barely handle a consistent 60fps with low tickrates and latency, then the switch sure as hell cant. Hoping, but not holding out, for the next console to be better, but it doesn't really have to be for mario, zelda, pikmin and metroid and animal crossing. So.. it probably wont be that much better than the switch

@bluetoad6848

I believe there are two issues. 1. The quality of the updates/content. 2. The lack of vision and consistency. Splat 1 started out so bad. But the updates progressively got better and better until the latter half of the game's life where almost every newly added content, rather it be maps, kits, or balance changes were consistent smash hits. Splat 2 and 3 updates were all over the place in terms of quality, and didn't really improve over the game's life. 2 had a terrible start, created a decent mid point where comps were diverse, before finally deciding that shooters should be the only viable weapon class. 3 on the other hand barely made any changes nor improvements. Took them way too long to fix things, like brella's barely functioning shields. And a lot of the new content were highly questionable. 3 was mainly just bad weapon kits and bad maps simulator.

I haven't played Splatoon 3 in, like, a year, and honestly idk, I feel like the game was fine. I've always expected a kind of negative bias to form towards the end of the game, so I'm not so very surprised. Splatoon game gets hyped up for its new features, people get bored by updates and balance changes, it falls out of favor, updates end. Ultimately it probably comes down to the way they treated casual and competitive players.

Reducing the input lag would make the game feel better to play, and they did a great job at improving the input lag in the 9.0 update. But I feel like we shouldn't forget that the quality of the stages was something that severely hindered the multiplayer experience for a majority of S3's lifespan. Sure it's better now, but you can't blame people disliking the game when the dev team waited until the last major content update to try to fix most of the stages.

seems the gamepad had 16ms input lag, while the procon has 11.7ms? 19.4ms when wired, based on some vid by Rocket Science a frame is 16.67ms fwiw! i sorta think its an issue with how the game is built itself and them not wanting to gatekeep players with worse conditions Also my view's that the game is just too risky for most weapons now which hinders enjoyment; the power level is alienating and makes only openly accessible maps that let you adjust on the fly like Barnacle Clams feel good; moving objectives are hellish with the AoE options in this game and zones is a slog for half the players (not even counting sharking defenders); as a bonus they were already neutralized at 40% in S1 which is easily forgotten If you only play good clams maps with friends, the game actually feels the best it's ever been; outside that it gets particularly miserable however

"seems the gamepad had 16ms input lag, while the procon has 11.7ms?" The Switch Pro Controller Result is based on how it connects to the PC and not the Switch. The controller isn't 100% the issue but the Switch itself as shown for a video by Allen P the approximate latency for Switch Pro controller is roughly 90ms connecting to the pro controller where the Wii U gamepad was 50ms. (Not perfect but 1000% times better.)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: we don't need third kits like everyone says. Not only do we have quite a lot of content already in Splatoon 3, but third kits wouldn't actually fix anything. Nothing says the kits that we would get would be competitively viable. Adding more kits doesn't change the fact that the kit system itself is inherently flawed and badly designed. What we need is S4 to have custom kits. That's my main problem with S3 (personally). Honestly, most of the other problems I see people have with the game are either blown way out of proportion (amount of content), not really significant enough for me to care (minor lore inaccuracies in story mode), or simply people wishing they had more. I'm not saying having more stuff wouldn't be cool, but we already got quite a lot as is, and I enjoy most of the stuff we got. I wish people would enjoy S3 for what it is, rather than what it isn't. TL;DR: S3 good game, custom kits for S4 please

Wdym by custom kits? Wouldn't that be horribly broken?
@gloomy9900
@gloomy9900 18 дней назад
@@bl1ndbat502It would absolutely be broken for a good while. Burst Slosher would be back, this time with (hopefully) no damage up and a better special. The best specials could be put on the best weapons with the best subs and they can all actually synergize. But with the data gathered from the broken mess that was created, the devs would (hopefully) start balancing the game around the new system. Now cool weapons that lucked into partially or fully bad kits in 3 (ex: Jet Squelcher, Dread Wringer, Dapples, Tri-Stringer, etc.) don't have to pray to Nogami for a kit that lets them play to their strengths in an effective way. I can just have my Burst Bomb + aggressive special Jet Squelcher instead of hoping they add it but being ready to bust out the Wii U or Cemu so I can still experience it when they don't. A more supportive Jet player can just have a good support kit. I remember seeing a tweet from flc a while back-I think it was during Crab meta-that talked about how so many weapons were getting such dysfunctional kits that the few weapons that got functional kits (VSplash, VMachine) seemed OP by comparison. Custom kits would make it so that this problem wouldn't even exist in the first place, albeit by creating a solvable balance crisis. In my opinion, the freedom of playstyle with any weapon would be well worth the (hopefully temporary; you never know with the Splatoon devs) balance issues. I just realized that I never even mentioned how the 19 specials in S3 feel like too many for a game with 1 fewer kit than S2 (after removing reskins and scopes; I'm pretty sure I did the math right) but wouldn't with custom kits, but it's 3 am and I'm too tired to write another full paragraph lol

Yeah the Input lag affecting game feel is definitely a worthwhile point. Poor netcode is just as much a problem when DC's happen so frequently - even moreso in S3 than in S2, which shouldn't be a thing but absolutely is. But also I blame the matchmaking. It is egregious how many knockouts/curbstomps happen at low/mid-level play. Again it wasn't this bad in S2. I ask you is it a coincidence that S3's also the first game to hide each players Levels and Rank from other players? Absolutely not! Not only that, but weapon compositions leading to extremely lopsided matches is more prevalent than ever. Oh, and thanks to that update adding visible win streaks, players have the pleasure of facing players with 5+ or even 10+ win streaks while they and their teammates combined have 2 at best. Even with excellent game feel, people can only stomach constant beatdowns and feeling like the game's actively fighting against them for so long.

@@OtherSplatoonDUDE Oh no you're right, we got a TON of content in this game I'm not gonna deny that. But have you ever considered quality over quantity? let me explain. -Story mode was hype but lets be real deep cut was rushed and had little to no depth put into them (unless you feel like reading extras which is a major flaw since no one reads those understandably) but everything other than that was fire. -weapons are alright not much to say there. -24 maps would of been a big one if the majority of them didn't range from just okay to borderline unplayable, we only have a handful of maps that are actually good and a large portion of them are plagued by e-liters which greatly reduce the fun and challenge of the game when the stages favor said game play style with little for other classes to do until they get their specials, which you may just get sniped half way across the map anyway. They 'attempted' to fix the issues by revamping the maps, except those revamps were hardly anything and seemed like they just put random crud around the map hoping it would work (it didn't). - a large majority of the fandom doesn't care about table turf and for that to be introduced as a 'new mode' for the game at the start was embarrassing, the cards themselves are cool but nothing is being done with them either so... -Lockers are probably one of the biggest mistakes to put focus on in this game, they were relevant for the first 2-3 months of the game and then died out they should not have focused a whole section to them. -have zero complains for the bosses asides from garbage rewards that hardly give you anything, bosses are actually hype. -3 ranked playlist is cool until you realize you have to unlock the third one by reaching rank X, making the grind just to have a third rotation terrible and draws people away from playing as much as they could if we were just given 3 from the start (mind you the rotation system is still a terrible idea since if none of the game modes you want to play are on, or the maps you can tolerate, sorry you just aren't playing.) Challenge modes would be cook if we could actually play them, doubling the times is putting a band aid on a bullet hole. -Tricolor was good on paper, bad on execution. maps favor the defenders+ only 2 maps were new everything else was just multiplayer maps poorly rehashed to fit splatfest which don't get me wrong its the norm for these games but that's still bad. -Have zero complaints on big run that was done perfectly. -1000's of different ways for side order is funny until you play and get bored of it in your 3rd run cuz it feels like a demo. Story for it is pretty tame and you can tell is rushed/ not put much thought into it. I don't expect nor really care for super in depth stories but you can tell its dumbed down pretty hard to what it could be and that sucks, the fact that you can finish a level in under 20 seconds to one minute sometimes is embarrassing and makes for very unrewarding gameplay/ the feeling of repetitiveness. I've purposely picked rigorous levels and still get trough them with ease even without most of the chips, there's only a handful of chips that actually matter or are worth getting unless you really want to squeeze out everything there is, the bosses are extremely easy and get stale fast, not to mention while i understand the use of concept art gaslighting your audience into believing that it'd be a part of the game and featuring it in the trailer when almost none of it was is still something i can't wrap my head around. Oh and lets not forget you have to play all the way up 13 or so times to get the full "story" which is gate-kept behind a literal petty child they call a boss to make artificial gameplay so you keep playing to figure out the lore. The setting is sick though I'll give it that + the glitched out ink looks nice. -they nailed it out of the park with quality of life improvements, which I'm thoroughly impressed by. I agree, we have a LOT of content here, but a lot of it just does not hit. I'm only complaining because i want this game to be better, but it just refuses to in some areas.

In my opinion, I’d rather have an ounce of gold than a pound of plastic. I’m not even considering the glaring omission of a new ranked mode, and how I absolutely hate the ranking system of 3. Even though there’s about the same amount of content in 3 as there was in 2-even more in some cases from what I’ve gathered-I’m just really not a fan of most of the stuff they did add in 3, especially when compared to what was added or even left behind in 2. I really don’t like the maps in 3, for example. 2’s maps had great variety and were very large-the vast majority of 3’s maps are garbage by comparison. The infamous “Tetris-block” design was an exception in 2 (walleye, arowana, port, for example)-in 3 it’s the rule. The kit variety-though there are the same amount of unique kits in 2 and 3-just don’t feel as fun to play in 3. I’ve even dropped a few mains cuz they’re not fun to play in 3. Sometimes I’ll go back to 2 just to remember the good ol’ days… I suppose that’s what Dude’s doing in this video lol. Yeah 3 is much laggier and much more prone to disconnections, especially since the 9.0.0 update came out, but I don’t generally consider that a reason I dislike 3 so much more than 2. 2 was just so much more fun to play and rank up in to me. Maybe that’s just cuz it was my first one, but I feel like after 1000 hours of 3 I’d determine whether I like it better than 2 or not lol.

Crazy how the entire spoiled and ungrateful mindset of many Nintendo fans gets summarized in a single chat comment at the beginning of the video

I'm not sure how you've seen it that way as the title, thumbnail is in direct relation to the discussion of the videos contents? But all good though have a good one.

Hi Dude i ve a question about that input lag, There is some different feeling when you play on TV and after playing on the Nintendo Switch screen? I say that because when i play only the Switch screen on table it feel so smooth than my TV screen (framerate drop so bad until i have good connexion, but, on the Switch screen that doesn t happen)
